By Vanita Gallo The Silver Wings Fraternity invites you to attend the quarterly luncheon meeting Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Perfect Landing Restaurant at Centennial Airport. Social hour starts at 11:30 and the meeting at 12:00. The speaker will be Chuck Stout, the director of the Colorado Aerospace History Project. Chuck has been involved with Wings Over the Rockies since its inception in many capacities, most recently as Curator of Civil Aviation and Space. The presentation for this event will be “The 20 Greatest Moments in Flight (That You Never Heard Of)”. It is a lively presentation of some of the often overlooked stories from the history of aviation. The talk is full of surprises that will fascinate aviation buffs. (OMG! You mean Lindbergh wasn’t the first to fly the Atlantic?) Silver Wings welcomes people of all ages and aviation experience as associate members. Voting members must have soloed 25 years ago. If you are not a member, I would welcome you as my guest. We meet 4 times a year for lunch and always have an outstanding aviation speaker. To register for the luncheon, contact me, Vanita Gallo, by phone 303-617-3957 or email gallovf@aol.com, or Babette Andŕe, 303-778-7145 or babetteandre@yahoo.com by Thursday, August 18, so we can have a head count for the restaurant. August 2016 Crosswind Chatter Page 4 Evening Meeting The next Thursday meeting will be August 25, 5 PM, at E's Just Good Eats at Rocky Mountain Metro Airprort. Members attending in July were Jan Lonsdale, Margot Plummer, Debbie McEndree and Anita Hessin. It was Margot's 70th birthday and Jan brought a surprise birthday cake. We celebrated! The Emily Warner Field Aviation Museum in Granby, Colorado, hosted a July aviation education program which encouraged young girls to explore aviation. Below, Colorado 99, Penny Hamilton, is flanked by Faith and Amelia Marsicek, who put together their red-white-blue gliders. Faith is already wearing her future pilot wings sticker and Amelia built a wooden bi-plane. Introducing girls early to aviation is key in building their interest to build a new generation of 99s. Photo courtesy of Jane Tollett, Grand County Commissioner. It was perfect weather for a flight to Walden (33V) The air was hazy from the wild fires, but, still the sky was Colorado blue. Members and friends who made the trip were Karlen Krall, Margot Plummer, Gretchen Jahn, Lydia Baldwin, Donna Walter, Laurie Stanton, Lynn Merrill, Gail Schipper, Julia Kirchenbaugh, Stephanie Wells, Terri Bazacos and Scott Griffith. And of course we were met and carted around by the wonderful Walden resident, Sarah Carlstrom. Wray City Manager James DePue is shown at left in the photo above with a trio of legendary veteran Wray Municipal Airport Board members who are retiring from their posts.
