The Local Cancer Community Update of Submitted by: Tim E. Renzelmann December 8, 2014 A SESSION YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS: TLC’s Year End Gathering of The Local Cancer Community! SCCCF Survive, Thrive & Be Fit / Active Survivors of Sheboygan Informational Meeting! Tuesday, December 16th The meeting for Monday, December 15th has been RESCHEDULED and will be held in conjunction with the TLC Survivorship Session – Local Cancer Community Year-End Holiday Gathering on Tuesday, December 16th where we will: Explain, discuss and address questions about SCCCF “Survive, Thrive & Be Fit” opportunities! Welcome new Active Survivors of Sheboygan! Discuss a unique “Hiking Along the Cancer Journey” experience that will include day hikes and overnight options for cancer survivors scheduled for May of 2015! 3rd Annual Hunting For A Cure Benefits Sheboygan County Cancer Care Fund! I know it is a busy time of year… but this is one session you will not want to miss! We will start off with a Meet & Greet between 5P & 6P that will include some delicious and healthy FOOD (Shrimp Cocktail, Fruit Kabobs, Cheese & Sausage with Crackers, Vegetables, and of course, some Holiday Cookies), all specially prepared for us by the culinary experts of the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice! Then, at 6P we will kick things off with s special announcement and unveiling before we look at photos and share stories from TLC’s Supportive Community events and SCCCF’s Survive, Thrive & Be Fit activities throughout 2014 and take a look at what is to come in 2015!!! The mission of Hunting for a Cure is to help raise funds and awareness for people suffering from cancer right here in our local area by creating a fun tournament where there will be great food, siilent auction and raffles, and a great time for all that get involved! All proceeds from the event will benefit local families with financial hardship due to cancer in Sheboygan County. Food, Silent Auction, Raffles, Live Music, Fun & Much More! TLC Survivorship Can Be Fun: The Many Variations of Yacht Wednesday, December 3rd! I brought out the many different versions of Yahtzee that I have accumulated over the years (photo below) as a group of survivors and cosurvivors gathered to play a few variations of Yacht (the predecessor of Yahtzee) including Crag (3-dice Yacht), Maxi Yatzy (6-dice Yachnt) and Double Cameroon (10-dice Yacht). Your score may be just a matter of chance… but the joy, pleasure, support and inspiration of connecting with fellow cancer survivors and co-survivors is nothing short of a “sure thing!” The Davita Way of Giving! The staff of DaVita Sheboygan Dialysis recently selected The Sheboygan County Cancer Care Fund as the recipient of “a big check” and generous donation! Please mark your calendar and watch this update (or our website) for times and locations of the SCCCF First Saturday of the Month Survive, Thrive & Be Fit Gathering! This past Saturday we hiked the Black River Trails on Sheboygan’s south side. It wasn’t our largest group to date… but we did have a good turnout at all three hikes (7A, 8A & 9A). We will return to the Black River Trails on Saturday, January 3rd (due to later sunrise, we will have group starts at 8A, 9A & 10A) and, with a little luck the conditions will allow us to do some snowshoeing (a limited supply of snowshoes will be available – contact Tim to reserve a pair). Due to the late sunrise, we will meet at 8A, 9A & 10A. I shared my idea of the SCCCF Survive, Thrive & Be Fit Challenge of the Month” with some of you while we were hiking on Saturday… and I encourage you to visit our website (www.scccf.org) and click on the “Get Active” tab to see what the Challenge of the Month will be for January, 2015!!! This month we will hike or snowshoe the Black River Trails located on Sheboygan’s south side (depending on conditions). Group starts at 8, 9 or 10A. Meet in the parking lot off of Hwy V (S. th 12 Street). You must have a WI State Park sticker or self-register to park in the lot or you can park along Hwy V (S. 12th St.) where no sticker/fee is required. A limited supply of snowshoes will be available (call Tim in advance to reserve).
