Vintage Car Club donates to
Fallbrook Youth Baseball
On Saturday afternoon, March 29th at St. Peter's
Church Hall Cub Scout Troop 738 held it's annual Pinewood Derby.
On our arrival at the Hall we were both surprised and
gratified to find signs on the wall and hanging from the
stage declaring this the Cub Pack 738 Monty Voigt Memorial Pinewood Derby. Several members of the Fallbrook
Vintage Car Club were there to assist in running the event.
Glen and Louise Patterson weighed the cars for competition, Doug and Sharon Allen numbered them, Molly and
Tom Conley helped with the sign-in process, and Bill
Muno , Joyce VanVoorst and Joan Voigt were judges.
Doug Allen and Bill Muno acted as official race starters.
Jared Minard (Webelos den leader pack 738) did the track
set-up, organized the groupings, monitored the races and
announced the winners after each event.
The races began at 5:00pm and ran for about 90 minutes. It consisted of a series of eliminations until the winners in each Division were determined. Jared made the
trophy presentations for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and "Most Imaginative" derby car and Joan Voigt presented the "Best of
Show" trophy. A buffet dinner was served by the Cub
Scouts' families at the conclusion of the awards ceremony.
Assistant coach, Dennis Ewing (L) receives a donation check from Fallbrook Vintage Car Club representatives Joe and Joan Mauri with members of the Shetland Irish T-ball team participating in the presentation.
The Vintage Car Club recently made a donation to the Fallbrook Youth Baseball (FYB) program. The FYB organization receives no funding from the city, county or state agencies and depends solely on donations to help pay for the
cost of leasing the baseball field and the associated utility
and maintenance costs.
Youth baseball involves kids from ages 4 through 14
and the league presently has approximately 300 youngsters playing this season. The
Fallbrook Vintage Car Club is pleased to provide this donation to help provide the opportunity for our local youth to
play baseball.

As always the Cub Scouts were most appreciative of
the interest taken in this event by the FVCC. Monty Voigt
directed this event from its inception about 5 years ago and
was most instrumental in making it the fun family event it is
today. It was most fitting that the Cub Scouts named this
event in his honor.
Fallbrook Wrestling
Receives Donation
Chuck Tillotson submitted this photo in the Sourcebook contest to advertise the upcoming 49th annual Car
Show. His photo was honored by being published.
Vintage Car Club representatives Derek and Linda Lovett (far
right) present the donation check to Head Coach Greg Wagaman with team members of both wrestling teams participating in
the presentation.
Fallbrook Wrestling Association receives donation from Car Club. The Fallbrook Vintage Car Club
recently provided a donation to the Fallbrook High
School Wrestling Team and the Relentless Wrestling Kids Club. The donation will go toward helping
purchase team uniforms, equipment and pay for
travel expenses to, and the cost of, wrestling tournaments.
Both the High School team and the Relentless
Wrestling Kids Club (ages 5 thru 14) are coached by
Greg Wagaman and depend solely on donations to
offset expenses. Because the teams have the opportunity to wrestle practically year round by wrestling in local private clubs during the off season, it
becomes all the more important for these teams to
receive donations.
The Fallbrook Vintage Car Club is proud to be
able to help support the Wrestling Association’ activities.
This is why it’s so important to get
a permit when you want to build
that new garage.
Since his photo went to print, Chuck can only be
reached through his agent, who will set up an
appointment for you to have 5 minutes with Chuck.

FVCC Club warms up at
the Avocado Festival
On April 13th,
the Fallbrook Vintage Car Club
staged a mini-car
show in the 28th
Annual Avocado
Festival celebration as a prelude
to their upcoming
49thAnnual Vintage Car Show
scheduled for
May 25th. The
Club assembled a fine collection of vintage automobiles ranging
from Model A’s to classy Porsche’s and MG’s, to T-Birds and
Vette’s, the vehicles gathered on the corner of Fig and Main in
the Village.
The Club also tried out their new ‘pop up’ tents under which
they displayed an array of their sale merchandise including the
2014 Vintage Car Show poster, T-shirts and hats along with
many other types of car club and automotive memorabilia. As a
further enhancement to their upcoming May car show, the Club
has retained the services of ‘High Energy Sound and Lighting
Productions’ which also debuted on Sunday. The company will
MC the car
show, provide
background
music, make
award announcements
and generally
entertain the
attendees with
humorous
banter.

The Trip to Nethercutt Museum
Recently, on a bright crisp Saturday morning, 56 members of
the Fallbrook Vintage Car Club
took a break from their donation
activities and made a trip to
Sylmar, California to tour the
renowned Nethercutt Collection
and Museum. Known the world
over as a one of the finest vintage car collections and a virtual
fairyland of restored vehicles,
musical instruments and period
furniture, the Club ventured off
via motor coach, to visit this
historical place.

Betty Locke)
Upon arrival, Club members
were taken on a guided tour through the Collection building. The Nethercutt Collection was founded in the late 50’s by J. B. Nethercutt, head of the Merle Norman Cosmetics firm. In the early 60’s, a six story
building entitled San Sylmar was built to house his growing collection of finely
restored autos and other collectables. Restored to the utmost degree of perfection, members
viewed such cars as
Lincoln’s, Cadillac's,
Packard's, PierceArrows and Duesenbergs as well as the
European marquees
including the Isotta
Franchini, HispanoSuiza, MercedesBenz and Rolls
Royce. They also
saw some of the
most unusual cars
ever built, like the
1934 Packard Dietrich convertible sedan
1907 Westinghouse,
the 1909 Gobron Brille, and a 1904 Cameron.
The car club group learned too that many of the cars in the Nethercutt
collection were made famous by the celebrity of the original owners, such as film star Rudy Valentino’s 1923 Voisin, Fatty Arbuckle’s 1923 McFarlan and Constance Bennett’s 1930 Rolls
Royce Phantom II Town Car used in many MGM movies.
The tour guide then took the club members through magnificent collections of rare musical instruments, player pianos,
Orchestrions, and one of the largest Grand Wurlitzer theater
organs in the world (5000+pipes). They also saw many
pieces of fine art, antique furniture, and automotive memorabilia throughout the building’s showrooms.

After taking a break for a box lunch and a leisurely rest on the lawn outside, members took a self guided tour through a
second building that was built in 2000 called the ‘Museum’ which today displays over 128 vintage autos, all of them restored to
absolute perfection and in operating condition. Also available to see where a 1937 Canadian
Pacific locomotive and a walk through of a 1912 private Pullman
railroad car once owned by Lucky Baldwin’s daughter. And, of course,

Later in the
afternoon, the
Vintage Car
Club members departed
the Nethercutt facilities in a state of bedazzlement vowing to return
again and again to soak up more of this absolutely magnificent wonderland of memorable antiques.

Gillespie Trip
Mr. & Mrs. Buick prepare for Fallbrook
On March 15th, 20 or more
members of the Shafters
Car Club, Fallbrook Vintage
Car Club and Palomar RC
Flyers Club went to The
San Diego Aerospace Museum at Gillespie Field.
Photos below are a sample
of what we witnessed. The
tour duration was slightly
over an hour given by the
manager of the facility. The
California's 49th Annual Vintage Car Show
Wayne and Ann Yonce, otherwise known as Mr. & Mrs. Buick to vintage
car aficionados, are the second oldest active members of the Fallbrook
Vintage Car Club
having joined it in
1980. They first
learned of Fallbrook when, in
1976, their newly
restored 1938
Buick Special
convertible won
it's National 1st
place award at the
only AACA National meet ever to
be held in Fallbrook. Impressed
with the area, they
purchased a 4acre parcel of raw brush land and three years later they built their hillside home over a 5 car garage and planted an avocado grove on the
remaining acreage.
Wayne and Ann recognize that they're getting
on in years so for this year's show they have begun preparations
early. By getting one of their four Buicks ready each month, they figure
they'll be able to enter their entire collection in this year's Vintage Car
Show to be held May 25. The restorations are all done by Wayne
(including the paint jobs inside his garage) with consulting, guidance,
and a little elbow grease provided by Ann. Today, they own a '38 Buick
Special convertible, '62 Buick Wildcat, '79 Buick Riviera-S Type and a
big long yellow '68 Buick Electra 225 convertible.
They have entered literally hundreds of car shows over the years.
This wouldn't be so unusual for a car collector, but what is so unique
about the Yonce's entries is that they have never transported their show
cars on a trailer. Instead, without concern for possible damages or
breakdowns,
they've driven
them from their
home in Fallbrook to enter
in shows and
tours as far as
Virginia, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Iowa and
Arizona and of
course, California.

Fallbrook Vintage Car Club provides a mini-car
show for Skilled Nursing Facility
On Saturday, April 5th, the Vintage Car Club provided a min-car
show as part of the Fallbrook
Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility’s
annual Spring Festival and Bar-B
-Q. About 20 vehicles from the
Club turned out with their shiny
vintage vehicles to put on a show
for the benefit of the residents. The residents, were assisted by Skilled Nursing Facility employees and volunteers in their tour of the cars on display.
They reminisced about this old Chevy or that pretty Mustang and told stories
of yesteryear and their youth.
Each year the Facility puts on their annual Spring Bar-B-Q which provides an opportunity for the residents to enjoy a fun afternoon with their visiting family members, Car Club members and employees. Held outdoors with
balloons a flying and a DJ playing oldies of the music world, the festivities
were enjoyed by all. Families and residents also enjoyed the petting zoo and
face painting and took advantage of a wonderful day full of fun.
The Fallbrook Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility is a 93 bed unit that reWayne
ceived the five star CMS rating. It is accredited by the Joint Commission and
and Ann have
certified by Medicare and Medi-Cal services to include post-surgical short

term rehabilitation care, as well as long term care.
they've encountered while touring to and from the shows. Although
each of their Buicks have won many awards, including the AACA's
Grand National Senior award and the equally coveted Buick Club senior
award, the memories of their "on the road" adventures have meant
much more to them than any trophy ever received.
The 49th Annual Fallbrook Vintage Car Show will be held over the
Memorial Day weekend on May 25th at Potter Junior High School, 1743
Reche Road. On display will be more than 300 superb vintage vehicles, food concessions, swap meet and other vendor booths.
