Thank you for the work you do to make our organization great. You help us provide amazing services to our clients. Without your commitment, creativity, and high standards, we would not be the company we are. I am very grateful for your efforts. I wish you a Thanksgiving filled with abundance and bright moments. Thanks to you, we were able to expand our reach to outlying counties and provide support to individuals in need. I’m especially appreciative that you continued to pull together to help make the changes needed to increase our activities, expand our services, and participate in charity events, no matter what challenges came our way. So thank you again for everything you do. I appreciate your hard work and dedication, and I wish each of you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving. Do It Yourself TURKEY MUFFINS How Do You Define “Beauty” Last week one of Kaleidoscope’s social groups met at Linvilla Orchards for a hayride and subsequent campfire to enjoy the season. Because we have such a large group, we were able to secure our own wagon. We were supposed to leave the docking station promptly at 6:15pm, but we ended up departing at 6:40pm, just in time to watch a magnificent sunset as the wagon bumped through the groves, consumers and providers laughing and marveling at the “beauty” of it all. One of the beautiful things about “our” group is that people come from all over Philadelphia, and its surrounding suburbs to be together on Thursday nights; operative word being "our" because there are so many beautiful and abundantly special things about our group - about the social aspects of Kaleidoscope as a whole. An example of “beauty” demonstrated within our group was during the wagon ride. Picture this: the air is crisp and just warm enough for a slight jacket, the sky is clear, dusk is settling, a crescent moon becomes visible as the sun slowly begins to set, and while sitting on the hay in the back of a farm truck, the Kaleidoscope group (of plus 30) puts their hands out to welcome and assist our physically handicapped friend to climb aboard, wheelchair and all. The moment was, for lack of a better word, magical. Lucky for us, as an agency that services individuals with disabilities, we see this aspect of beauty on a daily basis. However, the public is beginning to see it as well. For example, Target, one of the largest department stores in the US, recently showcased a picture of a handicapped girl on their cover page to promote Halloween costumes. Similarly, Nordstrom, a high-level department store added diversity to a sale catalog by featuring a physically handicapped woman to sell boots. At Kaleidoscope, we would call this a beautiful thing. “Like” our page on Facebook to stay abreast of KFS updates and happenings.
