is February 11. We hope
to see you there!
Discipline Policy Update
We have updated our discipline policy. The current policy states that when a student is issued a 3rd violation their parent(s) will meet
with administration. The updated policy now states that when a student is issued a 4th violation their parent(s) will meet with the administration. Please contact the Front Office with any questions.
Did you know Graham Primary School (GPS) and Graham Expeditionary Middle School (GEMS)
collects Box Tops for Education? Last year GEMS/GPS received over $260 for Box Tops submitted by our families! Please send them to school with your student and drop them off in the office. Thank you for your support!

Attention Parents of Graduating Seniors!
By now, your student should have made progress on several major milestones for life after TCS@ODU. Some of the things he
or she should have completed by now include:

Taking the ACT or SAT at least twice

Completing at least three college applications (preferably including one local school in Columbus)
Started searching for and applying for scholarships! Places to
look online include college websites, The Columbus Foundation,
Ohio Means Jobs K-12, and Ohio Higher Ed, the United Nego
College Fund, and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund.
As of January 1st, the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) became available for families to fill out. The majority
of students are considered dependent, and the FAFSA will require parent information. If you have questions about your student’s dependency status, the student should see Ms. Konet to
discuss his or her individual circumstances. A good goal to have
is to file the FAFSA by mid-February. Some steps to get started
include:

Signing up for an FSA ID. Each student and one parent
must have a unique FSA ID. Sign up online at http://
fsaid.ed.gov.

File your taxes early so that you can file the FAFSA! Although you can use a previous year’s information, it’s ideal to be
able to file with the most up-to-date information. If you know
you won’t have taxes completed before the end of February, use
your 2014 information. Just make sure to go back and update the
FAFSA with 2015 tax information as soon as it’s available!
Once your 2015 taxes are complete, you can import information
from the IRS directly to the FAFSA beginning February 7th, 2016.
Using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool will save you time and extra
paperwork!
Please encourage your student to regularly check his or her ODU
email during this last semester. There will be numerous surveys
to gather information, including height/weight for ordering caps
and gowns, announcements about tickets and meetings, and graduation progress. It’s extremely important that students stay current, and email is the most efficient system we have.
The first graduation meeting for the Class of 2016 will take place
on Friday, February 12th, 2016 at 5PM.
Important aspects of graduation will be discussed, including details of the ceremony, graduation tickets, initial discussion
of graduation speakers and graduation fees.
This meeting is taking place toward the end of parent-teacher
conference day. If you have questions or concerns about your
student's graduation progress, please come early to meet with Ms.
Konet, our college counselor. She will be available for individual
questions between noon and 4PM, but will not be available for
private conversations after the meeting. Thank you!

Way to Go Chris!
We are proud of all of our graduates. We have had the opportunity to know them as people
and as students. We have seen them grow as shy 9th graders into confident college students.
And we are proud to have been a part of their lives and seen that growth first hand.
One graduate, however, deserves special recognition at this time. Chris Sumlin (2013) is currently attending Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. Chris has always been a creative and
connected young man. He recently made a few YouTube videos that he thought would help
his friends get their first jobs and he did it using his muses, Rihanna and Beyonce. This was
picked up by USA Today yesterday and published on their website.
We are so proud of all of the creativity and positive energy that Chris brings into this world and
shares! Please take a moment to check out these videos and the article. WAY TO GO
CHRIS!

Plan to attend an evening in support of The Graham Family of Schools
Saturday, March 12, 2016
6:00-9:00pm
The Bishop James A. Griffin Student Center, Ohio Dominican University
Please consider donating an item(s) to the silent auction. We are looking for a variety of items. Contact Jennifer Waddell at (614) 2588588 or waddell.1@thecharlesschool.org with any questions, to buy tickets and/or make a donation. Thank you for your support!
ATTENTION
If your student is tardy in the morning (in the building after 7:30AM) they may be excused with signed written note or a phone call to
the office (614-258-8588) when you drop your student off. If your student is absent for any reason a written excuse or doctor's note is
required within two days of the student returning to school. If no note is turned in the absence will remain unexcused and may affect
academic standing and entrance into the early college program. If your student is sick for multiple days and you would like to pick up
their work or have it sent home via email, please contact the Front Office. If you are picking up your students' work, please give us the
day to collect that work and have it ready for you. Your students' teachers need some time to get work ready. Thank you for your
cooperation.
