This proposal seeks to relieve
development pressures from
the coastal town of Jelsa by
expanding
the
towns
community
into
the
agricultural basin to the south;
By introducing a lighting
system throughout the region,
movement is encouraged
from Jelsa toward the hill
towns.
This type of expansion is
flexible enough to respond to
the needs of the local
agricultural
community
without
threatening
to
overdevelop
the
host
landscape.

Through
the
renovation
and
rehabilitation of abandoned structures
in these small towns, a diffuse hotel
system (where the hotel is a network of
individual buildings, rather than a
singular building with many rooms) can
become an economically viable,
culturally engaging solution to relieve
the regions tourism capacities during
peak seasons.

The main function of ‘library’ as
program is the storage of and
access to information- and thus
this structure investigates the
formal
and
programmatic
consequences of digitized data.
Rather than housing stacks, the
building would be required to
accommodate the dimensions of
large data processors and a
means of intuitive access; in this
exercise, a large touch screen
enables data retrieval while the
facade responds to both the
urban and solar conditions.
