Moth control and pheromone traps
agrovista growing through innovation Moth control and pheromone traps Pheremone moth traps are essential tools in the drive to gain the best control of moth pests (including for those using Agrovista Growers Choice Interactive). Pheromone traps are used to detect pest populations early before they cause damage to the crop, to monitor the success of a control measure and to provide data on long term pest problems. Pheromone trap monitoring is an essential integrated pest management (IPM) tool for the management of damage-free crops. Monitoring of moth flights within the crop helps determine which species are present and when they are flying, so that timing of control measures can be targeted to ensure maximum effectiveness while avoiding unnecessary applications. Red Delta trap Pheromone traps rely on a lure, usually based on sex pheromones, to attract a particular pest. The pests are then caught on a sticky base or in a funnel trap to enable counts of pest numbers to be made. Lures are specific to a particular pest to ensure an accurate representation of the population. A wide range of lures and traps are available. Pheromone kits are supplied with sufficient components to enable monitoring of the target pest for a complete season. Where traps are re-usable, a refill kit will enable monitoring for a second season.
