Dear friends, Almost a year ago our parish began a consultation process with Danel D. White --- Architects to develop wise renovation proposals for the interior of our church. While the structural “bones” of our building are basically quite good, the inside worship space needs a face-lift. In addition, some things need to be re-configured to meet current church guidelines for worship. Below are the list of concerns our liturgy committee began with: More appropriate place of repose for Eucharist (tabernacle). Left front of main chamber? Mother’s chapel? If tabernacle is placed in Mother’s chapel uses: Eucharistic chapel, children’s liturgy gathering place? Excavate large space behind sanctuary? Continue to use choir loft for large choirs? Placement of organ? Renovate sanctuary space. Elevate sanctuary to a uniform level: not so many little steps and obstacles. Better visibility for presider’s chair. Consider refiguring the sanctuary, losing space in back (excavated musicians’ space) and extend center of sanctuary (and altar) into the assembly space. Remove side altars; should be only one altar. Better and more dignified baptismal font---at main doors? Mid-way into church? Front left? Separate baptistery? Evaluate and improve interior lighting Provide another place from which to make announcements (instead of using ambo) Better and more seating for handicapped. Reconfigure seating in front, movable seats? Put projection screens (for music) in better places (perhaps one on each side), and provide monitors for those sitting in side rooms? More and nicer sanctuary furnishings, candlesticks, etc. more options. Better landscaping at main door and along side of church building. Perhaps a permanent place for paschal fire? Replace or fix entry doors. Evaluate furnishing and lighting of confessional spaces. Use unutilized confession is as devotional spaces Create new devotional spaces for statues Better sanctuary furnishings: chairs for Quinceañera and weddings, etc. Illuminate St. Margaret Mary image so people driving by at night can see it? Illuminate front façade of church? Better parking lot lights Bride’s room? Better storage Make stations of the cross brighter Evaluate statues and where we’d like to place statues Get church bells working again In sacristy: functional sanctorum, sink, provision for washing In the course of consultation, two other concerns were added: 26. Evaluate parking lot; create welcoming areas by church entrances. 27. Have an excellent state-of-the-art sound system We had to decide early whether to prioritize the tasks and apply judicious band-aids --- or “go for it” and create a solid, well -thought, consistent splendid worship space that will stand up to time the way the exterior building has. We decided for the latter! Doing things very well will be extremely expensive --- over a million dollars! --- but St. Margaret Mary Church is not like some shopping mall that’s here today and gone tomorrow. The Catholic church will be here for a long time. And it seems to be our vocation now to create a splendid worship space for coming generations. I find this extremely exciting! You will be hearing lots about the proposed renovation in the weeks ahead. Also, before long we’ll have an open parish meeting to speak, listen, and ask God to bless the work of our hands. Queridos amigos, Hace casi un año nuestra parroquia comenzó un proceso de consulta con Danel D. White---Arquitectos, para desarrollar propuestas sabias de renovación para el interior de nuestra iglesia. Mientras que los "huesos" estructurales de nuestro edificio básicamente están bastante bien, el interior de Nuestro lugar de culto necesita un lavado de cara.
