The San Francisco Chronicle named DanceFAR to its list of the 10 best in dance 2015. Garen Scribner, James Sofranko, and Margaret Karl, current and former San Francisco Ballet dancers, founded DanceFAR in 2012, to raise funds and awareness for the work of the Cancer Prevention Institute of California, by providing a platform for artists to contribute to a good cause by sharing their talents. Last year’s sold-out performance included acclaimed local and international dancers from the San Francisco Ballet, Silicon Valley Ballet, Smuin Ballet, Alonzo King LINES Ballet and others who are committed to raising funds for cancer prevention. An unforgettable party will follow the performance with food and wine from some of San Francisco’s finest restaurants. Last year’s participating restaurants included EPIC Roasthouse, Waterbar, Wayfare Tavern, Mission Rock Resort, Twenty Five Lusk and Farallon. About the Cancer Prevention Institute of California: The Cancer Prevention Institute of California (CPIC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing cancer and to reducing its burden where it cannot yet be prevented. CPIC is the only freestanding research institution working solely to prevent cancer using population data. Proceeds from DanceFAR 2016 will advance CPIC’s efforts to uncover clues to the risk factors associated with such cancers as breast, lung, prostate, colorectal and thyroid, and to serve a wide range of populations through culturally sensitive materials and outreach. Since its founding, DanceFAR has raised over $350,000 for CPIC.
