Welcome back for term 2. Whilst I have noticed a number of
fresh casts on arms (as children necessarily find ways to test
their physical boundaries), it was great to see everyone return
in generally good health and spirit.
The Sheepwash Classic:
At the end of the holidays we held the annual Barwon Coast
Sheepwash Classic fun run and we couldn’t be happier with
the result on many levels. The result was certainly testament to
the remarkable work of our Fund raising coordinator Sarah
Jackson and her dedicated committee, the BHPS staff and our
school community volunteer workforce. (The complete list is
included in this newsletter)I would also like to thank our
major sponsors, Barwon Coast and Bellarine Property for
their support and the many local traders who donated prizes.
We are still finalising the financial outcome of the event and a
final result will be presented at the next school council
meeting. Well done to all our place getters, runners and
walkers. It was great to see so many of our local residents and
students participating in the run.
Pupil Free Day
Can I once again remind parents to please ensure you have
added the PUPIL FREE DAY on the 9th May to your
calendars? The staff will be participating in Professional
Learning with our Writing Coach, Julie Bennett.
We also have another pupil free in the last week of the term
for reporting to parents – Wednesday 25th June
Student Fund Raising for Charities and Social
Services
Each year the JSC survey all our students to determine the 2
social services we as a school will support with our end of term
out of uniform day’s. This year it has been decided by our
students that we will support the guide dogs and the Royal
Children’s hospital. We are often inundated every year with
requests to support many worth while charities, and we feel
this is the fairest way of contributing.
I have also been inundated by selfless children wanting to raise
money to support an organisation they have identified. Whilst
Barwon Heads Primary School promotes integrity, life-long learning and the attainment of excellence.
I couldn’t be more pleased to know, but not surprised, that we have so many children who are wanting to give
for the benefit of others. I would however suggest and encourage parents to please contact the relevant agency
with their child first to find out how best to support that organisation. In most cases they will be able to make
suggestions on how support can be offered. I know that in some cases families have already done this and the
organisation is then well aware of what is being collected on their behalf and how that is being done.
Movie Night
Thank you to the many people who have provided such positive feedback on our movie night. There has
been an overwhelming request to make it an annual event. It was such a visual sense of community connection
on the night which was our pure and single objective. Our aim was to simply cover costs and it was not part of
our fund raising agenda.
Thank you to the staff, students, parents and all others within our school community who helped to
make it another wonderful week and term at Barwon Heads PS. Thank you to all those who
supported the 2014 Sheepwash Classic Fun Run.
