These meetings are held at the RSL Club and we thank them for allowing us the use of their facilities Member 1430 The Club must adapt to survive. Why are the directors choosing to continue doing the same thing over and over and not adapting to newer strategies. Over reliance on gaming revenue and beer sales to keep the club afloat is an indication of the boards reluctance to move from an “old man’s“ interest instead of branching out and capturing a younger market. We also travel to other auxiliaries to enjoy morning tea and meet with their members. Over the past we have travelled to Urbenville, Pottsville, Iluka and other country towns. Ladies from Evans Head Woodburn and Broad water come and visit on our next get together. You do not have to be married or widow of a Returned Serviceman to join any lady may join. Be at the RSL Club about 9.30 am you will be most welcome. For further information Ring our Hon Secretary Julie Roberts 02 6682 2743 2 Woodburn-Evans Head RSL Club Oracle RSL Sub Branch Woodburn-Evans Head Sub-branch T Evans Head Fishing Classic he sub-Branch Diggers, were ably assisted by the wonderful student Captains of our local schools and Major Reverend Richard Brown MM who attended the annual Remembrance Day held at our War Memorial in Riverside Park Evans Head. T he organising of the 21st Annual Evans Head Fishing Classic is underway following the A G M which elected the following committee members for the coming year. Executive Committee President Jim Bennett Vice President Roger Wood Secretary Robyn Wood Treasurer Max Barton. A large group of family, friends and well wishers also joined the diggers and we greatly appreciate their attendance. The annual observance of this momentous occasion which occurred in 1918, the end of four long years of “modern warfare” is something which must never be consigned to the “dust bin of history”. The carnage of that conflict, which so affected the civilized world that it was later dubbed “The war to end all wars” was, sadly, misnamed. All members of the executive were elected unopposed. The General Committee; Ken Bridges - Douglas Wood – Tracey Bodley - Steve Bowler. Young men and women have continued to be sacrificed on the whim of politics and the avarice of profiteers. And for their service to our country we continue to be thankful and proud. Assisting the committee will be Ron Follers of the Woodburn Evans Head RSL Club and Karin Brown, Unit Commander of Evans Head Marine Rescue The committee are looking forward to some new and exciting options to further enhance the popularity of the recreational competition, as well as retaining all the popular features of the past competitions. By the time this report is circulated, I have no doubt that the Coffee Club Christmas Party will have been a great success due to the hard work of the unofficial committee which always seems to be there when needed. “Christmas is coming and the geese are getting fat” and so may have the Diggers and their ladies when the Coffee Club Christmas Party got going on the 2nd of December thanks to the tucker purchased from our local providores ( Pardon my Italian!) The usual categories are ongoing with Open – Cadets – the ever popular Junior Mini Competition. Dates to remember for the 2016 Fishing Classic 8th July 2016 to 15th July 2016. We have a Facebook page and also a Website www.evansheadfishingclassic.com As usual, we have no meeting in December; January is next followed by the AGM in February, last Wednesday. Nominations are needed for positions on the committee, chaps. Remember: Monthly meeting 5.00pm on Sunday 13th December 2015 Remembrance room RSL Jim Bennett President The Coffee Club meetings will continue each Wednesday morning as usual and the Mess 3 Woodburn-Evans Head RSL Club Oracle display posters remembering the Malaysian Confrontation and other post WW2 conflicts in their windows and we are delighted to announce that a photograph of Lily Campbell (the WWI nurse) has been sourced and will be added to the Veteran of the Month information in the RSL foyer. gatherings on Friday evenings 1630 to ???? will continue so “be there or be square”. All welcome for fellowship and fun. There may not be an Oracle for December. However, we will be back with news, views and maybe some Christmas gossip in January. Watch this space. There is still time to view the exhibition at the Living Museum of the award winning posters designed by Evans River K-12 students. The prize for the school of $1,000 for the Best Local History Project competition conducted by the DVA Australia wide was a wonderful recognition of the talent and hard work exhibited by Year 12 Modern History students. The next exhibition is entitled ‘Small Bites’ and is dedicated to the local fishing industry and will be opening early in 2016. Special mention must be given to our lovely LADIES Auxiliary they do a great job for the community – they have Coffee mornings where the Ladies all get together with other visiting Auxiliary folk and persons from Retirement homes.I believe it’s a very enjoyable morning – What makes it all the better is the Sub Branch assist in doing all the hard work [ like washing up – laying the tables – testing the food - ] Ladies if you have a bit of time to spare and you would like to mix with a nice crowd give the Ladies at the Auxiliary a ring [ that is any age from 19 + ] you do not have to be a widow or partner of a returned serviceman to be a member. The students from Years 9 and 10 at Evans River K-12 School have been allocated their WWI veterans to research for next year and if their orientation day at the Museum was anything to go by, we have another group of very enthusiastic young people eager to learn just what being a digger in 1916 was all about. Evans River Day Club. W e are a happy group of people who meet every Monday for a fun filled day with fifty three members and seventeen volunteers. Our day consists of gentle exercise, mental stimulation, laughter, and music followed by morning tea and a delicious cooked lunch all for the price of six dollars.
