Greg McCall is in his fifth season as
the head women’s basketball coach at
CSU Bakersfield.
McCall led the Roadrunners back to
the WNIT in 2014-15 as CSUB won a
Division I school record 23 games (239). The Roadrunners finished second
in the Western Athletic Conference for
the second consecutive season.
In year three, McCall led the Roadrunners to a 19-12 mark,
a second place finish in the Western Athletic Conference,
and an appearance in the 2014 WNIT.
Limited at times to just six players during his first campaign, the Roadrunners continued to compete, winning two
of their final four games to finish the 2011-12 campaign
with a 7-22 record. CSUB improved to 12-17 in year two,
winning a school Division I record nine consecutive games
at one point.
McCall won his 50th career game at CSU Bakersfield on
Jan. 10, 2015 when the ‘Runners defeated Grand Canyon
90-67. McCall is 62-67 as Bakersfield’s head coach.
Prior to becoming head coach, McCall spent the previous
four seasons as an assistant at CSUB helping guide the
Roadrunners to a pair of postseason appearances including a 22-12 record in 2011. He was instrumental in recruiting student-athletes for the ‘Runners, along with scouting,
game planning and player development.
This is McCall’s second stint as a head coach, as he
previously led nearby Taft College for 10 seasons (19972007), helping restart the Cougars’ women’s basketball
program and successfully leading them into the CCCAA
Tournament. He won 98 games at Taft.
He began his coaching career at CSUB under Pat
Douglass, winning a NCAA Division II National
Championship in 1997. He also played for Douglass and
was a team captain on the Roadrunners’ 1991 Division II
Final Four team.
Greg and his wife Tanae a daughter, Choloe while McCall
has three other children. Coach McCall’s oldest daughter,
