He and his family actively use artificial insemination and embryo transfer in their cattlebreeding program. In his career, Gary has worked in many segments of agribusiness, including commodity trading, grain processing and ingredient manufacturing. He has a BS from Purdue University in agricultural economics. Ashby grew up on a Mississippi crop, timber, and livestock farm. He graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in animal science and from Auburn with a veterinary degree before setting up a mixed-animal practice back home. He was an extension veterinarian at MSU, launched Posilac at Monsanto, led NAIS at the state of Florida veterinarian’s office, and was vice president of producer education for NCBA’s Beef Quality Assurance program. Ashby “retired” to a commercial cow-calf partnership in Florida and established AGDEO, LLC, an animal-health consultancy. He has been a leader at two breed associations, held board positions in the Beef Improvement Federation, the National Livestock and Meat Board and the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, founded and sold an animal genomics company and taught beef cattle management at the University of Illinois. He has a BS degree from the University of Illinois and MS and PhD from Colorado State University. Elisa grew up going to livestock shows in Brazil in connection with the Brazilian Simmental Association. She has helped many domestic and international breed associations and seedstock companies adopt genomics technology. Elisa has a PhD in animal science (genetics) from the University of Alberta–Edmonton, where her research focused on genetic markers for beef and dairy cattle improvement, and she has an MBA from Colorado State University. As an animal health rep she called on ranches and feedyards. She bought cattle for a national packer, is past president of the American National CattleWomen, past president of Texas CattleWomen and has been involved in many industry committees. He received his Ph.D. in beef cattle nutrition from the University of Nebraska, and from 1979 to 1993 was on the faculty of the Animal Science Department at the University of Missouri. He was a beef extension specialist at Montana State University and later executive director of education for the National Cattlemen’s Association. John has received numerous industry awards from the American Society of Animal Science, including the Pfizer Animal Health National Extension Award and the Distinguished Service Award.
