Deb Stresing - Germantown Community Scholarship Fund Home
Welcome Up, Up, and Away! “When the theme for this year’s Dinner & Auction was presented for consideration, it conjured up visions of small children fascinated with balloons, growing into young adults, now making their own life choices and soaring into their futures where the sky is the limit.” .....Deb Stresing Dear Friends of Germantown Community Scholarship Fund, On behalf of the GCSF Board of Directors, thank you for attending the 29th Annual Dinner & Auction presented by the Germantown Community Scholarship Fund (GCSF) and the 2014 Premier Corporate Sponsor, First Bank Financial Centre (FBFC). Once First Bank Financial Centre opened its doors to Germantown in 2002, they became a committed financial supporter of Germantown Community Scholarship Fund. “Community” is the cornerstone of their business philosophy. FBFC believes when they help the community grow and prosper, everyone benefits. Cheri Schadeberg, FBFC Branch Manager, has attended the Dinner & Auction for many years. Recently she has enjoyed creating a FBFC Calendar Raffle basket. In 2011, FBFC launched the First Bank Financial Centre Scholarship administered by GCSF. Their ongoing relationship with our organization, the Germantown community and our youth is remarkable! I am humbled by the many community businesses and individuals who support the GCSF. WaterStone Bank, Gehl Foods, Inc., Malkin’s Carpets and Daub Orthodontics have returned to help kick-off tonight’s fundraising efforts with additional sponsorship contributions. The twelve calendar raffle sponsors have gone above and beyond to provide you with an opportunity to win a fabulous Calendar Raffle basket. A genuine ‘thank you’ is extended every donor and/or attendee! YOU truly make a difference in the success of Dinner & Auction! Every high school graduate who has been given the opportunity to earn a scholarship through the GCSF, is appreciative of your generosity. Thank you for setting aside an evening to make a difference for the graduates of Germantown High School who have chosen a path towards higher education at a College, University or Vocation/ Technical school. We hope you enjoy this fun-filled evening of fundraising! With Gratitude, Deb Stresing Deb Stresing, President GCSF Board of Directors A Note to Our Guests The success of our Annual Dinner & Auction has been made possible by the tremendous generosity of our sponsors, donors, and auction attendees. When possible, we ask that you thank our business donors by patronizing their establishments. While you’re there, please mention that you appreciate their contributions to GCSF and the Germantown community. 1 Table Of Contents 1 Auction Schedule 2“Building Toward a Million” Endowment Campaign Challenge & Matching Corporate Gifts 3 Thank You! Tonight, we hope to raise $10,000 toward our ongoing goal. A contribution to GCSF’s Endowment Campaign is an investment in the future of Germantown youth. Help us continue on our journey toward building a million dollar endowment fund with tonight’s special opportunity to donate throughout the Verbal Auction. During the performance by the GHS Dixieland Jazz Band, complete the Endowment Pledge Card found in the basket on your table. Raise your Pledge Card to alert a GCSF Board Member to collect your pledge. Endowment Fund contributions will be charged to your Express Checkout invoice or can be paid by a check payable to: Germantown Community Scholarship Fund. Thanks to the generosity of local organizations, community and corporate friends, our Endowment Fund balance is approximately $835,000. Since 1981, GCSF has awarded nearly 2.1 million dollars in scholarships to 2,097 Germantown area students pursuing their education at a college, university or vocational/ technical school. As a non-profit organization, the GCSF relies on charitable contributions to fulfill its mission. Obtain a Matching Gift from your employer! Many corporations will match the gifts made to a qualified non-profit organization by their employees and retirees. Companies usually match the tax-deductible portion of an employee’s gift, which means that your contributions to the Germantown Community Scholarship Fund could qualify. Stop in at your employer’s Human Resources department for further information. Your completed Matching Gift Form can be mailed to: Germantown Community Scholarship Fund, Inc. Fun facts about our verbal auctioneer and co-Mistress of Ceremonies..... Cassie Hanson, a Germantown High School English teacher and Wisconsin licensed auctioneer will facilitate the 2014 Live Auction during the GCSF Annual Dinner & Auction. Cassie has taught English at Germantown High School since 2007. She also runs the GHS Key Club, an organization dedicated to helping students volunteer in the community. She and her husband live in Jackson, WI with their two children. Cassie grew up in Cedarburg, WI and graduated from Marquette University. In addition to teaching she works part-time doing benefit auctions in the area. The GCSF is honored to have a leader and local teacher from GHS to assist with the 2014 Dinner & Auction festivities! As a teacher in the district, I’m looking forward to helping fund-raise to provide countless scholarships to very qualified Germantown Students. Among the many exciting highlights of the Germantown Community Scholarship Fund’s Annual Dinner & Auction is the return of co-Mistress of Ceremonies, Jodi Becker. She is a well-respected News Anchor for Wisconsin’s Morning News on Newsradio 620 WTMJ, a proud GHS Warhawk Alumna (1997) and past recipient of two GCSF scholarships! Following graduation, Jodi obtained her undergraduate degree from UW-Eau Claire. Her professional journey has taken her from Eau Claire, back to Milwaukee working for WISN, then off to Los Angeles and in recent years, a return home to Milwaukee to work with the 9 Newsradio 620 WTMJ team. “It is my greatest honor to be there auction night to give back to the community that gave me so much.” Calendar Raffle Calendar Raffle Winners announced after Verbal Auction Raffle tickets may be purchased using cash or by charging to your Bidder Number. Since the organization’s inception in 1981, nearly 2.1 million dollars have been awarded in scholarships. Annually we receive over 100 applications from graduating seniors throughout the Germantown area. We use a computer based application process that provides the following: • Better method for tracking the completion of applications • Accuracy of student reported information • Simplification of the teacher recommendation process • Efficient method for recording student application data for use in scoring and award notification. Anyone receiving a full-tuition, room and board scholarship is not eligible to receive a scholarship from the Germantown Community Scholarship Fund, Inc., including and without limitation, any of the following: • Chick Evans Scholarship • College or University Academic Scholarship • College or University Athletics Scholarship (NCAA or NAIA based) • U.S. Military Academies (Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy) Questions may be directed to Mr. Perry Benz in the Germantown High School Counseling Office or you may call him at (262) 502-7254. March 14 25 Germantown Community Scholarship Fund History: 1981–2014 The Germantown Community Scholarship Fund, Inc. is a charitable organization under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code and was formed in 1981 to help local students continue their education at a college, university, or vocational / technical school. The Germantown Rotary Club donated $10,000 to the trust fund. The first dinner auction was held in 1986. A $200,000 donation in 1990 from the Germantown Volunteer Fire Company greatly increased the trust fund. The organization has awarded nearly $2.1 million in scholarships to 2,097 students. Scholarships are funded with donations from businesses, service organizations and individuals, and from proceeds of our Dinner Auctions and Endowment Fund. The GCSF board has been involved in many fund raisers through the years. Our most successful event is the Dinner & Auction which is held annually on the first Thursday in February. The culmination of the organization’s efforts is the presentation of scholarships at the Senior Scholarship Awards Night held in May at Germantown High School. Application forms are made available on the GCSF website (www.germantownscholarship.org) in February and must be completed in March.
