Time Fishing on Saturday, Nov. 6 and be part of a Hawg Quest

The Steelhead Derby also features a youth essay contest
sponsored by Clearwater Power. The two lucky high school
students who won the essay contest will get to enjoy a day of
fishing with Nate Luther’s Guide Service. Hawg Quest will be
also be onboard filming.
The closing awards ceremony will be held Nov. 13 from 5 – 8 PM
at Vern Eide Subaru. The celebration will include door prizes,

raffle drawings and a silent auction with some great musthave items for all anglers. The overall weekly winners and daily
winners will be announced. The Grand Prize winner will be

LCYP Working with Tri-State Hospital
Tri-State Hospital Foundation is putting on a new event during Festival of Trees: Christmas Lights &
Cocktail Nights on Wednesday, November 24 from 6 - 10 pm.
Not only did LCYP member Jordan Woodbury win the naming contest for the new event, and win two
tickets, the new committee is made up almost entirely of LCYPers. So, Christmas Lights and Cocktail
Nights is the obvious choice for LCYP’s November event.
Tickets are $30 and includes gourmet hors d’oeuvres, two beverage tickets and a gift to take home.
Stone House Coffee Co. will be on site if you need a little pick-me-up and a fully-stocked cash bar will be available as well. Guests can choose to take part
in activities such as great drawings and a photo booth- you may even capture the perfect snapshot for your Christmas card! Santa will be on site to join in
the fun and may even be willing to sit in on your photo session with you. Special thanks to PhotoBooth Fun by Annie Holt for providing this fun activity
for our guests!

Clearwater Snake Steelhead Derby, Interlink Volunteers Gingerbread Days and the Hells Gate State Park Haunted Hayride. Thanks everyone!

2010 Hells Canyon Boat Club Lighted Boat Parade
The Hells Canyon Boat Club is proud to present the 2010 Lighted Boat Parade on Saturday, November 27 at 4:30 PM. The parade will begin at the
Southway Bridge, motoring north to the Blue Bridge on the Lewiston side of the river. The parade will then head back down to the Southway Bridge on
the Clarkston side of the river.
The Hells Canyon Boat Club hopes to have approximately 30 boats this year, up from just over 20 participants in the previous year. Each boat should be
equipped with fun and exciting holiday decorations.
Boat entry is free, although you do need to fill out an entry form so the Boat Club can have an accurate count of boats. For more info or to sign up,

The Countdown
The countdown has begun for the Valley-wide Chamber. Multiple weekly meetings are taking place to design a dues
structure, budget, bylaws, staffing needs and our marketing plan.
The dues committee has been working tirelessly to ensure an equitable structure; some will see a slight price increase,
some won’t see a change at all and others will see a reduction in their rate. We have found that with working together
and evaluating the pros and cons of the existing structures, we were able to work with the strengths each possessed
and are confident you will be pleased with the final product.
The budget committee truly has their work cut out for them. Cutting down on the number of monthly events in an
effort to increase attendance and reduce duplication of efforts was a primary goal of this group. This will be a process
and the right people for the job are on this committee.

The bylaws committee is doing amazing work with creating our new bylaws: seeking balance between the two states,
finding just the right number of people to serve on the board, realigning the duties and titles of board members and staff,
just to name a few.
The marketing committee has the high energy side of the process and has the fun job of recommending the new name, website, logo,
marketing materials, marketing efforts, etc. Having so many creative minds in one room, all with the common goal of making a good chamber great,
really sets the stage for awesomeness.
So, as of today, I look at our mighty checklist of all of the things that were before us a month ago and I am pleased with how much we have
accomplished. We have a two short months to get the legal pieces wrapped up, board approval of all of the work the committees have been doing
and then we will hit the ground running with your Valley-wide Chamber.
I’m looking forward to many great things ahead and the positive impact this will have on our members and community.

Thank you for the opportunity to work with your organization in supporting the 2010 RoundUp Ride of Cycle Oregon in Clarkston. I am proud of the job my volunteers did and I want
you to know how impressed they were with your staff, the Cycle Oregon staff, and the riders.
At a Clarkston Lions meeting soon after the event, our members gave numerous, glowing
testimonials to the very positive experience they had. It was just fun to be around others
having fun and being told how much our efforts were appreciated.
As you may already know, the Lions organization is dedicated to helping individuals with
sight and hearing problems. The money raised through our efforts at this event will be used
to help other in this valley. Thank you again for including us and letting us show others how
wonderful the city of Clarkston is.

Chamber members had the opportunity to hear from Pam Stein with Clarkston Education Foundation. The
Clarkston Education Foundation’s mission is to promote and enhance education in Clarkston schools. Pam
said the Foundation feels it is a community responsibility to help provide a quality education to all students.
Pam shared with Chamber members the successes with their Scholarship and School Mini-Grants as well
as other programs created and funded by local donors. To help Clarkston Education Foundation “Target

Chamber members also had the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for Interlink Volunteer’s first ever
Gingerbread Days fund-raiser. During the month of October Interlink raffled off donated Gingerbread
Houses at various community events. The funds raised will go to support the services provided by Interlink

Ribbon Cuttings
The Lewiston & Clarkston Chamber Ambassadors and Board members have been busy for the last couple weeks with ribbon cuttings! Here is what
we’ve been up to...
On Thursday, September 23 Clarkston City Hall open their doors at their new location, 829 5th St. in Clarkston. The ribbon cutting was followed by an
open house of the gorgeous new building.
We celebrated the grand opening of Rapid Refill on Tuesday, October 12. Be sure to stop by and check out their new location at 1714 G Street in
Lewiston.
Thursday, October 14 marked the grand opening of ...and BOOKS, too! They’ve recently moved locations and can now be found at 918 6th Street in
Clarkston. They’ve got something for everyone!
A ribbon cutting was held on Wednesday, October 20 at Cedars Inn, 1716 Main St. in Lewiston. They’ve remodeled their rooms and have great rates!

Keeping Winter Outside

With winter fast approaching, now is the time to make sure your home is energy ready. When it’s
cold outside, it may be too late to do some measures like caulking that can help you save energy
during winter and help keep you comfortable inside.
Homes breathe and move, so caulking that is several years old may have pulled away from
surfaces because of wind, rain and temperature changes. Look for old caulk that needs replacing,
then re-caulk around windows, doors and other places where two dissimilar materials meet up.
Make sure that insulation in your crawl space has not dropped from the floor above, ductwork in
unconditioned parts of your home is sealed and insulated, and water pipes are insulated and
freeze protected.
If you don’t have insulated windows, consider using plastic to create exterior storm windows by
tacking it to exterior window trim with a thin trim strip. Make sure to caulk the window so infiltration
will not cool your home. A do-it-yourselfer can do this for less than $10 per window. How do you
know if the infiltration is bad? Do you feel air coming in a window? Can you hear everything
outside as if the window is open? Do you avoid sitting near the window in the winter because it is
too uncomfortable? You will not only lower your energy use if you fix it, you will also have a more
comfortable home.
An easy way to check for leaks around doors is to have someone run a flashlight around the
exterior door jam at night while you stand inside in the dark. If you see light, fix or add weatherstripping in that location. Also, think about anything added to your home during the year that may
have penetrated walls, and fill in those penetrations.
If your attic is well ventilated and insulated, you will be less likely to have ice dams build up on
eves. Clean out your gutters so water doesn’t get trapped and freeze. Make sure they have not
sagged, so melting snow and winter rain can drain properly.
To save additional money, check with your local energy provider on energy efficiency rebates they
may offer. Also, state rebates and federal tax credits may be available for energy efficiency
upgrades to your home.

Claim Your Business Listing on Google - It’s FREE
It’s not that the phone book is dead, it’s just that people are searching for information differently. These days, most Americans turn to the internet
before they grab a copy of the local phone directory. As a businesses owner, you need to make certain that your internet based information is up to date
and easily accessible. In addition to a webpage or blog and branded social platforms, claiming the listings that make up your digital footprint lets you
have some control in how your business is presented on the internet.
According to Comscore’s latest report, Americans used Google search over 10 billion times in August 2010. Many of these searches resolved with a
Google Places listing for businesses that provided what the searcher was looking for. Claiming your Google Places page (formerly Google Local Business
Center) is a smart place to start. Does your business have a Google Places listing? You can find it by searching for your Business Name and Location with
Google Search. If your business isn’t listed, don’t panic – you can register and create a listing from scratch, at Google Places!
After you make changes to an existing listing or create a new listing, Google will verify that you are an authorized representative by calling you or post
mailing you a code to enter on your Google Places Dashboard. The process is simple, but if you have questions or need some help, just ask, I’ll walk you
through it in minutes.
Once you have control of your Google Places page you can use it to promote your business for free:

Post a special (with a tracking code) that will be visible near the top of your listing for 30 days.
•
Add up to 10 images of your products or your business so that people can find you more easily.
•
Designate up to 5 categories that your business falls under so that your business appears in refined search results.
•
Take advantage of the free coupon option.
Use the dashboard to learn more about the search results your listing appears in:
•
See how many times your listing has been viewed in search results.
•
Track how many people have clicked through to the listing from the search results page.
•
Monitor what terms people searched that resulted in your business listing appearing.
•
See the number of times people saw your business listing in the search results for top search terms.
This is just the beginning; there is much more you can do with Google Places, and there are other free business listings on the internet that you’ll want to
claim. GetListed.org is a good tool for finding them.

Clarkston and Lewiston Chamber
Memberships Approve Merger
The Clarkston and Lewiston Chambers’ memberships approved the merger of the
two chambers on Sept. 30. Every Chamber member in good standing received a
ballot in September with the opportunity to vote Yes or No on the merger.
Four hundred and thirty three ballots were returned with over 92 percent of
both chambers voting yes. One hundred and fifty seven ballots were returned by
Clarkston Chamber members and 276 from Lewiston Chamber members.
According to the Washington and Idaho Nonprofit Corporation Acts, two-thirds of
the ballots returned by each chambers’ memberships needed to vote in favor of the
development of a single Valley-wide chamber. Clarkston voters were in favor of the
merger with an 89.8 percent approval rate and Lewiston voters with a 94.2 percent
approval rate.
The ballots were counted by Tami Randall, Clarkston Chamber President, Lewiston
Chamber President Joe Arellano, Dave Pankey, Lewiston Chamber Vice President, Su
Brown of Su Brown and Associates, and Tom Ledgerwood of Law Office of Thomas
Ledgerwood.
