Francesa turned down
a post-Dog Spitz show
By RYAN LAZO
Forget Mike and the Mad Dog.
Imagine what afternoon drives
would have been like with Mike
and Client 9.
Following longtime partner
Chris “Mad Dog” Russo’s depar
ture from WFAN in 2008, Mike
Francesa said he was approached
by former New York governor El
iot Spitzer in the hopes of becom
ing his new cohost.
“I was like, ‘Are you serious?’ ”
Francesa told the Hollywood Re
porter.
Unfortunately for Spitzer — who
was engulfed in a prostitute sex
scandal — Francesa decided to re
main solo. He has been a oneman
show ever since, excluding last
month’s soldout Radio City Music
Hall reunion with Russo, which
raised $1.1 million for charity.
Francesa has announced he will
leave WFAN when his contract ex
pires at the end of 2017, leading to
the kind of whatif speculation
that would fit in nicely during one
of his own callin segments. The
62yearold said he doesn’t want
his next venture to be in tradi
tional radio, claiming he has re
ceived overtures from one of the
following to develop a new line of
content: Apple, Google, Facebook
and Amazon.
“Soon you won’t be able to tell
the difference between where a
station starts and a podcast ends,”
he said.
(He also said his next play won’t
be motivated by money, boasting
to THR: “I’m a big stocks player. I
have a huge portfolio and I know
about every stock. I’m a big
trader.”)
Don Imus, the radio mentor who
referred to Francesa as “Fatso”
when he used to guest on his show,
said he thinks he will stay at
WFAN. Sports impresario Bill
Simmons, a longtime devotee, en
visions a bigbucks reunion with
Russo: “They are destined to grow
old together like an old married
couple,” Simmons told the maga
zine. “That’s what America
wants.”
Francesa, not for the first or last
time, tried to douse that dream.
“I don’t see that as being feasi
ble,” he said. “The kind of money it
would take to put us on the same
show on a fulltime basis? That
would be an incredibly expensive
show.”

NFL: Browns’ Gordon reinstatement denied
The NFL has denied suspended Browns receiver Josh
Gordon’s application for reinstatement, a league spokesman
confirmed Tuesday, saying Gordon can apply again at a fu
ture date. Gordon was suspended for all of 2015 for testing
positive for alcohol. A sample collected in March showed
Gordon had traces of marijuana and a diluting substance in
his system. The level of marijuana was less than the mini
mum required by the NFL for a positive test.
l Redskins running back Silas Redd was suspended indef
initely for violating the league’s policy for substances of abuse.
Erectile Dysfunction (E.D.)
when the “Magic Pill” isn’t so magic
E.D. affects more than 30 million
men in the U.S, and is especially
common with prostate surgery,
diabetes, high cholesterol, high
blood pressure and obesity. E.D.
undermines sexual confidence,
but treatment can restore it.
Attend a FREE seminar to learn
about approved E.D. treatment
options. Many treatments are
covered by most insurance and
prescription plans.

MLB: Harper two-run double lifts Nats
Bryce Harper sliced a tworun double to left with two
outs in the eighth inning, lifting the Nationals to a 21 victory
on Tuesday night in Washington for a 12th consecutive home
victory against the Braves.
l In Los Angeles, Paul Goldschmidt hit a goahead
homer in the eighth inning and drove in another run, and the
Diamondbacks won 42 to spoil the Dodgers’ home opener in
announcer Vin Scully’s final season.
ETC.: Ronaldo pushes Madrid to semis
Cristiano Ronaldo came through for Real Madrid
again, scoring a hat trick to lead his team back to the
semifinals of the Champions League with a 30 win over
Wolfsburg on Tuesday. Madrid overturned a 20 loss in
last week’s first leg to win 32 on aggregate.
l Kevin de Bruyne sent Manchester City into the
Champions League semifinals for the first time, securing
a hardfought 10 victory over Paris SaintGermain to
build on a 22 draw from the first leg.
l Court records show retired U.S. soccer star Abby
Wambach has pleaded guilty to driving under the influ
ence of intoxicants in a county courtroom in Portland,
Ore. The 35yearold was arrested April 2 after police said
she ran a red light and failed field sobriety tests.
l Pierre Dorion has made his first major move as Ot
tawa general manager, firing coach Dave Cameron after
the Senators finished 38359 and missed the playoffs.
