We are rapidly approaching the second half of Term 4 and are looking forward to the many special events
York Public School will be hosting. We would also like to remind parents that information on coming events
is easily available on our Facebook page, our Website and Term Planner.
Our Kindergarten students visited the Sydney Aquarium yesterday and had a fantastic day. This follows
the wonderful experience our Year 3 and 4 students had attending their ZoosnooZ last month and the great
reports received upon their return.
York On Show is approaching very quickly and there is much anticipation around the performances. I am
aware that our York on Show tickets sold out much quicker than anticipated for the evening performances
but would like families to be aware there are still seats available for our matinee performances. We are
sincerely sorry for any upset this has caused some families and while it is no consolation for those families
who missed out on evening performances, we will examine improved ways of providing opportunities to
view the evening performances in future years. Mr Hill would like to add “We apologise that you were
unable to get tickets to the night shows. The speed with which these tickets sold was unprecedented and
far exceeded any expectations or previous patterns. We will be taking steps in future years to ensure as
much opportunity as possible for all parents to purchase tickets. We are sure you can understand the
difficulties in creating an equitable system where all parents have the opportunity to see their child perform,
whilst not overburdening students and families with too many nights out. We have previously looked into
taking the shows offsite, but the logistics and extra cost of this make it unviable.
If anyone has purchased extra tickets to the night shows, or is attending multiple performances, and they
would be willing to re-sell their tickets for an evening show to people who missed out, we ask that you may
be able to organise this through Facebook. This would be greatly appreciated and is evidence of the
community that makes York a fantastic school. Thank you for your understanding.”
We have two more Kindergarten 2016 transition mornings – this week and next. If you or friends and
family have a child due to start Kindergarten in 2016, and have not yet enrolled in school, please do so as
quickly as possible so that they can be included in the transition program.
A successful P & C morning meeting was held yesterday and was happy to see the change of time allow
some new faces and a good size group attend. This week the P & C committed to purchasing over
$10,000 worth of technology for our classrooms. This along with our Gonski funding has resulted in every
child in every room having access to more of these 21st Century Learning tools in our classrooms.

STUDENT LEAVE – HOLIDAYS & SICK
HOLIDAYS – If you are planning on taking your child
out of the school on vacation for 5 days or more an
‘Exemption from Attendance’ form is required to be
filled in and returned to school prior to your trip. You
will be required to take this away with you.
SICK – If your child is away from school because of
illness, it is a requirement that an absence note be
written and given to their teacher upon their return.
Alternatively, you can telephone the school informing
us of their absence and the teacher will be notified.

First seal Murphy came out and he was a star. He
dived under the water and he acted out the life of a
seal. We were educated about the fact that humans
we are destroying their home by littering and over
fishing. It’s getting really hard for seals in the wild.
Two other seals called Mitchy and Troy performed
some outstanding tricks such as holding their own
body weight, they are exceptionally talented animals.
Everyone left dripping wet!
6BR’s Special Taronga Zoo Day
There’s this girl in my class. She doesn’t always talk
a lot because she can be shy. Her name is Tanayah.
She expresses herself by painting beautiful aboriginal
dot paintings. Mrs Robins decided to enter her in a
bird drawing competition. She had to draw a bird,
write a poem and send it in the mail for Taronga
Zoo’s consideration for their annual BIRD BANNER
COMPETITION. Tanayah would win her and her
whole class a FREE trip to the ZOO!!
6BR saw Tanayah’s dot paint artwork and we were
convinced she would win. We waited, and waited,
and waited weeks for the email to arrive saying “Congrats Tanayah won!” But the email didn’t come
on time. Finally we got the email after a Friday
assembly at 2:58pm and we couldn’t have been more
excited. We were all jumping up and down and
hugging each other. 6BR ARE REALLY GOING TO
THE ZOO!!!
Next on the agenda was Taronga’s Bird Show and
types of birds flew just centimetres from our heads.
The zoo keeper gave a special mention to Tanayah
and the whole crowd applauded. Also, thanks to
Tanayah we got to go behind the scenes tour of the
bird show. A lot of effort is required to make the bird
daily food diet. Spinach and other leafy greens have
to be sliced finely every single day. They showed us
the dead baby mice that they feed to the eagles, ew!
We held meal worms that were alive! They wriggled
and squirmed, it felt like a hand massage. IT WAS
GROSS!
On the bus there, the girls played music and sang.
Everyone was pumped to not have to be doing Maths
and English. Once we got there I stepped out of the
bus expecting a cool wind to breeze through my hair
kind of making me look like a model, but instead I got
blasted with hot stifling air making me look like a
sweaty pig!
We got to check out the gift shop on the way back to
the bus. We were finished for the day and it was an
incredible experience. It made me realise that I want
to work at the zoo one day because I’m so
passionate about saving animals. Thanks Tanayah,
because you followed your dream it’s made me
realise mine.
As soon as we got in the zoo we headed for the Seal
Show right before Tanayah’s awesome banner stared
straight at us all. It was so wonderful to be with
Tanayah when she saw her own artwork displayed all
around the zoo, on huge banners. She is kind of
famous there now. We got a little lost looking at
elephants, giraffes and goats on roofs.
We
eventually got to the Taronga Zoo’s Seal Show. The
view was AMAZING we were in the Splash Zone!
We could see the Harbour Bridge and the Opera
house. We sat in our V.I.P. seats, courtesy of
Tanayah. The instructors
told us that if we sit at the
front
we
would
get
splashed, but I was fine
with it because it was
boiling hot!

Raffle tickets will be sent home at the beginning of

we will also have a Christmas meat and cake raffle.
These tickets can just be purchased on the night.
FETE - WE HAVE A DATE
The P & C committee are pleased to announce the

40 Anniversary York Public School fete will be held

on the 22 October, 2016. Thank you to Kelly Ongley
who has taken on the position as the Fete coordinator. Early planning has begun and rides have
already been booked for this day. Exciting and busy
times ahead! This is why we are always in need of
more volunteers to assist with planning and having
good ideas. If you can assist please come along to a
fete meeting or leave your contact details with the
office staff and let us know how you can help in any
other way.
