VOLUME 3 ISSUE 3 OCTOBER 2015 Eagle News...Preschool Grandparents Chapel On October 8 and 9, our guests of honor, grandparents, had their very own special Grandparents’ Day Celebration to thank them for all the support they have provided. Grandparents were able to enjoy watching the Honey Pots, Cubbies, Busy Bees, Butterflies, Explorers and Little Learners say the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and the Bible, pray, and sing songs which included: “You Are My Sunshine,” “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands” and “Tell Me Why.” It was such a happy moment to see all the warm and smiling faces in the room, as the grandparents enjoyed all the work the children had put into making this performance a truly special one. Afterwards, the grandparents joined the children in their classrooms for some fun activities and an opportunity to see what goes on at preschool while their grandchild attends. It was a great time for all that came! “Grandchildren are the crowning glory of the aged...” Proverbs 17:6 VOLUME 3 ISSUE 3 PAGE 2 Johnny Appleseed Day There's no better way to celebrate Johnny Appleseed Day than to make homemade applesauce. Our preschoolers were involved in every step of the process, from bringing in an apple to washing and peeling it, to cutting and slicing, down to cooking and mashing. And most importantly, eating it. What a delicious smell our school smelled like that day! Aside from cooking and enjoying the yummy applesauce, each classroom took the fun to a more hands-on level. Various classes graphed apple color preference, labeled all 6 parts of an apple (skin, flesh, seed, stem, core, and leaves), named as many apple foods and drinks they could, weighed and compared apple weights, learned new cooking vocabulary (steam, boil, simmer, mash, and peeler) and tasted various types of apples to compare sweetness. One favorite activity our kiddos enjoyed was hypothesizing what was inside an apple. After many guesses teachers took an apple, halved it and showed how when cut just right God has hidden a star inside. What a fun day it was! The Johnny Appleseed Blessing Oh, the Lord is good to me, And so I thank the Lord for giving me the things I need The sun, and the rain, and the apple seed. Oh, the Lord is good to me. PAGE 3 EAGLE NEWS...PRESCHO OL TCS Creates Special Memories for all Ages! TCS honored and celebrated our grandparents on all four campuses, and they were truly the “Best Ever Grandparents’ Days!” Our grandparents were welcomed by our faculty and students and had a wonderful opportunity to create special and lasting memories. The response from our Grandparents was overwhelmingly positive! "Great school; wonderful teachers!" "The staff is really friendly and clearly love the children." "We feel very blessed to have our grandchildren at this school!" "I believe you are doing an amazing job building a future for my granddaughter." "This is a wonderful school! We are very happy our grandchildren are attending. They are both benefiting from Turlock Christian in many ways. The environment, the spiritual and educational aspects are all superior" "Outstanding school, strong Christian beliefs." "We are very impressed with the teachers and staff at TC. Mr. Winkler has been a great influence in our grandson's life and we will always be grateful." "Praises to the leadership and faculty. May God continue blessing your work for him in the classroom and other activities." "Thanks be to God for TC! And the WONDERFUL staff educating our grandchildren!" TCS is a special school, not only for teaching our students and preparing them for college and for life, but also for taking time to honor the special people who invest so much into the lives of our students. We are very blessed to have such incredible grandparents as part of our TCS family! The grandparents with the most alumni/grandkids at TCS had 8 TCS Grandkids! Partners Together, Karen Winter TCS Superintendent VOLUME 3 ISSUE 3 PAGE 4 How Does Your Garden Grow The Busy Bees Class has recently taken their learning outside the classroom and to the TCPS garden. On the first day of fall each child planted 2 bean seeds. In 6 days sprouts began to grow and now the plants are 3 inches tall! The students learned about preparation, turning and digging hard dirt into good soft soil. They also learned about attention and care, looking out for bad bugs and making sure they were watering regularly. Also, being careful not to step on the garden or ignore it. The Busy Bees also learned about patience because waiting to see results in a garden isn't always fast. We all need to be content in the process. Finally, the students learned about disappointment. Not everyone's seeds sprouted. Just as in life, we face our disappointments and go forward. They are good sports and are happy for those who have success and know that their turn will come. Another opportunity for them to plant something different is just around the corner. Now the Busy Bees will be hopeful to see if any beans will form on the plants just in time for our food group study in November! Keep your eye open to see what the Cubbies and Honey Pots will be planting! The Cubbies class has special days reserved for students to share an item from home and recently Sarbjit and Matthew Stephenson, parents of Mia, brought a boa constrictor snake named Nake. The children had the opportunity to see how God created an animal to move without feet. They also learned a fun fact about Nake; he changes to gray all over (including his eyes) right before he sheds his skin. It was fascinating to the children that he enjoys eating mice. Thank you to Matthew, Sarbjit and Mia for sharing with us and for a cool experience!
