A Message from the Headmaster
GARY WHITWELL
To Our TST Families and Friends:
Trinity School of Texas graduates are prepared to
take advantage of the opportunities that lie
before them. They have been nurtured and groomed to succeed in college
and beyond, and they are ready to pass through the doors that have been
opened for them by their experiences here. These experiences are made
possible by a unique combination of students, teachers, staff, parents,
grandparents, alumni, friends, Trinity Episcopal Church members, and all who
make up the TST community.
Trinity School of Texas is a premier college preparatory school. Dr. Seema
Rasheed, this year’s TST graduation speaker, spoke pointedly of how well
prepared she was for higher education when she left TST. Alumni speaking to
our Upper School students at Home for the Holidays events voice the same
thing. Time and time again our graduates speak of how they have been able
to meet all higher learning challenges set before them. There is more to their
readiness than just academic prowess. TST students develop the selfconfidence to try hard and flourish in unfamiliar situations. They have the
resilience to persevere and sustain their effort. They rely on the integrity
they have developed during their years at TST to make right decisions, and
they have the compassion and sense of responsibility to God, their families,
and their community to use their talents to help others.
The TST advantage is not an accident. It is the result of the generous and
ongoing contributions of our many patrons and supporters. This support
comes in the forms of time, talent, and financial gifts. Our many volunteers
work tirelessly to support our students and teachers and to help them take
their learning beyond the limits of the classroom. Gifts to the Trinity
Advantage Fund and Spring Gala, improvement projects led by the Parent
Teacher Council, and donations to meet specific needs help provide and
maintain the facilities and programs required for teaching and learning.
The prayers and support from Trinity Episcopal Church, and other churches
from which our families come, see to the spiritual well-being of our students
and staff. Our grounding in the Episcopal faith, guided by scripture, tradition,
and reason, provides our students a firm Christian foundation from which to
venture into the world. 2013-2014 was a good year for our students. With

Spirituality
and Service
A distinguishing characteristic of Trinity School of
Texas is that we seek to integrate religious and
spiritual formation into the overall curriculum and
life of the school community.
By weaving these principles into the very fabric of
the school's overall life, Trinity School of Texas
ensures that its mission is built upon the sure
foundation of a Christian love that guides and
challenges all who attend our school to build lives
of genuine meaning, purpose, and service in the
world they will inherit.
A special focus that TST provides is for students
to participate in service projects that help others.
1 Peter 4:10 "As each has received a gift, use it
to serve one another, as good stewards of God's
varied grace."
These important lessons are
taught in weekly chapel lessons and woven
throughout daily life at TST.

Patsy B. Hollandsworth Commons Dedication
Trinity School of Texas dedicated the Commons building to the Patsy B. Hollandsworth Family
Foundation for their contributions over the years. Patsy and her husband Earl were both strong
believers in the importance of education and preparing students for college and beyond. Earl, a
driven young boy who dropped out of school in the 8th grade to go make a living, realized that despite
his success after years of hard work, if he would have had a solid education, things would have been
much easier in life for him and his family. Later in life, Earl along with his wife Patsy decided that they
wanted to provide others with an opportunity that they never had themselves. Through supporting
schools of excellence like Trinity School of Texas, that is exactly what they have done!
Patsy B. Hollandsworth and the Hollandsworth Family Foundation have donated over $300,000 in the
past 7 years alone to Trinity School of Texas. The Foundation is the largest annual donor to Trinity’s
Advantage Fund, donating approximately $25,000 to $30,000 each year remaining true to their
commitment to providing children with a strong education from the beginning. In addition to the
school’s Advantage Fund, the foundation has also donated funds for student scholarships and
teacher benefits, as well as new technology, desks for children and cooking equipment for the
cafeteria.
The dedication was held on April 25th in the Trinity School of Texas Courtyard. The event included the

Spending Policy
The School has a policy of appropriating up to 5% of the previous twelve quarters rolling average of the endowment's total
asset value, with the understanding that this spending rate plus inflation will not normally exceed total return from
investment. However, it is understood that this total return basis for calculating spending is sanctioned by the Uniform
Management of Institutional Funds Act (UMIFA) under which guidelines the School is permitted to spend an amount in
excess of the current yield (interest and dividends earned), including realized or unrealized appreciation. The last five year
spending pol % has been: 2005: 2%; 2006: 2.6%; 2007: 4.5%; 2008: 4.5%; 2009: 0%; 2010: 4.5% 2011: 5.0% 2012: 4.5%
2013: 4.5%

Opportunities to Give
TST ADVANTAGE FUND
HONOR/MEMORIAL
The Trinity School of Texas Advantage Fund serves to
build and sustain the Trinity Advantage: faith based
mission, character development, excellent academics,
faculty and staff professional development, smaller class
size, safe and nurturing environment, strong athletics,
vibrant visual and performing arts, among other
aspirations. The Trinity School of Texas Advantage
Fund goes above and beyond the opportunities offered
by the operational budget to offer our children a
continually enhanced educational experience.
We
encourage 100% of Board, Parents, Faculty & Staff, &
Alumni to give to this vital fund annually. This fund is a
TOP priority and every gift matters!
Gifts made in honor or in memory of a loved one are
designated for endowment unless otherwise specified.
This is a wonderful way to remember a loved one or
celebrate a special occasion in someone’s life such as
Mother’s Day, B-day, Anniversary, Wedding, or Teacher
Appreciation and benefit the school at the same time.
MAJOR GIFTS
Scholarships help Trinity School of Texas’ commitment
to meet the full financial need of all students and ensure
a diverse student body. Gifts may be given to provide
assistance for current students within the operating
budget or to provide future scholarship monies in the
scholarship fund. Named endowed scholarships also are
a meaningful way to leave a legacy, remember a loved
one, or honor a favorite teacher.
The future of TST depends on generous support by
friends, family, and alumni. Facility upgrades, expanded
curricular offerings, and other special projects are not
possible without the support of significant donations.
Major gifts allow the school to promote excellence and to
attract and retain the most capable and brightest
students and faculty.
CAPITAL CAMPAIGNS
STOCKS OR SECURITIES
A gift of appreciated stock can offer a two-fold benefit:
you may avoid a tax on the capital gain, in addition to
qualifying for an income tax deduction for the full market
value of the stock at the time of the gift.
SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS
MATCHING GIFTS
GIFTS TO ENDOWMENT
Many companies will match or multiply gifts made by
employees and retirees to support education at the
primary level. This is a simple way to double and
sometimes even triple your gift to Trinity School of
Texas. Contact your employer or human resource office
to see if they will match all or part of your contribution
and let us know that a matching gift is coming.
Trinity’s endowment is a collection of various restricted
and unrestricted endowment and scholarship funds.
While endowments are established through sizable initial
gifts, they may also grow through smaller ongoing gifts.
Endowment is an independent school’s savings account
and provides a reliable source of income in perpetuity.
Items and services may be donated to the school, which
provide operational savings and meet the needs of the
school. The donor, through appraisal or record of
purchase, determines the value of the gift.
Capital Campaigns are conducted to provide significant
funds
for
growth
such
as
endowment,
construction/renovation,
or
extensive
equipment
purchases. Contributions are generally pledged over
three to five years.
GIFTS IN KIND
DEFERRED GIVING
TST greatly encourages and appreciates future gifts made
through one’s estate. You may consider giving through
deferred gifts such as life insurance, bequests, or charitable
trusts. Such gifts can offer tax benefits during the donor’s
lifetime and/or reduce estate and inheritance taxes. In addition,
individuals who provide for Trinity School of Texas in their
estate plans will be recognized as members of the Trinity
School of Texas Legacy Society. If you are interested in
learning more about gift planning, we are happy to help you
determine how and when to make a gift and with what assets.
Your gifts will continue the tradition of
generosity. It will enable our legacy of
excellence to continue for current and future
students of TST.
