Annual Halloween Party
Set for Fri., Oct. 26
Join the fun just outside the Legion 5-? on
Friday, October 26. Chow down on food
and candy. Dress up to enter the costume
judging contest. Try to win the prize at the
scavenger hunt. Everyone is welcome to
attend. See you there!

Legion Pancake Breakfast & Garden Club
flea market-Nov. 11, 8:30-1. Proceeds from
the flea market go to Brunsville improvement
projects.
Poultry Party-Nov. 17, 7PM, doors open at
5PM. The turkey boards are now available at
the Corner Cafe. Only a $1 a line! If your
number is revealed, you have your choice of
a turkey or a ham. The cards must be
redeemed at our Annual Poultry Party on the
17th. Congratulations to CONNIE EISMA of Le
Mars, who had the first winning card. Way to
go Connie, thanks for playing!

On Oct. 6, Mike Harms & girlfriend, Courtney Brian, had a boy,
Tanner. Grandparents are Rob & Tammy Wiese.
Molly Renken was Homecoming Royalty. She is granddaughter
of Joan & Erv Renken & Mert Oltmanns.
Crown bearer at Gehlen Catholic Homecoming was Riley
Kroll, son of Theresa Kroll, & grandson of Jerry & Nancy
Schlichte.
Benson Rieken is new to playing football
this year. His grandparents are Cheri Rus,
Denny Rieken & Gisela Dittman.

Gehlen Catholic Homecoming was held Sept. 24-28. Included on the court was Brittany Krienert,
daughter of Lyle & Alice Krienert.

Don & Betty Beitelspacher & Don’s sister, Delores Buryanek,
traveled to the East Coast for the Fall Foliage bus trip. They
flew to Philadelphia & took a bus from there. Some of the
many places they visited were Martha’s Vineyard, Ground
Zero, Canada, Niagara Falls, Cape Cod, Lake Placid, &
Gettysburg. They left Sept. 20 and returned Oct. 4. Don says,
“We had a great time and would recommend it to anybody.”
Ed & Gerry Sue Krienert, her sister, Jan, & her brother, Greg
Schmidt, drove to the Upper Peninsula, MI. They stayed 2
nights at the Dapple Gray B&B. The colors were beautiful!
Recipe of the Month:
Buttermilk Chocolate Cake
2 1/2 C. flour
5 T. cocoa
1 tsp. vanilla
1 C. vegetable oil
1 C. hot water

2 C. sugar
1 tsp. salt
2 eggs
1 C. buttermilk
2 tsp. baking soda
carpenter
Mix dry ingredients until well blended. Add baking
soda to water. Add vanilla, eggs, vegetable oil,
buttermilk & water-baking soda mixture to dry
ingredients. Stir well. Batter will be quite thin. Pour
into greased & floured pan (9x13”, jelly roll or two 9”
pans). Bake at 350 degrees until tests done.
Fudge frosting:
Combine 1 C. sugar, 1/3 C. milk & 6 T. butter. Bring
to a boil & boil for 75 seconds. Remove from heat &
stir in 6 large cut-up marshmallows, 1 C. chocolate
chips & 1 tsp. vanilla. Stir until well blended. Pour
over cake. Work fast as it sets up quickly.

Beginnings of St. Peter’s Lutheran
Church
In 1917, the Methodist Church of Dalton was
bought & moved into Brunsville. The
parsonage was built in the summer of 1922.
The cost was $2,945.
Soon after, Ihnke Harms donated 1 acre
west of town for a cemetery. A family lot
cost $20, a single lot, $5.
