Sites and Climate
Fred Loimer
The interplay of soil and climate
form the basic character of the
wines from the Thermenregion.
The influence of the Pannonian climate from Hungary to the east
brings hot, dry days to the area.
It is mainly the heavy loamy soils
with chalky gravel mixed in that
make these vineyards so special.
And the wind from the Anninger, a
small mountain (750 m) in the Vienna Woods (Wienerwald), which
helps bring the healthy grapes their
high sugar concentration.
Fred Loimer took over the vineyards
of the Schellmann wine estate and
cares for them in the spirit of
Gottfried Schellmann. For the time
being, 9 hectares are cultivated.
Fred Loimer is responsible for vinification, creating wines that are completely dry, complex and elegant,
full of rich aromas, and are intense
without weightiness while embedded
with refreshing acidity.
Vinification
The old Mischsatz, a traditional cuvee blend, requires the varieties
Zierfandler, Rotgipfler, Muskateller,
Traminer and Riesling. These grapes
see a short pre-fermentation maceration before pressing to intensify
their beautiful aromas. A controlled
fermentation then follows in both
stainless steel and big wooden barrels in which the wine is subsequently matured for up to 8 months.
Tasting Notes
This 2009 brings plenty of fruit and
structure into the glass. At the same
time, it is bright and vibrant. Sophisticated drinking pleasure.

2009 - the Law of Nines Series
1959,1969 and 1979 made great
white wines, and ´99 is convincing
us more and more. And the 2009?
Spring was wet: it was the wettest
March on record. April was dry and
warm; May was much too cool and
rainy.
Early flowering - early harvest:
"100 days from flowering to harvest"
is an old farmer´s saying. And flowering here began already in May.
Cool weather during the flowering,
however, yielded loose clusters of
grapes. Summer: "For the thriving
of wine and grain – in June, there
must be rain." "Much too wet and
considerably too
warm”, meteorologists noted dryly.
Compensation in the Fall with
ripeness and fruit: More rain came
in mid-September, but the Indian
Summer concentrated the juice in
the berries in a natural way. An
amount that´s small - but oh so
fine: Wines with structure and character, fruit and finesse, ripeness
and piquancy – justify admission to
the series of legendary 9er vintages.
