Running Club! Lakewood Elementary School Sharon Elder, Principal Grace Jernigan, Assistant Principal March 16, 2015 The Explorer Express “Explorers lead the way!” Lakewood on Our 10th annual Lakewood on the Green golf tournament was a big success! Thank you for all your support by securing classroom sponsors, business sponsors, prize donations, golf teams, and for having your Explorers there to enjoy the Kids' Event. the Green 2015 March 17th—4th Grade Dance March 18th—Report Cards Mrs. Griggs's fourth grade class wrote letters to navy recruits to give them encouragement while they are attending basic training . Her students were so excited when they received letters back ! March 19th—PTA 6pm March 20th—3rd Grade Awards 1:30 March 23rd—4th Grade Awards 1:30 March 24th—5th Grade Awards 1:30 March 26th—Math and Science Day March 27th—Spring Holiday March 30th—April 3rd— Spring Break ! LES Media Center recently held a book fair. Our profit was approx. $2,300! These funds will be used to purchase new book titles and ebooks for the Media Center! Fourth Grade Students Get Electric! Fourth grade students conducted experiments with electricity. They were given a battery , wire , and light bulb . They had to explore different ways to use these materials to make the light bulb work . Then , they tested other objects to see if they were conductors or insulators . Pictured are students from Mrs. Tyson’s class. 5th Grade students visit the library once a week for a 30 minute session to be exposed to literacy skills. This week, students are focusing on the fairytale genre. Students are using the iPads to complete a fairytale webquest. Spring Break Library Dates Friday, March 20th—Last day to check-out books Tuesday, March 24th—All Library Books DUE! If you would like or your child to keep library books checked-out over Spring Break, you must send in a note of permission no later than Tuesday, March 24th. If students have a note they can continue to check out library books until March 26th and keep them over break. If books are lost or damaged over break, it will be the students responsibility to pay the fine to replace the book. Lakewood recently purchased 20 iPad Mini tablets! We are so excited about the endless possibilities of using these tablets with our students! Read about LES and other Phenix City schools in the The Phenix Forward Lakewood has officially adopted two areas in our community to keep litter-free —our own beautiful campus area and the Phenix City Coach Pitch Ball Fields. Our signs will be up soon. We invite our parents to help by checking these areas routinely and properly disposing of litter.
