BOUQUET
Grow your own BOUQUET When designing a cut-flower garden, consider: SUN EXPOSURE: Find a spot that gets at least 6 hours of direct sun per day in order to produce an abundance of blooms. SEASONALITY: Visit the nursery several times a year in order to find plants which bloom year ‘round so you’ll always have a blossom to snip. THINK OUTSIDE THE BUD: Don’t just limit yourself to flowers-there’s plenty of plants which can add texture, color or fragrance to your bouquet. MAINTENANCE: To encourage maximum blooms, fertilize and deadhead (remove spent flowers) on a regular basis. BULK-UP ON BULBS: Bulbs are ideal candidates for cut-flower gardens! Spring-blooming bulbs are planted in fall, while summer-blooming bulbs are planted in spring. The Language of Flowers During the Victorian era, people assigned meaning to specific flowers and would present their friends and loved ones with bouquets filled with secret symbolism.
