Dari Presiden
Para Pemangku Kepentingan yang terhormat,
A
mengajak seluruh pemangku kepentingan bersama-sama terlibat
AQUA Grup dua tahun terakhir, 2013-2014. Selain mengungkapkan informasi
Seluruh isi Laporan Keberlanjutan AQUA Grup 2013-2014 berdasar

dan penyehatan lingkungan (Water Access, Sanitation and
Hygiene—WASH), pertanian berkelanjutan, konservasi berbasis
masyarakat, serta pengembangan ekonomi lokal melalui
penguatan usaha mikro.
Laporan Keberlanjutan ini juga mencatat pentingnya
pelibatan komunitas dan para pemangku kepentingan,
mulai dari perencanaan, implementasi, hingga
pemantauan dan evaluasi program, proyek, dan
aktivitas. Kami bekerja sama dengan multipihak
yang berkepentingan dan kompeten untuk
memperluas cakupan program untuk komunitas.
Komitmen
keberlanjutan
AQUA
Grup
tidak akan terwujud secara konsisten tanpa
keikutsertaan dan dukungan semua pihak. Agar
kami dapat terus memperbaiki diri, masukan,
saran, kritik, dan kesediaan para pemangku
kepentingan bekerja sama menjadi keniscayaan
terhadap tekad perbaikan dan penguatan
komitmen bisnis yang berkelanjutan di masa
mendatang.
Salam Lestari

Strategi, Tata
Organisasi
A
Ulang tahun AQUA ke 40 sekaligus peluncuran logo baru AQUA.
B
isnis AQUA Grup bertujuan
memenuhi kebutuhan
konsumen terhadap produk air
minum dalam kemasan (AMDK)
yang sehat. Dalam proses
produksinya, Perusahaan
mematuhi seluruh aspek dan
dampak keberlanjutan yang
meliputi sosial, ekonomi, dan
lingkungan. Mengingat produk
AQUA Grup berbasis pada sumber
daya air, tantangan utama yang
dihadapi adalah kelestariannya,
disusul kemudian dampak sosial
dan ekonominya.
Melalui pendekatan
manajemen yang terintegrasi,
berdasar pada filosofi Komitmen
Ganda Danone, pada 2013-2014
AQUA Grup terus mencatat kinerja
positif. Kinerja ini dicapai dengan
keterlibatan pemangku
kepentingan internal dan eksternal.
Penerapannya konsisten dengan
berbagai standar dan panduan,
8
baik global maupun nasional dan
lokal di mana AQUA Grup
mengoperasikan fasilitas produksi
dan distribusinya, serta
menerapkan inisiatif-inisiatif baru.
Menghadapi tantangan serta
peluang kompetisi bisnis, produk
dan distribusi ke konsumen,
manajemen AQUA Grup bersinergi
secara terstruktur dari kantor
pusat di Jakarta hingga ke tingkat
operasi pabrik dan distribution
center. Kinerja serta capaian
kebijakan dan strategi manajemen
ini dilakukan dengan melibatkan
para pemangku kepentingan
AQUA Grup, yaitu konsumen,
pihak-pihak yang terdampak
langsung, dan atau yang
berkepentingan. Bentuk-bentuk
pelibatan dengan pemangku
kepentingan ini mulai dari tingkat
informasi dan komunikasi hingga
pelibatan dan kerja sama.
QUA Grup saat ini terdiri atas
tiga perusahaan yang
berdomisili di Indonesia, yakni PT
Aqua Golden Mississippi (dahulu
PT Golden Mississippi), PT Tirta
Investama, dan PT Tirta
Sibayakindo; serta satu
perusahaan yang berada di Brunei
Darussalam, yaitu Ibic Sdn Bhd
(khusus dengan merk "Sehat")
(G4-3). AQUA Grup memproduksi
enam jenis kemasan, yaitu 240
mililiter (ml), 330 ml, 600 ml, 1,5
liter (l), galon, dan kemasan kaca
380 ml (G4-4). Seluruh operasi
bisnis dan produksi AQUA Grup
dikoordinasikan oleh kantor pusat
di Jakarta (G4-5).
Laporan ini hanya mencakup
Indonesia, yang merupakan pusat
operasi produksi AQUA Grup
(G4-6), dan tidak termasuk Ibic
Sdn Bhd. Dalam memperkuat
strategi bisnis, pada 4 September
1998 Danone Asia Holding Pte Ltd
bergabung dengan AQUA Grup
dan kini menjadi pemegang saham
mayoritas. Danone yang berpusat
di Paris, Perancis, telah dikenal
kiprahnya sebagai manufaktur
makanan dan minuman kelas dunia
(G4-7).
PT Aqua Golden Mississippi
yang sebelumnya adalah
perusahaan terbuka dan tercatat di
Bursa Efek Indonesia (BEI), pada
2010 resmi menjadi perusahaan
tertutup. Mengingat seluruh
Kelola, dan Kinerja
perusahaan dalam AQUA Grup
adalah perusahaan tertutup,
penjualan bersih dan total modal
yang didasarkan pada utang dan
ekuitas tidak dilaporkan dalam
laporan ini.
Saat ini AQUA Grup adalah
pemimpin pasar AMDK di
Indonesia, dengan konsumen dan
penerima manfaat dari seluruh
tingkatan usia, ekonomi, dan sosial
(G4-8). Dengan kapasitas
terpasang, AQUA Grup
memproduksi rata-rata 33 juta liter
AMDK per hari dalam berbagai
ukuran (G4-9).
Pada akhir 2014 tercatat lebih
dari 12.500 karyawan bergabung di
AQUA Grup, yang tersebar di
kantor pusat di Jakarta, 17 pabrik
dan 14 distribution center yang ada
di seluruh Indonesia, serta mini
plant di Legos (Sukabumi) dan
Gatsu (Denpasar). Pada 2013 dan
2014 karyawan tetap AQUA Grup
mencapai 12.131 dan 12.300, serta
karyawan tidak tetap 230 dan 215.
Dari jumlah ini, karyawan laki-laki
mencapai 10.807 (2013) dan
10.944 (2014) sedangkan
perempuan 1.554 (2013) dan 1.571
(2014) (G4-10).
Lebih dari 95% karyawan
berstatus tetap, dengan jenjang
karier dan penilaian berkala melalui
sistem Performance Development
Review (PDR) (G4-10). Hak dan
kewajiban perusahaan dan
karyawan disepakati bersama dan
Penandatanganan Perjanjian Kerja Bersama (PKB) antara Serikat Pekerja Danone AQUA
Grup (SPDAG) dengan AQUA Grup, 8 Juli 2013.
dituangkan dalam dokumen
Perjanjian Kerja Bersama (PKB).
Lebih dari 90% karyawan
bergabung dalam Serikat Pekerja
Danone AQUA Grup (SPDAG)
(G4-11).
AQUA Grup juga memfasilitasi
karyawan untuk terlibat dalam
program yang berkontribusi
terhadap perubahan dan
perbaikan sosial, ekonomi, serta
konservasi lingkungan. Sejalan
dengan itu, AQUA Grup
mendorong seluruh pemasoknya
menerapkan prinsip keberlanjutan
pengadaan barang dan jasa serta
etika bisnis melalui inisiatif
Responsible Sourcing Programs
(RESPECT) dan aplikasi Supplier
Ethical Data Exchange (SEDEX).
Sejak 1982, air yang merupakan
bahan baku utama dalam operasi
produksi di pabrik-pabrik AQUA
Grup diperoleh langsung dari
lapisan tanah dalam, karena secara
alamiah telah memiliki komposisi
mineral alami. Pengelolaan pabrik
mengutamakan kearifan dan
sumber daya lokal. Pemasok lokal
dilibatkan dalam rantai pasok
kecuali pada transportasi produk
yang masih menggunakan pihak
ketiga (G4-12).
9
Stabilitas bisnis dan produksi
AQUA Grup mampu mewujudkan
visi dan misi perusahaan serta
memenuhi kebutuhan dan
kepuasan konsumen. Karena itu,
hingga akhir periode yang dicakup
dalam laporan ini tidak ada
perubahan signifikan yang terjadi
pada struktur kepemilikan,
organisasi, hingga rantai pasok
(G4-13).
Sejalan dengan visi dan misi
perusahaan, bisnis dan produksi
AQUA Grup menerapkan prinsip
kehati-hatian sesuai praktik
manajemen modern. Praktik dan
ketatalaksanaan ini didukung
strategi keberlanjutan AQUA Lestari
dengan empat pilar utama, yaitu:
1. Pelestarian Air dan
Lingkungan;
2. Praktik Perusahaan Ramah
Lingkungan;
3. Pengelolaan Distribusi Produk;
4. Pelibatan dan Pemberdayaan
Masyarakat.
AQUA juga melibatkan
pemasok, seluruh karyawan,
konsumen, dan para mitra yang
bergerak di bidang pemberdayaan
masyarakat dan konservasi
lingkungan dalam
mengimplementasikan strategi
keberlanjutan AQUA Lestari
(G4-14). Prinsip RESPECT yang
diwujudkan melalui SEDEX
menjadi inisiatif yang konsisten
diimplementasikan oleh AQUA
Grup (G4-15).
AQUA Grup hingga saat ini
merupakan anggota aktif Asosiasi
Perusahaan Air Minum Dalam
Kemasan Indonesia (Aspadin),
yang merupakan salah satu media
untuk memberikan input positif
kepada pemerintah serta
membangun komunikasi
konstruktif di antara perusahaan
AMDK (G4-16).
Konsistensi dalam menerapkan
prinsip-prinsip dan inisiatif-inisiatif
tersebut mendapat apresiasi dari
para pemangku kepentingan
melalui berbagai penghargaan
yang diterima AQUA Grup
sepanjang 2013-2014.

Materialitas dan Pembatasan
L
aporan Keberlanjutan 20132014 ini mencakup tiga
perusahaan AQUA Grup dengan
kantor pusat di Jakarta, 17 pabrik,
serta 14 distribution center yang
tersebar di seluruh Indonesia
(G4-17). Isi laporan ditentukan
berdasarkan analisis manajemen
risiko, mencakup seluruh
perusahaan, pabrik, dan
distribution center AQUA Grup di
Indonesia.
Pendekatan penentuan isi
pemangku kepentingan; konteks
keberlanjutan; materialitas; dan
kelengkapan (G4-18). Berkaitan
dengan manajemen risiko, AQUA
Grup memiliki departemen khusus
yang bertugas dan secara berkala
mengidentifikasi, menyusun
prioritas, menyahihkan, dan
meninjau ulang risiko keberlanjutan
perusahaan. Departemen ini juga
mendukung hal-hal yang berkaitan
dengan pengelolaan risiko serta
membangun kultur dan
infrastruktur pengendalian internal,
serta pengelolaan dan
pengendalian risiko keberlanjutan.
Materialitas yang diidentifikasi
pada periode 2013-2014 adalah
aspek-aspek yang memengaruhi
pandangan dan pengambilan
keputusan pemangku kepentingan
terhadap AQUA Grup (G4-19), yang
meliputi:
• Pelibatan dan pemberdayaan
masyarakat
• Transportasi
• WASH
•
•
•
•
Kekeringan dan konservasi
Regulasi
Pengelolaan sampah plastik
Pengelolaan air buangan
Ketujuh isu tersebut
didapatkan dari hasil lokakarya
internal, manajemen risiko, audit
reputasi, survei pelanggan,
penelusuran pemberitaan di media,
surat elektronik, telepon, dan
Focus Group Discussion (FGD)
dengan para ahli. Selain itu, baik
Kantor Pusat maupun pabrik
memiliki dokumen laporan
penanganan keluhan para
pemangku kepentingan. Masukan
dari pemangku kepentingan
didokumentasikan dan menjadi
pertimbangan dalam sejumlah
keputusan penting.
Aspek-aspek material
teridentifikasi, yang juga
memengaruhi penilaian dan
pengambilan keputusan
manajemen, menjadi tanggung
jawab seluruh organisasi, lini
produksi, dan distribusi AQUA
Grup. Namun, untuk memberikan
gambaran patokan kinerja
ekonomi, sosial dan lingkungan,
laporan ini difokuskan pada Pabrik
Mekarsari dan Babakan Pari di
Sukabumi, juga Pabrik Klaten dan
Pabrik Wonosobo (G4-20).
Bagi para pemangku
kepentingan, semua aspek material
yang diidentifikasi itu menjadi
perhatian di seluruh wilayah
produksi dan distribusi AQUA
Grup, namun dengan prioritas
yang berbeda-beda. Aspek
pelibatan dan pemberdayaan
masyarakat, pengelolaan limbah,
dan pengelolaan limbah cair
menjadi perhatian di seluruh
pabrik; sedangkan transportasi
sangat material di pabrik dan
11
FOTO: DOKUMENTASI AQUA GRUP
distribution center yang berada di
wilayah dengan kepadatan lalu
lintas tinggi; kemudian aspek
peningkatan akses air bersih serta
kekeringan dan konservasi menjadi
perhatian di pabrik yang berada di
daerah yang rawan kekeringan
(G4-21).
AQUA Grup tidak mengelola
langsung seluruh aspek material
yang teridentifikasi. Pemenuhan
regulasi transportasi, keselamatan,
dan banyaknya permintaan
menjadi distributor produk,
melibatkan entitas bisnis lain.
12
Armada truk AQUA bersiap mengirim produk ke distribution center, Sukabumi.
Walau AQUA Grup memiliki
mekanisme pemantauan dan
pengawasan kinerja para mitra,
kinerja keberlanjutan mereka tidak
masuk dalam laporan ini. Karena
itu, dalam laporan ini terdapat
pengulangan pernyataan
komitmen dan kebijakan yang
terkait dengan entitas bisnis lain
yang berada di rantai pasok AQUA
Grup (G4-22).
Dibanding periode 2011-2012,
perubahan signifikan Laporan
Keberlanjutan 2013-2014 terletak
pada penggunaan GRI G4,
menggantikan GRI G3.1 yang
digunakan sebelumnya. Dengan
panduan GRI G4, aspek material
bertumpu pada pemangku
kepentingan, dibanding GRI G3.1
yang bertitik berat pada
manajemen AQUA Grup. Dari
cakupan dan pembatasan, tidak
ada perubahan signifikan yang
terjadi sepanjang periode
pelaporan (G4-23).
Strategi Keberlanjutan AQUA Grup
I
AQUA Grup berkomitmen
penuh mengelola sumber
daya air secara berkelanjutan.
Komitmen ini diimplementasikan
dalam bentuk mengelola dampak
operasi, menjaga keseimbangan neraca
air, mengendalikan kualitas air, dan
mengelola sumber daya air secara arif.
AQUA Grup selalu mematuhi
peraturan yang berlaku. Di sisi lain,
AQUA Grup juga menyelenggarakan
berbagai inisiatif program pelestarian
air dan lingkungan dari hulu ke hilir.
Konservasi yang dilakukan di daerah
tangkapan air turut berkontribusi
dalam menjaga pelestarian DAS
di setiap lokasi pabrik. Penelitianpenelitian terkait sumber daya
air, pendidikan lingkungan hidup,
rehabilitasi saluran irigasi, serta
pembuatan sumur resapan dan biopori,
merupakan bagian integral dari inisiatif
AQUA Grup dalam pengelolaan dan
pelestarian sumber daya air.
Seluruh inisiatif itu diikat dalam
komitmen internal berbentuk Kebijakan
Perlindungan Sumber Daya Air yang
merujuk pada komitmen Danone
tentang perlindungan lingkungan air
tanah dalam (ground-water policy).
Praktik Perusahaan Ramah
Lingkungan
AQUA Grup menjalankan
operasi bisnisnya dengan
mengedepankan nilai-nilai Hak
Asasi Manusia (HAM) dan Kesehatan
dan Keselamatan Kerja (K3) sesuai
kepatuhan pada peraturan dan
perundang-undangan yang berlaku.
Berkenaan dengan emisi sebagai salah
satu isu lingkungan utama global,
inisiatif pengurangan jejak karbon
dilakukan melalui penghematan energi,
air, serta bahan baku plastik dan
kemasan, yang dikelola berdasarkan
target penurunan emisi karbon yang
ditetapkan Danone serta dipantau
melalui audit reguler.
Pengelolaan Distribusi Produk
AQUA Grup terus mengkaji
penggunaan moda transportasi
alternatif untuk distribusi
produk yang ramah lingkungan.
Program yang dilaksanakan antara
lain penggunaan kereta api untuk
pengangkutan produk galon dari
Sukabumi ke Jakarta, manajemen
transportasi yang diterapkan bekerja
sama dengan pihak jasa logistik,
keselamatan berkendara, perbaikan/
perawatan jalan, serta pengelolaan
dampak distribusi produk (khususnya
sampah kemasan) melalui program
pemberdayaan pemulung.
Pelibatan dan Pemberdayaan
Masyarakat
Target utama jangka panjang
pelibatan dan pemberdayaan
masyarakat adalah menyatukan
visi AQUA Grup dengan para
pemangku kepentingannya dalam
berkontribusi kepada pembangunan
berkelanjutan. Implementasi pilar ini
difokuskan pada perlindungan dan
pelestarian sumber daya air melalui
praktik-praktik pertanian organik
terpadu, peningkatan akses air bersih,
kemandirian sosial-ekonomi masyarakat
melalui pemberdayaan usaha mikro dan
koperasi, serta perluasan akses modal
dan pasar.

Hubungan dengan Pemangku Kepentingan
P
ara pemangku kepentingan
AQUA Grup dikelompokkan
sebagai: kelompok pemerintah,
bisnis, masyarakat sipil, konsumen,
karyawan dan sejumlah figur
masyarakat (G4-24).
Pengelompokan ini didasarkan
pada pemetaan pemangku
kepentingan yang setiap tahun
diperbaharui dengan
menggunakan penilaian atribut
"pengaruh pemangku kepentingan
pada AQUA Grup" dan "pengaruh
AQUA Grup pada pemangku
kepentingan" (G4-25). Pemetaan
yang sama dilakukan pula terhadap
isu. Dengan demikian, AQUA Grup
dapat mengindentifikasi isu-isu
yang menjadi perhatian pemangku
kepentingan.
14
AQUA Grup membangun
hubungan dengan pemangku
kepentingan mengacu kepada
praktik terbaik yang diformulasikan
dalam dokumen ISO 26000:2010Social Responsibility dan AA1000
Stakeholder Engagement Standard
(SES). Intensitas hubungan antara
AQUA Grup dan pemangku
kepentingan yang relevan dengan
setiap isu penting dan material,
mengikuti kebutuhan sesuai
praktik terbaik dan kebutuhan
antar para pihak (G4-26).
Selama periode pelaporan,
perhatian utama pemangku
kepentingan terkonsentrasi pada
isu-isu yang meliputi pelestarian
sumber daya air, pengelolaan
limbah, serapan tenaga kerja lokal,
program pengembangan
masyarakat serta keberlanjutan
sejumlah inisiatif program AQUA
Grup terkait praktik perusahaan
yang ramah lingkungan.
Secara internal isu hak
karyawan dan K3 tidak menonjol
karena AQUA Grup sudah
menerapkan sistem yang dinilai
memadai. Pada kalangan
konsumen, isu lebih banyak
berkaitan dengan permintaan
menjadi distributor produk. Tidak
ada isu yang berhubungan
langsung dengan jaminan
keamanan dan kesehatan produk
(G4-27).
Laporan Keberlanjutan 2013-2014
L
aporan Keberlanjutan ini adalah untuk
melaporkan tata laksana, kinerja, dan capaian
AQUA Grup pada 2013-2014 (G4-28). Sebelumnya,
AQUA Grup telah menerbitkan laporan yang sama,
masing-masing untuk 2010 dan 2011-2012 (G4-29).
AQUA Grup memilih dua tahunan sebagai siklus
pelaporan keberlanjutannya. Laporan ini
menggunakan data dari 1 Januari 2013 hingga 31
Desember 2014 (G4-30).

dan Pengungkapan Standar Khusus, kinerja aspek
ekonomi, lingkungan, dan sosial juga dilaporkan
sesuai dengan pedoman GRI G4.
AQUA Grup tidak secara langsung
mendapatkan penjaminan terhadap Laporan
Keberlanjutan 2013-2014. Namun, sertifikasi ISO
14001:2004 – Environmental Management yang
diperoleh untuk manajemen pengelolaan
lingkungan telah menunjukkan tingkat kepatuhan
AQUA Grup terhadap standar global yang
independen. Manajemen tertinggi AQUA Grup
terlibat dalam kebijakan, implementasi, dan
pencapaian kinerja manajemen lingkungan
berstandar ISO 14001:2004 ini (G4-33).

terhadap AQUA Grup.
Sejak PT Aqua Golden
Mississippi, salah satu perusahaan
yang tergabung dalam AQUA
Grup, menjadi perusahaan tertutup
dan delisting dari BEI, AQUA Grup
mewarnai nilai-nilai perusahaanperusahaannya dengan standar
dan protokol yang dimiliki.
AQUA Grup secara konsisten
mengimplementasikan Danone
Governing and Operating Process
(DANgo) untuk memberikan
pengarahan lebih jelas dan terukur,
sekaligus mendukung pengelolaan
bisnis secara aman, efisien, dan
berkelanjutan. Melalui DANgo,
setiap Country Business Unit (CBU)
bertanggung jawab komprehensif
terhadap pencapaian keseluruhan
aspek keberlanjutan.
Ada empat perangkat turunan
DANgo yang diterapkan dalam
mengukur pelaksanaan tata kelola
AQUA Grup, yaitu Danone Internal
Control Evaluation (DICE) sebagai
pedoman pengendalian internal;
Danone Operating Model (DOM)
sebagai pedoman praktik-praktik
terbaik dalam menjalankan bisnis;
16 prinsip dasar Danone Way; dan
Vestalis sebagai pedoman
pengelolaan risiko perusahaan.
Keempat perangkat tata kelola ini
menjadi panduan dalam bekerja,
pengelolaan risiko, pengambilan

Etika dan Integritas
A
QUA Grup menerapkan
nilai-nilai Danone mengenai
aspek-aspek penting apa yang
semestinya menggerakkan
perusahaan, menjadi bagian yang
dihormati, dan menyatu dalam
kegiatan sehari-hari. Nilai-nilai
Danone juga memandu
pengambilan keputusan dan cara
pandang profesional AQUA Grup
(G4-56).
Nilai-nilai tersebut antara lain:
• Kemanusiaan, dengan saling
berbagi; bertanggung jawab;
dan hormat pada orang lain;
•
•
•
Kedekatan, yakni mendorong
kemudahan akses;
mengedepankan kredibilitas
dan empati;
Keterbukaan, melalui rasa ingin
tahu; kelincahan; dan dialog;
serta
Antusiasme, dengan
menjunjung keberanian, penuh
semangat, dan haus tantangan.
17
Ekonomi
Dampak Langsung
P
ada 2013 dan 2014, AQUA Grup
secara langsung mendistribusi
kan pengeluaran gaji karyawan,
pembayaran kepada para
pemasok, pendapatan para
pemegang saham, dan
pembayaran pajak kepada
pemerintah. Dari tahun ke tahun
pengeluaran ini terus meningkat
sejalan dengan bertambahnya
jumlah pabrik, kapasitas produksi,
dan wilayah pemasaran.
Dampak ekonomi itu semakin
besar karena peluang usaha yang
diciptakan melalui rantai pasok,

AQUA. Hingga 2014 AQUA Grup telah
menanam lebih dari dua juta pohon dari
berbagai jenis, membiakkan 323.000 tanaman
di rumah pembibitan, serta membangun 528
sumur resapan dan 23.102 biopori. Kegiatan
penanaman pohon cenderung menurun karena
berbagai faktor, antara lain semakin
terbatasnya lahan, tetapi inisiatif pembuatan
biopori terus ditingkatkan.

Sukabumi, Jawa Barat, menarik minat masyarakat
desa sekitar untuk melakukan konservasi tanaman
langka yang menghasilkan pangan dan energi
sehingga memiliki nilai ekonomis.
Sejak awal, yaitu pada 2013, AQUA Grup
merancang kebun raya mini dengan luas 4,5 hektar
dengan konsep konservasi sumber daya genetik
ex-situ (pelestarian yang dilakukan di luar habitat
aslinya). Aktivitas ini dikembangkan bekerja sama
dengan dengan Pusat Penelitian dan Pengembangan
Konservasi dan Rehabilitasi (Puskonser) Kabupaten
Bogor dan 32 warga sekitar.
Warga terlibat aktif dalam pengelolaan kebun
raya mini ini. Untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan
konservasi, warga mendapatkan pelatihan dari
Puskonser dengan difasilitasi AQUA Grup. Selain
warga, Puskonser juga memberikan pelatihan
konservasi dan budi daya tanaman ini kepada
karyawan AQUA Grup.
Di kebun raya mini, diterapkan sistem tumpang
sari yang memungkinkan warga masih tetap dapat
bercocok tanam sayuran dan palawija di sela-sela
tanaman konservasi.
Salah seorang petani, Agus, yang turut terlibat
dalam pengelolaan kebun raya mini tersebut,
menceritakan bahwa ia telah terlibat dalam aktivitas
ini sejak 2010. Agus bersama teman-teman petani
lainnya ikut menanam pohon kayu sebagai tanaman
utama. Mereka diminta merawat pohon konservasi,
sedangkan hasil panen tanaman palawija dan sayuran
menjadi milik mereka.

(Persero)/KAI melalui Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) yang ditandatangani 2012 lalu
ini, menjadi langkah progresif pengelolaan sejumlah hal terkait operasional AQUA Grup. Salah

Grup menandatangani Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) dengan Kementerian
Kehutanan untuk pengelolaan DAS dan Konservasi Keanekaragaman Hayati.
Penandatanganan MoU itu dilakukan oleh Menteri Kehutanan, Zulkifli Hasan, dan Vice
President Human Resource PT Tirta Investama, Agus Sjamsuddin, Direktur & Corporate
Secretary PT AQUA Golden Mississippi, Yanie Setionegoro, serta Direktur Utama PT Tirta
Sibayakindo, Bernas Istiqlal.
kuantitas sumber air.
AQUA Grup mengelola DAS di wilayah daerah resapan (recharge area) melalui
berbagai kegiatan konservasi, seperti penanaman dan pemeliharaan pohon,
implementasi pertanian ramah lingkungan bersama masyarakat, pembuatan lubang
Pancawati, Kecamatan Caringin, Kabupaten Bogor. AQUA Grup bersama Taman
Nasional Gunung Gede Pangrango (TNGGP) melakukan penanaman dan pemeliharaan
pohon dengan pemberdayaan masyarakat sebagai fondasinya. Difasilitasi LSM lokal,
Pancawati, terbukti tingkat pertumbuhannya tercatat mencapai 100%.

Pertanian Berkelanjutan
D
ilatarbelakangi semakin tidak
terkendalinya penggunaan
bahan kimia untuk pupuk dan
pestisida, AQUA Grup
menyelenggarakan program
pertanian berkelanjutan, dengan
mengedepankan praktik
partisipatoris. Fokus pelaksanaan
program disesuaikan dengan
konteks masing-masing wilayah,
dan metode yang dipilih adalah
sistem pertanian terpadu atau
Integrated Farming System (IFS).
Dampak yang diharapkan
adalah perubahan perilaku petani
dalam mengolah lahan secara
berkelanjutan, memproduksi
pupuk organik, serta pestisida dan
agensia hayati secara mandiri,
sehingga melepaskan
ketergantungan petani terhadap
pupuk kimia dan pestisida.
Pendekatan ini dapat menjamin
berlangsungnya peningkatan
kuantitas dan kualitas sumber air
yang murni, sehat, serta aman bagi
konsumen karena tidak tercemar
kegiatan pertanian di hulu
sumbernya.
Komitmen AQUA Grup untuk
praktik IFS antara lain dengan
mengembangkan pusat belajar
petani, penyelamatan varietasvarietas lokal padi di beberapa
wilayah, pembibitan berbasis
komunitas, pengembangan ternak
dan teknologi pertanian, serta
penguatan kelembagaan petani.
Pertanian Berkelanjutan di Klaten
G
daerah sekitarnya, termasuk Klaten.
hilir sering mengalami kesulitan air.
berkelanjutan, hingga penguatan ekonomi rumah tangga melalui
pengelolaan limbah.

terintegrasi dengan pengendalian
hama tikus dan wereng
menggunakan agensia hayati, telah
melembaga di kalangan petani
pemanfaat program. Mereka telah
memiliki kemampuan:
• Mengelola Laboratorium
Lapangan Petani dalam
melakukan pemurnian benih
padi unggul lokal, seperti
rojolele, rojo pusur, dan situ
bagendit;
• Membudidayakan agensia
hayati;
• Melakukan uji efikasi;
• Melakukan penangkaran
burung hantu (Tyto alba);
• Mengelola demplot sekolah
lapangan padi;
•
•
Mengembangkan hortikultura
dan membudidayakan
tanaman obat; dan
Mengelola rumah kompos.
Para petani di sekitar Pabrik
Klaten juga mengelola Kelompok
Simpan Pinjam. Selain itu, sudah
terbentuk kelompok petani
pengamat hama dan semakin
meluasnya kelompok kader
pertanian ramah lingkungan.
Hasilnya, selain sudah tidak
tergantung lagi pada penggunaan
pestisida dan pupuk kimia, para
petani juga terus berinovasi dalam
menekan biaya produksi.
33
Di Pabrik Wonosobo, dikenal "Kejiwan
Berkarya". Proyek ini merupakan implementasi
program integrasi pertanian berkelanjutan,
konservasi, pengelolaan sampah dan juga
WASH. Para petani di desa sekitar pabrik aktif
dalam berbagai kegiatan di Sekolah Lapang
pertanian, pelatihan, demplot pertanian
organik, pembuatan sarana produksi pertanian
dengan memanfaatkan potensi lokal,
penguatan kelompok tani lokal,
pengembangan usaha kelompok, serta
pemasaran hasil produksinya.
Pada 2013-2014 telah terbentuk empat
kelompok tani dengan total 100 anggota; 10
hektar lahan diintervensi menjadi kawasan
pertanian ramah lingkungan; tersebarnya
demplot pertanian ramah lingkungan; serta
terbentuk satu usaha pupuk cair organik
yang dipakai seluruh anggota kelompok dan
dipasarkan ke petani di luar desa.
Meningkatkan Hasil Panen dengan
Pertanian Organik
A
mengelola lahan seluas 0,75 hektar.
masing-masing 150 kg. Setelah mengikuti program pertanian

rogram pengembangan
ekonomi lokal antara lain
ditujukan untuk mengelola
tingginya harapan serapan tenaga
kerja terhadap AQUA Grup. Walau
AQUA Grup memberlakukan
kebijakan mengenai penyerapan
sumber daya lokal semaksimal
mungkin, perbandingan antrian
pelamar kerja dengan angka
kebutuhan tenaga kerja di AQUA
Grup tetap tidak seimbang.
Melalui kemitraan dengan
beragam pemangku kepentingan,
khususnya Dinas Koperasi serta
Dinas Perindustrian dan
Perdagangan di masing-masing
wilayah, AQUA Grup mendorong
pembentukan dan pengelolaan
koperasi berdasarkan usaha yang
ada dan melembaga di kehidupan
keseharian para pemangku
kepentingan.
Di Pabrik Berastagi, koperasi
mengelola keterampilan menjahit
dan beternak lele; Koperasi Tiga
Serangkai di Keboncandi
membentuk kelompok usaha batik;
Koperasi Maju Bersama di Klaten
mengelola 160 anggota; dan
Koperasi Perempuan Medan Satria
Bekasi mengelola modal bergulir,
bekerja sama dengan para
pengusaha mikro serta sejumlah
program pelatihan kewirausahaan
dan jejaring pasar. Selain koperasi,
terdapat juga inisiasi pembentukan
dan pengelolaan Kelompok Usaha

dampingan juga terjadi di banyak
lokasi pabrik lainnya yang
menjalankan program

ini ditujukan untuk kategori
sampah layak jual dan layak kreasi
menjadi alternatif peningkatan
ekonomi masyarakat.
Di Pabrik Klaten terbentuk
paguyuban pengelola sampah dan
bank sampah, masing-masing
Paguyuban Rukun Santoso dan
Bank Sampah Saras Watra, yang
aktivitasnya telah berjalan hingga

(G4-1)
Respected Stakeholders,
of 50% during 2007-2020, AQUA Group has succeeded in reducing it to 24%
in the 2007-2014 period. Specifically in 2013-2014, the decrease was 13,102
tons CO2 or about 1.53%.
The carbon footprint reduction was conducted with a number
of breakthroughs, among others through the use of train as a
transportation mode since mid 2014, to dispatch some gallon
products from Mekarsari plant. At the end of 2014, the carbon
footprint reduction through the use of trains reached 68 tons CO2.
AQUA Group also continued to strive to reduce the use of plastic.
Through this policy, AQUA Group has recorded plastic reduction at
more than 7,000 tons CO2.
During 2013-2014, AQUA Group continued to expand its social
and environmental programs by adding a variety of programs and
locations for Water Access, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), sustainable
agriculture, community-based conservation, as well as local economic
development through micro business empowerment.
This Sustainability Report also records the importance
of involving community and other stakeholders, from
planning, implementation to monitoring and evaluation
of programs, projects and activities. We work
together with many relevant and competent parties
to expand the scope of community programs.
Our commitment to sustainability will
not consistently come to reality without the
involvement and support of all parties. To
continuously improve ourselves, it is inevitable
that we have input, advice and constructive
feedback from each and every stakeholder. We
remain committed to a sustainable business in
the years ahead.

A
QUA Group would like to thank you for your enthusiasm in
participating in environmental preservation effort. We are
present not only to satisfy market demand, but to also invite all
stakeholders to get involved and experience the nature’s bounty
in a sustainable manner.
Sustainability is the linchpin of AQUA Group’s business. Since founded
in 1973, AQUA Group has focused on sustainability and water conservation,
assurance of product health and hygiene, as well as optimal contribution for
social progress. This principle corresponds with Danone’s dual commitment
initiated by its founder, Antoine Riboud. It is also in line with the principle of
AQUA’s founder, Tirto Utomo.
This report presents the achievement of AQUA Group’s vision, strategy
and sustainability performance in the past two years, 2013-2014. Aside from
conveying information on how we respond to our stakeholders’ interest, this
report also invites multi parties (business, government, civil society) to be
part of a larger effort in protecting the planet, and to contribute towards
improving the quality of life.
The entire reported performance is based on stakeholders’ feedback
and suggestions. The content illustrates the priority and the main themes
in the short and medium terms as determined by the management, in line
with AQUA Group’s business objectives.
Through this report, we expect that stakeholders will get a better
understanding on how we respond to the macro dynamics in our operations
with regards to social and economic aspects, including those related to the
government policy. However, this report has yet to fulfill all stakeholders’
expectation.
The entire content of the AQUA Group Sustainability Report 2013-2014
is based on the assessment of issues materiality and boundary as guided
by the Global Reporting Initiative Generation 4 (GRI G4). As a result,
issues materiality that has been determined, simultaneously has become a
challenge, key target and mitigation of AQUA Group in the coming years.
In 2013-2014, a number of AQUA Group’s sustainability initiatives have
come to a significant milestone. With a targeted carbon emission reduction

he business of AQUA Group
aims to meeting consumer
needs for healthy bottled water
products. In its production
process, the Company complies
with all aspects and sustainability
impacts, comprising social,
economic and environmental
areas. Considering that AQUA
Group’s products are based on
water resource, the main challenge
is its preservation, and eventually,
its social and economic impacts.
Through an integrated
management approach, based on
Danone’s philosophy of dual
commitment, AQUA Group
continued to record positive
performance in 2013 and 2014.
This performance was achieved
through the active involvement of
the internal and external
stakeholders. The operational

implementation was consistent
with the various global, national, as
well as local standards and
guidelines, where AQUA Group’s
production and distribution
facilities are located, and new
initiatives are carried out.
In facing challenges, as well as
competition of business, products
and distribution, the management
of AQUA Group synergizes in a
structured manner from the head
office in Jakarta to the factory
operations and distribution
centers. The achievement of policy
implementation and management
strategy is conducted by involving
AQUA Group’s stakeholders,
namely consumers, directlyimpacted parties, and or those
that have interest. Engagement
with stakeholders varied from
informing and communicating to
involving and cooperating.
t present, AQUA Group is
made up of three Indonesiabased companies, namely PT Aqua
Golden Mississippi (then PT
Golden Mississippi), PT Tirta
Investama and PT Tirta
Sibayakindo; as well as another
company located in Brunei
Darussalam, namely Ibic Sdn Bhd
Ltd (carrying the brand “Sehat”)
(G4-3). AQUA Group produces six
types of water bottles in the
following sizes: 240 ml (ml), 330
ml, 600 ml, 1.5 liter (l), gallons, and
glass bottles of 380 ml (G4-4). All
AQUA Group’s business operations
and production activities are
coordinated by the Jakarta head
office (G4-5).
This report only covers
Indonesia, AQUA Group’s centre of
production base (G4-6), and does
not cover Ibic Sdn Bhd. In
strengthening its business strategy,
on 4 September 1998, Danone Asia
Holding Pte Ltd joined with AQUA
Group and has now become the
majority shareholder. Danone,
based in Paris, France, is known for
its manufacture of internationalclass food and beverage (G4-7).
PT Aqua Golden Mississippi
was a public company listed in the
Indonesian Stock Market. In 2010,
it was officially became a private
company. Considering that all
companies within AQUA Group is
a private company, net sales and
total capital based on loans and
equity are not disclosed in this
report.
At present, AQUA Group is the
leader in the bottled water
business in Indonesia, with
consumers and benefactors
coming from all age groups, as
well as economic and social status
(G4-8). With its full capacity, AQUA
Group produces approximately 33
million liters of bottled water per
day in a variety of packaging sizes
(G4-9).
At the end of 2014 there were
more than 12,500 employees
working for AQUA Group,
distributed at the Jakarta head
office , 17 plants and 14 distribution
centers located throughout
Indonesia, as well as a mini plant in
Legos (Sukabumi) and Gatsu
(Denpasar). In 2013 and 2014,
AQUA Group’s permanent
employees numbered 12,131 and
12,300 respectively, and temporary
employees were 230 and 215
respectively. From these numbers,
male employees reached 10,807
(2013) and 10,944 (2014) and
female employees were 1,554
(2013) and 1,571 (2014) (G4-10).
Most employees enjoy a
permanent employment status,
with a career path and periodic
assessment determined through a
Performance Development Review
(PDR) system (G4-10). The rights

Company and and employees were
mutually agreed upon and are
formulated in the Collecitve Work
Agreement. More than 90% of the
employees are members of
Danone AQUA Group Labor Union
(SPDAG) (G4-11).
AQUA Group also facilitates
employees in the latter’s
involvement in programs that
contribute towards improvement
and change in social, economic
and environmental conservation. In
line with this, AQUA Group has
urged all of its suppliers to apply
the principle of sustainability in the
supply of goods and services as
well as business ethics through
Responsible Sourcing Programs
(RESPECT) and the application of
Ethical Data Exchange Supplier
(SEDEX).
Since 1982, water, AQUA
Group’s main raw material in the
production operations at AQUA
Group’s factories, is acquired
directly from the deep layers of
the ground, due to their natural
mineral content. Plant
management prioritizes on local
wisdom and resources. Local
suppliers are involved in the supply
chain except in the transportation
of products that still relies on third
parties (G4-12).
9
Material Aspects and Boundaries
Business stability and the
production of AQUA Group have
succeeded in making the
Company’s vision and mission into
reality, and in satisfying the needs
of customers at the same time.
Therefore, until the end of the
reporting period, there were no
significant changes to the
ownership structure, organization
and supply chain (G4-13).
In line with its vision and
mission, AQUA Group applies the
cautionary principles according to
modern management practices. The
governance practices are supported
by AQUA Lestari’s sustainability
strategy through four main pillars,
namely:
1.Preservation of water and the
environment;
2. Green practices;
3. Management of product
distribution;
4. Community involvement and
empowerment.
AQUA also involves suppliers,
employees, consumers and
partners who are active in
community empowerment and
environmental preservation to
implement AQUA Lestari’s
sustainability strategy (G4-14). The
principles of RESPECT, adopted
through SEDEX, has become an
initiative consistently implemented
by AQUA Group (G4-15).
AQUA Group has been an
active member of the Indonesian
Association of Bottled Water
Companies (Aspadin), that
represents a medium to provide
positive input to the government
and to build constructive
communication among water
bottled companies (G4-16).
Consistency in applying these
principles and initiatives has
earned appreciation from
stakeholders through various
awards and recognitions that
AQUA has received throughout
2013-2014.

T
he 2013-2014 Sustainability
Report covers three of AQUA
Group’s companies having its
headquarters in Jakarta, 17 plants
as well as 14 distribution centers
located throughout Indonesia
(G4-17). The content of this report
was determined based on risk
management analysis,
encompassing all AQUA Group
companies, plants and distribution
centers in Indonesia.
The approach used to
determine the report content
refers to principles that cover:
involvement of stakeholders;
sustainability context; materiality;
and comprehensivenes (G4-18). In
relation with risk management, the
AQUA Group has a designated
department in charge of
periodically identifying, setting up
priorities, validating and reviewing
the company’s sustainability risks.
This department is also in charge
of aspects related to risk
management, as well as cultivating
a culture and infrastructure of
internal control. In addition, it also
manages and controls
sustainability risks.
Materiality issues identified in
2013-2014 are key factors
influencing stakeholders’ views
and decision–making process
towards AQUA Group (G4-19),
comprising:

• Transportation

with experts. In addition, both
headquarters and plants have in
possession grievance management
reports from stakeholders. Input
from stakeholders are documented
and become points of
consideration in a number of key
decisions.
The identified material aspects,
which affect evaluation and the
management decision-making
process, become the responsibility
of all AQUA Group’s companies,
production lines and distribution
centers. However, to provide a
benchmark for economic, social
and environmental performance,
this report is focused on Mekarsari
and Babakan Pari plants in
Sukabumi, as well as Klaten and
Wonosobo plants (G4-20).
For stakeholders, all identified
material aspects have become the
focus of AQUA Group’s production
sites as well as distribution centers,
albeit with different priorities. The
aspects of community involvement
and empowerment, waste
management and waste water
management, are the main
concerns of all plants, whereas
transportation is of high
materiality in the plants and
distribution centers located in high
traffic density areas. Meanwhile,

AQUA Group Sustainability Strategy
T
he issue of community empowerment, transportation, WASH, dryness and
conservation, regulation, plastic waste management, as well as waste water
management, have become material issues, not only because they affect AQUA
Group’s business and decision-making process, but also because they have become
the concern and assessment of stakeholders. These issues also directly impact
AQUA Group’s business and production sustainability.
AQUA Group manages the impact of these material issues by continuously
implementing the AQUA Lestari, which is periodically and gradually evaluated, from
the policy level to technical implementation at the operational level at plants and
distribution centers. Through periodic evaluation, AQUA Group is able to revise,
strengthen and even transform the approach so that the four pillars of AQUA Lestari
can be implemented in an effective, efficient and targeted manner (G4-DMA).
The four pillars of AQUA Lestari include:
AQUA Group's truck fleet ready to dispatch products to distribution centers, Sukabumi.
become the focus of plants
located in drought-prone areas
(G4-21).
AQUA Group does not directly
manage all identified material
issues. Compliance to
transportation and safety
regulations, and the high demand
to become product distributors,
requires other business entities’
involvement. Although AQUA
Group possesses a mechanism for
monitoring and supervising the
12
performance of its partners, their
sustainability performance is not
included in this report. Therefore,
in this report, there is a
restatement of commitment and
policy related to other business
entities under AQUA Group’s
supply chain (G4-22).
Compared to the 2011-2012
period, a significant change in the
2013-2014 Sustainability Report
lies in the use of GRI G4,
superseding GRI G3.1. Under GRI
G4 guidance, material aspects rest
on stakeholders, compared to GRI
G3.1 that emphasizes on AQUA
Group’s management. From the
scope and boundaries, there has
been no significant change
throughout the reporting period
(G4-23).
Preservation of Water and the
Environment
Green Practices
AQUA Group is fully committed
to manage the water resource
sustainably. This commitment
is implemented in the form of
managing impacts of the operations,
maintain water balance, control water
quality, and manage water resources
wisely.
AQUA Group always complies with
existing laws and regulations. On the
other hand, AQUA Group also initiates
a number of water and environment
conservation programs from upstream
to downstream. Conversation efforts in
water catchment areas also contribute
to preservation of watershed in all
factory sites. Research involving water
resources, environmental education,
the rehabilitation of irrigation channels,
as well as the creation of infiltration
wells and biopori is an integral
part of AQUA Group’s initiative in
water resource management and
preservation.
All initiatives are bound in an
internal commitment in the form of
The Groundwater Resources Protection
Policy derived from Danone’s
commitment in preserving the
groundwater.
AQUA Group operates its
business by putting forward
human rights and occupational
health and safety values in line with
applicable rules and regulations. With
regards to emissions that have become
one of the global environmental
issues, the carbon footprint reduction
initiatives are conducted through
the saving of energy, water and raw
material for plastic and packaging.
Those initiatives are managed based on
the carbon emission reduction target
set by Danone and are monitored
through regular audits.
Management of Product
Distribution
AQUA Group continuously
evaluates the use of alternative
transportation modes to
distribute environmentally safe
products. The programs conducted,
among other, include the use of
trains to carry gallon products from
Sukabumi to Jakarta, transportation
management partnering with logistic
services providers, safety driving,
improvement/maintenance of roads,
as well as the management of product
distribution impacts (especially bottled
water waste) through the pemulung
empowerment program.
Community Involvement and
Empowerment
The main long-term goal of
community involvement and
empowerment programs is
to unify AQUA Group’s vision with
those of stakeholders in contributing
to sustainable development. The
implementation of this pillar is focused
on the protection and preservation of
water resources through integrated
organic farming practices, the
improvement of clean water access,
the socio-economic independence of
communities through the empowerment
of micro and cooperative-scale
businesses, as well as the expansion of
access to capital and market.

Stakeholder Engagement
A
QUA Group’s stakeholders are
classified into the following
groups: government, business, civil
society, consumers, employees and
opinion leaders (G4-24). This
classification is based on the
stakeholder mapping, updated
yearly by using the attribute
assessment of “the impacts of
stakeholders to the AQUA Group”
and “the impacts of AQUA Group
to the stakeholders” (G4-25). The
same type of mapping is applied to
issues. Therefore, AQUA Group is
able to identify issues that have
become stakeholders’ concerns.
AQUA Group builds
engagement with stakeholders by
referring to the best practices
14
presented in ISO 26000:
2010-Social Responsibility and AA
1000 Stakeholder Engagement
Standard (SES). The intensity of
engagement between AQUA
Group and stakeholders relevant
to core and material issue,
corresponds to best practices and
each stakeholder’s needs (G4-26).
During the reporting period,
the main focus of stakeholders
centered on issues related to the
preservation of water resources,
waste management, the
absorption of local manpower,
community development programs
as well as a number of AQUA
Group’s initiatives related to green
practices.
Internally, the issue of
occupational health and safety
does not stand out as AQUA
Group has already implemented a
system deemed adequate. From a
consumer’s standpoint, issues
mostly relate to the demand to
become a product distributor.
There are no issues directly related
to guarantee of product safety and
health (G4-27).
AQUA Group has determined to use GRI- G4
‘In accordance’-Core for this 2014-2015
Sustainability Report (G4-32). For this reason, in
addition to General Standard and Specific
Disclosures, the economic, environment and social
performance is also reported according to the GRI
G4 guidance.
AQUA Group does not directly obtain
assurance for 2013-2014 Sustainability Report.
However, the ISO 140001:2004 certification in
Environmental Management—acquired for the
environmental management—is a testimony to
AQUA Group’s level of compliance to the
independent global standards. AQUA Group’s top
management is involved in policy formulation,
implementation and the attainment of the
environmental performance based on the ISO
14001:2004 (G4-33).

Governance
A
QUA Group’s governance
refers to existing laws and
regulations in Indonesia. Referring
to Law No 40/2007 about Limited
Liability Companies, the highest
authority of all companies under
AQUA Group is held by
shareholders. Directors are
appointed by shareholders
through the General Meeting of
Shareholders (G4-34).
In reference to Law No 5/1995
on the Prohibition of Monopolistic
Practices and Unfair Business
Competition, throughout the
reporting period there have been
no complaints, accusations,
allegations, or indications of
monopolistic and unfair business
practices towards AQUA Group.
16
Ethics and Integrity
Since PT Aqua Golden
Mississippi, one of AQUA Group’s
companies, became a private
company and delisted itself from
the Indonesian Stock Market, AQUA
Group has instilled its companies’
values with their own standards
and protocols.
AQUA Group has consistently
implemented the Danone
Governing and Operating Process
(DANgo) to provide a clearer and
more measurable direction, while at
the same time support the safe,
efficient and sustainable business
management. Through DANgo,
every Country Business Unit (CBU)
is fully accountable for the
achievement of all aspects of
sustainability.
There are 4 DANgo derivatives
implemented in measuring the
governance of AQUA Group,
namely the Danone Internal Control
Evaluation (DICE) as an internal
control guidance; Danone
Operating Model (DOM) as a guide
for best practices in running a
business: 16 basic Danone Way
principles; and Vestalis as a risk
management guide of the
company. The four governance
tools have served a guidance in
work activities, risk management,
decision-making and performance
evaluation of all AQUA Group
employees, including the top
management executives.
A
AQUA Group implements
Danone values on key aspects
that drive the company, earning
respect and internalizing them in
daily activities. Danone’s values
also guide the decision-making
process and professional points of
view in AQUA Group (G4-56).
These values include, among
others:
• Humanity, by sharing; being
responsible and respectful of
others;
•
•
•
Approachability, that is
fostering easier access;
prioritizing on credibility and
empathy;
Openness, through curiosity;
energy and dialogs; and
Enthusiasm, by underlining
courage; spirit and thirst for
challenge.
17
Economic
Direct Impact
I
n 2013 and 2014, AQUA Group
directly distributed payment of
employee payroll, suppliers,
shareholders earnings, and taxes
for the government. Throughout
the years, these types of expenses
have seen an increase along with
the increasing number of plants,
production capacity and marketing
territories.
The economic impact became
more pronounced due to business
opportunities created through
supply chain, marketing and
product distribution throughout
Indonesia. In 2013, there were
1,806 suppliers, whereas in 2014,
there were 2,101 suppliers spread
throughout Indonesia. All of these
were directly involved in AQUA
Group’s supply chain. Of this
number, 184 suppliers were SEDEX
compliant in 2013 whereas in 2014,
the figure was 115 suppliers.
AQUA Group also allocated
cost for programs related to social
responsibility and environment in
2013-2014. These programs were
water resource conservation,
WASH, sustainable farming, local
economic development, as well as
household waste management.
The implementation performance
of these programs was
18
Indirect Impact
continuously improved with a
focus on the benefit and
involvement of various parties to
ensure the sustainability of its
positive impacts (G4-EC1).
In line with the responsibility of
providing defined benefit, AQUA
Group secures economic and
social stability by providing
retirement allowance, paid on the
basis of work period and referring
to the Collective Work Agreement.
AQUA Group also provides
assistance to employees preparing
for retirement (G4-EC3).
AQUA Group assures meeting
the basic economic and social
needs of active employees, both
permanent and contract. Every
employee is ensured to receive
compensation above regional
minimum wage. This standard of
wage is also attempted to be
applied to the entire supply chain
(G4-EC5).
In the aspect of work
opportunity and career
development, AQUA Group
prioritizes on local workforce,
including for senior management
positions. Locality is defined by
referring to the area of Indonesia.
At the management level, there
were 9 male executives and 3
female executives. Until 2013 and
2014, there were 12 expatriate
employees (G4-EC6).
Selecting Suppliers with SEDEX
I
n line with Danone’s policy with regard to sustainability initiatives, AQUA Group
engage cooperation with suppliers that are complied with regulations and
norms related to environmental and social aspects. SEDEX has become AQUA
Group’s platform in selecting suppliers fully committed towards the sustainability
principles.
There are certain criteria that suppliers must fulfill in following SEDEX. For Raw
and Pack, logistics and services suppliers, a certain transaction value or duration
of work agreement of more than a year is pre-determined. Specifically for
suppliers of promotional goods, those based at Danone’s facilities (such as safety,
cleaning, canteen services), and those providing services relevant to Danone’s
image, are required to pass SEDEX.
T
he development and
operations of AQUA Group’s
plants as well as distribution
centers provide significantly
positive contribution to the
development of local communities
and the local economy. Aside from
directly absorbing manpower,
plants and distribution centers
create a chain of economic
opportunities, from the
transportation of products by third
parties to sales at the retail level
(G4-EC7).
On the other hand, AQUA
Group’s commitment to always
create healthy products by
preserving the environment and
contributing to the economic and
social welfare of communities, is
made possible through social and
environmental programs at the
plants widely spread throughout
Indonesia. Implemented programs
not only provide benefit to the
environment but also to the
economic condition of
communities in the form of
increasing the family’s income
from the perspective of participant
and benefactors (G4-EC8).
For example, WASH program
which started in 2007, is continued
through partnerships with more
than 18 organizations in Indonesia,

organizations to cooperation with
educational institutions. In 20132014, this program helped with
clean water access for the
community in North Sumatra,
Lampung, Banten, West Java,
Central Java, East Java, Bali and
East Nusa Tenggara.
Having concern towards waste
management issue, in 2009 AQUA
Group started the Pemulung
Empowerment Program (PEP).
This program is focused on
“pemulung” (scavenging garbage
collectors), because although they
are at the bottom of the recycling
industry chain, at the same time,
they play a key role in the bottled
water industry.
Through PEP, AQUA Group
empowers the pemulung,
improving their welfare, while
reducing environmental impact
caused by disposed bottles, In
2013 and 2014, the pemulung who
joined and partnered with PEP
were able to collect 45 tons of
disposed bottles per month.

Environmental
Production Raw Materials
A
Water is the main raw material
AQUA Group’s production
process. The water volume used
depends on the availability of
water resources and refers to the
groundwater use permit issued by
the regional government at every
plant site.
Other raw materials utilized
are plastic for packaging. In 2014,
AQUA Group used more than
seven million packages of various
sizes (G4-EN1). AQUA Group
leverages the plastic bottles in the
best way possible by, for example,
no longer using plastic seals and
recycling 30% of its gallon
containers. On the other hand, all
box packaging uses recycled
materials (G4-EN2).
natural resources underlining
environmental consciousness,
including the consumption of
electricity that is becoming more
efficient each year (G4-EN6).
AQUA Group succeeded in reducing
the consumption of electricity in all
locations. In 2013, to create a
production volume of 10,867,912
kiloliters expending an energy of
279,927,667 kwh or equivalent
40.58 kwh/kbottle. While in 2014
with a volume of 11,777,838 liters,
energy consumption was at
281,015,746 kwh or equivalent 38.45
kwh/kbottle. Therefore, the energy
requirement from the production
process is inversely proportional to
the production volume (G4-EN7).

QUA Group manages the
environmental impact caused
by its business and operations by
adopting the principles of accuracy,
transparency and compliance to
existing laws and regulations. In
addition, AQUA Group also refers to
the commitment introduced by
Danone in the local and global
context with regard to human rights,
workers’ rights, environmental
protection, and eradication of
corruption.
In particular, AQUA Group has also
developed various initiatives in respect
of natural resources and environmental
protection, i.e.:
1. Integrating policies, programs,
and the implementation of each
activity which bring benefit to
nature;
2. Striving to sustainably
strengthen commitment towards
the environment and the
management of its activities,
specifically by incurring cost and
investment in the effort to reduce
ecological footprint; and
3.Providing adequate information,

planted more than two million trees of different
species, cultivated 323,000 plants in nursery
houses, and built 528 infiltration wells and
23,102 biopori. The tree planting activity
tended to decline for a variety of reasons,
among others the ever-decreasing land
availability, but the initiative to create biopori
will continue to nurture.
AQUA Group also optimizes the use of
green open land in several of its plants.
Cooperating with various parties, this area is
further developed into a mini botanical garden,
as a manifestation of directive from the
Ministry of Environment.
Total
o AQUA Group, biodiversity is not merely about
preserving rare plants and animals, but also
means creating a community learning center about
the environment. A mini botanical garden behind
Babakan Pari plant in Sukabumi, West Java, has
attracted local communities to conserve rare plants
producing food and energy so as to create economic
value.
Since the beginning in 2013, AQUA Group
designed a mini botanical garden with an area of
4.5 hectares adopting the conservation concept of an
ex-situ genetic resources (preservation done outside
the plants’ natural habitat). The activity is conducted
in cooperation with the Research and Development
Center for Conservation and Rehabilitation
(Puskonser) along with 32 surrounding community.
Residents are actively involved in the management
of this mini botanical garden. To increase knowledge
about conservation, residents get training from
Puskonser, facilitated by AQUA Group. Puskonser
also organizes conservation and cultivation training
sessions for AQUA Group employees.
In the mini botanical garden, the intercropping
system is implemented, which enables residents
to grow vegetables and second crops among
conservation plants.
A farmer by the name of Agus, involved in the
management of this mini botanical garden, reports
that he has been involved in this activity since 2010.
Agus along with his fellow farmer friends planted
wood as the main crop. They have been asked to
take care of conservation trees, while the vegetables
and secondary harvest are theirs.
Now there are some 37 types of rare trees existed
in the mini botanical garden, among other gaharu,
kidahu, bungur and jamblang. Until 2014, the total
number of plants cultivated and grown in this garden
reached 895.

taken into account by AQUA Group is
carbon dioxide (CO2), originating from the
production of genset energy (as a standby
energy source besides the use of PLNgenerated electricity) and boiler use
(G4-EN15); indirect emissions from the
purchase of PLN electricity (G4-EN16); as
well as indirect emissions originating from
the use of raw materials, packaging, and
transportation (G4-EN17).
Calculated GHG is for small Pack
Service (SPS), namely for AQUA products
measuring 240 ml, 600 ml and 1500 ml; as
well as Home Office Delivery (HOD) in the
form of 5 gallon packaging (19 liters). The
standard calculation of GHG uses the
Carbon and Water Footprint (CWFP)
version 9 made by Danone by using a
combination of references from a variety of
sources (international institutions,
associations, and scientific journals). The
increase in GHG value occurs with the
increase in production capacity and the
increase of new factories.
The intensity of GHG calculated is the
CO2 emission per liter of the product unit
(G4-EN18). The total emission intensity,
direct and indirect, is calculated towards
the emission producing component based
on the Danone Direct Responsibility (DDR).
Table 6 shows the trend of decreasing
intensity of AQUA Group’s GHG.
By using the base data of 2008, AQUA
Group has conducted some initiatives of
reducing carbon emissions. The percentage
of CO2 decrease in 2013 and 2014 can be
seen in the Graphic of CO2 Decrease Production and Distribution (G4-EN19).

Train for Product Transportation
S
ince 18 June 2014, every afternoon the activity intensifies at the Cicurug train station in
Sukabumi. The buzz of activity at dusk marks the transportation of AQUA gallon containers
to the series of train wagons.
According to the station officer, at 7.45 pm every day, eight series of wagons are scheduled to
transport AQUA products to the Ancol station in Jakarta. In the near future, the transportation is
planned to include 16 wagons.
The transportation of bottled water products by AQUA Group using the train from Jakarta
to Sukabumi is the first to be done in Indonesia. An agreement was signed with PT Kereta Api
Indonesia (Persero)/KAI through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2012. This is a
first progressive step in AQUA Group’s management of operations. One of these steps include the
strategy to reduce carbon footprint. This has proven effective. Within approximately six months,
C02 was reduced to 68 tons.
Through train transportation, 10,752 gallons of AQUA is sent to Jakarta, returning with empty
gallons the next morning. This volume is equivalent to the transportation using 12 trailers.
However, there are still challenges in using trains as a mode of transportation, among others
changing the tracks to an ideal size, fragile terrain management, and the anticipation of landslides
in some areas. By working together with the government and PT KAI, as well as with the support
of other parties, in the future AQUA Group will continue looking for solutions to resolve these
challenges.

AQUA Group maximizes its
positive impacts and minimizes the
negative impacts by managing a

variety of programs and initiatives
in line with the company’s vision,
mission and sustainability
commitment. These programs and
initiatives consist of WASH, water
resource conservation, sustainable
farming, local economic
empowerment, household waste
management, as well as other
forms of contribution that
motivate people to act more
responsibly in environmental
preservation. All programs and
initiatives are conducted in the
surrounding area of the
operational sites (G4-SO1).
The planning of social
programs is based on the needs
analysis involving stakeholder
participation and in line with the
village development plans. The
implementation prioritizes on the
principle of partnership with the
government and other key
stakeholders.
The same applies to social
programs that are not merely
implemented to mitigate risks of
operational impacts. Of all
identification processes
conducted, only product
transportation, especially in
operational sites and West Java
and East Java distribution centers,
has become a real impact and is
potentially significant towards
local communities (G4-SO2).

WASH
T
hrough cooperation with
various stakeholders, WASH is
designed as a program whose
main objective is to contribute to
the enhancement of the
community health standard
through both clean water access
and sanitation.
The main activities of WASH
are providing and managing clean
water and sanitation
infrastructures, repairing and
maintaining drainage systems, as
well as promoting a healthy
lifestyle. This behavior is driven by
a healthy environment through
stepping up green effort,
household waste management and
community assistance.
At Babakan Pari and Mekarsari
plants in Sukabumi, there are
respectively six water towers with
water storage and six units of
water wells outfitted with pumps
to provide clean water access at
Cicewol (Mekarsari Village),
Caringin (Nyangkowek Village),
Jami (Purwasari Village), Pesantren
(Babakan Kaum Cicurug Village).
In addition, there are 2 water
storage bins, and a 3 meter piping
system for clean water access at
Jabon (Tangkil Village), Cidahu. All
of these facilities can meet the
needs of over 527 heads of family.
The management of all of these
facilities is already handled by the
community. In addition, the repair
of bathroom facilities, cleaning of
toilets and drainage are managed
through collaborative effort.
At Klaten, Wonosobo and
Subang plants, WASH is focused
on the development of sanitation
facilities such as a communal
septic tank, equal access to clean
water and the repair of public
bathing, washing and toilet
facilities. The WASH program in
Subang has managed to provide
clean water access to 300 heads
of family and promote healthy and
clean living behavior for 50 heads
of family.

Water Resource
Conservation
Watershed Integration Management
W
ater resource conservation
in the water catchment area
is prerequisite for AQUA Group.
The conservation program that
involves communities as the main
actors, aims to preserve and
ensure that all principles for
sustainable water management are
adhered to. In its implementation,
the mutual planning between
AQUA Group and communities are
conducted to determine the
location and type of plants that are
going to be cultivated.
Conservation program will be
innovative when streamlined with
natural preservation effort and the
increase of communities’ income.
Therefore, the kind of plants
selected consists of wood and
fruits of high economic value, such
as mangosteen, rambutan,
mangoes and “kristal” rose apples .

MoU signing with the Ministry of Forestry, Zulkifli Hasan, for watershed management and
biodiversity conservation.
I
n commemoration of the The World Day to Land Degradation, 17 June 2014,
AQUA Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Forestry
Ministry for the management of waterhed and the conservation of biodiversity.
The signing of the MoU was conducted by the Forestry Minister, Zulkifli Hasan and
Vice President of Human Resources of PT Tirta Investama, Agus Sjamsuddin, Director
and Corporate Secretary of PT AQUA Golden Mississippi, Yanie Setionegoro, as well
as President Director of PT Tirta Sibayakindo, Bernas Istiqlal. Aside from AQUA Group,
Toyota Astra and Holcim Indonesia have also extended their commitment to this mutual
conservation program.
Through this cooperation, The Ministry of Forestry and AQUA Group have agreed
to develop and implement the conservation program achieved through community
empowerment and the involvement of stakeholders in the watershed area. The main
objective is to maintain the quality and quantity of water resources.
AQUA Group manages watershed in recharge areas through a variety of conservation
activities, such as the cultivation and maintenance of trees, the implementation of
environmentally friendly farming with communities, the creation of biopori holes,
embung ponds (dam), as well as infiltration wells. All of these activities are conducted
with the local as well as central government, communities, non-governmental
organizations, and stakeholders located in these areas.
One of many integrated partnerships is the conservation initiative at the Pancawati
Village of the Caringin District of Bogor Regency. AQUA Group with the Gunung Gede
Pangrango National Park conducted tree cultivation and maintenance with community
empowerment as the foundation. Facilitated by local NGOs, communities are educated
and provided with social, economic and environmental skills.
The community involvement and empowerment initiatives are conducted to ensure
that planted trees will grow. Of 1,200 trees planted in Pancawati, it is proven that the
growth rate was recorded at 100%..

Sustainable Agriculture
D
riven by the increasingly
uncontrolled use of chemicals
as fertilizers and pesticide, AQUA
Group has organized a sustainable
farming program by putting
forward participatory practices.
The focus of the program
implementation is adapted
according to the context of each
area, and the selected method is
the Integrated Farming System
(IFS).
The expected impact is that
there is behavior change in
farmers in managing land
sustainably, independently
producing organic fertilizer as well
as pesticides and biodiverse
agents, so that farmers no longer
use chemical fertilizers and
pesticides. This approach can
ensure the increased quality and
quantity of pure, clean and healthy
water resource for consumers
because it is not contaminated by
farming activities at the upstream
level of its source.
AQUA Group’s commitment
towards IFS practices is shown
among others through the
development of farmer learning
centers, the effort to save rare,
local rice grain seed in a number of
areas, the community-based
nursery, the development of
livestock and farming technology,
as well as the strengthening of
farmer associations.
Sustainable Farming in Klaten
M
ount Merapi is a blessing to many farmers in Klaten, Central Java.
Volcanic ash and a rainfall that reaches 3,000 millimeters per year, has
given birth to fertile soil and water reserve availability for surrounding areas,
including in Klaten.
For many decades, Klaten has been known as one of Java’s main
“granaries” (food source). This is more prevalent as farmers were driven to
increase its production capacity, by using non-organic fertilizer on a massive
scale. The problem is, the continuous use of man-made fertilizers and
chemical remedies will “exhaust” the nutrients from the soil and will only be
fertile for a limited time.
Other problems also crop up with the onset of the dry season. Farmers in
the downstream areas also face water shortage. The reason is not only that
the Merapi area is not able to store water as a result of deforestation, but also
because of the poor maintenance of irrigation systems.
Klaten plant, along with the local government, civil community groups, and
farmers, together respond to farming problems in Klaten with the introduction
of sustainable farming programs. These programs are focused on the granting
of capital by strengthening micro-level financial institutions and farmer
capacity-building activities to practice a sustainable farming model.
Through this program, along with AQUA Group, farmers carry out irrigation
repair, develop integrated and sustainable farming, and even fortify the
household economy through waste management
.

The positive impact of healthy
farming and in harmony with
nature is the increase of farm
products, lower spending on
fertilizers, and better market
access, which will all, in turn,
increase the farmers’ income.
Cianjur, Ciherang, Sukabumi,
Subang, Klaten, Pandaan,
Keboncandi, Brastagi and Mambal
plants have implemented such
sustainable agriculture program.
Until 2014, the program
implemented at Klaten plant has
reached the stage of increasing
the community income through
sustainable farming practices.

integrated with the control of pest
and wereng using biological
agents, has become
institutionalized among farmers
who have taken advantage of the
program. They have the capacity
to:
• Manage the farmer field lab in
purifying the prime seed of
rice such as rojolele, rojo pusur
and situ bagendit;
• Cultivate biological agents;
• Conduct efficacy studies;
• Quarantine owls (Tyto alba);
• Oversee rice paddies in
schools;
• Develop horticulture and
cultivate medicinal plants; and
• Manage a compost house.
Farmers surrounding Klaten
plant have also managed a microloan group ‘Kelompok Simpan
Pinjam’. In addition, groups of
farmers have been formed to
observe pests. There is an everincreasing group of
environmentally friendly farmers.
As a result, aside from being free
from the use of pesticide and
chemical pesticides, farmers also
continuously innovate to reduce
production cost.

At Wonosobo plant, a program known as
“Kejiwaan Berkarya” is implemented for a
sustainable integrated farming program,
conservation, waste management and WASH.
Farmers in the villages surrounding the plant
actively participate in various activities at the
farmers field school, such as training, organic
farming demo plots, the creation of farming
production facilities by exploiting local
potential, the empowerment of local farming
groups, as well as the marketing of its products.
In 2013 and 2014, there were four farmers
groups with a total of 100 members: 10 hectares
of the land has been created into
environmentally friendly farming areas. In
addition, there are environmentally friendly
farm plots scattered about and one organic
fertilizer business. The liquid organic fertilizer
has been used by all group members and
marketed to farmers outside the villages.

Increasing Harvest through
Organic Farming
A
gus Abu Kobar is a farmer in Lapang, Gekbrong Village,
Cianjur, West Java, who has received assistance from AQUA
Group’s sustainable farming activities at Cianjur plant. As a
farmer, he manages a land of 0.75 hectares.
Prior to joining sustainable farming, Agus used a seed
volume of 50 kg as well as urea fertilizer and compound
fertilizer at 150 kg respectively. After the program, the harvest
increased from 15 quintals to 40 quintals per planting season,
whereas the price of unhulled paddy increased from Rp 3,500
per kilograms to Rp 4.000-Rp 4500 per kilogram since the
rice yield has increased.
Agus’ achievement proves that organic farming conducted
in line with environmental preservation is also able to provide
economic benefit to farmers

Local Economic Development
Household Waste Management
L
T
ocal economic development
program is aimed to manage
the high expectation towards
manpower absorption in AQUA
Group. Although AQUA Group has
implemented a policy on the
absorption of local manpower as
best as it can, the reality is there is
an imbalance number between job
applicants waiting for an opening
at AQUA Group and AQUA
Group’s needs.
Through the partnership with
various stakeholders, especially
the local Offices of Cooperatives
and Trade and Industry, AQUA
Group has initiated the
establishment and management of
a cooperative based on the
businesses and institutions already
existed among stakeholders.
At Berastagi plant,
cooperatives manage sewing skills
and the farming of lele catfish; the
Tiga Serangkai Cooperative in
Keboncandi has established the
batik business group; the Maju
Bersama Cooperative in Klaten
manage 160 members; and the
Perempuan Medan Satria Bekasi
manage working capital, in
cooperation with micro-level
entrepreneurs, aside from
managing other business training
programs and marketing network.
Aside from cooperatives, there are
initiatives to form and manage
Makanan Ringan Sarasa business
group in Subang. Business groups
at the assisted community level are
also found in many other factory
sites that conduct local economic
development programs.
hrough a partnership with the
local government and
communities, AQUA Group
facilitated the establishment of a
business group to manage
household waste. By applying the
3R principles (Reduce, Reuse and
Recycle), this program is aimed for
saleable waste or creation-worthy
waste, which could become an
alternative to enhance the
community’s economic
opportunities.
At Klaten plant, a waste
management organization and a
waste bank were formed; Rukun
Santoso Group and Sampah Saras
Watra Waste Bank, respectively.
The range of activities has reached
purchasing stage. Until 2014, there
are more than 70 heads of family
whose household waste is
managed by Rukun Santoso.
At Wonosobo plant, Mpok
Darsih (kelompok sadar bersih or
cleanliness-conscious group) is
formed. The group is managed by
those who have left school. Mpok
Darsih intends to convert waste
into a “blessing”. Aside from
acquiring economic benefit
through the sorting and
management of repurposed waste,
Mpok Darsih also develops the
management and sale of organic
fertilizer produced from household
waste.
