1. Required Circumstances
To install SQL Express, below service pack or higher version must be rupdated.
Windows Server 2003 with ServicePack 1
Windows XP Professional with ServicePack 2
Windows 2000 Professional with ServicePack 4
Windows Vista
Windows 7
Windows 2008
2. Required program before proceed SQL Express
To install SQL Express, below programs must be installed . If your PC does not have one of
them, please install first.

2.1 MDAC 2.8 Installation
From installation CD, execute MDAC_TYP.EXE in SQL Express folder to install MDAV 2.8.
Please follow below procedures.
Accept the agreement and click Next.
Click Finish, then it starts installation.
After installation, the system reboots.

2.2 Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 Installation
From installation CD, execute WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe in SQL Express folder to install Windows Installer.
Please follow below procedures.
Click Next.
Check “I Agree” and click Next, then it starts installation.
Click Finish to installation.

2.3 .Net Framework 2.0 Installation
From installation CD, execute dotnetfx.exe in SQL Express folder to install .Net Framework 2.0.
Please follow below procedures.
Click Next.
Check the acceptance and click Install.
Click Finish to installation.

3. SQL Express Installation
From installation CD, there are two different files depending on languages. For English users, please proceed with
SQL Express\SQLExpressEn.
There are 3 files.
- En_sql_2005_express_adv.exe : SQL Express installation program
- sqlExpressSetup.bat : Batch file to install SQL Express automatically using SQL basic setting
- sqlSetting.ini : Setting file for SQL auto installation

3.1 Setting file path modification
Before installation, you must modify setting file past for automatic installation.
Right click sqlExpressSetup.bat file and click [edit].
Memo is opened, please modify the path to the file with sqlSetting.ini.
Ex> If you copy installation CD SQLExpress folder to D:
Change “C:\SQLExpressKo\sqlSetting.ini” to “D:\SQLExpress\SQLExpressKo\sqlSetting.ini” and then save.

3.2 SQL Express administrator password change
SQL Express has basic administrator called “sa”.
Password is set as 12345 as initial setting, you need to modify setting file as following.
Right click sqlSetting.ini and click open.
Memo is opened, please change sa password (SAPWD=12345).
Ex> You need to change to password 1111.
Change SAPWD=12345 to SAPWD=1111 and save.

3.3 Installation starts
Execute SqlExpressSetup.bat to start installation.
Please follow below procedures..

3.4 Double Check your Installation
This is to check your SQL Express installation.
Program >>> Microsoft SQL Server 2005 >>> execute SQL Server Management Studio Express.
Input the password( it is set as 12345) and click “Connect”.
If you succeed, you will see the screen as above. Otherwise, you have failed.

4. FAQ
- When you see below boxes,
Your PC is not Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 installed. Please install Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 using
WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe in the installation CD.
Your PC is not .Net Framework 2.0 installed. Please install .Net Framework 2.0 using notnetfx.exe in the installation
CD..

- During installation, program compatibility assistant window pops up.
Please click “Run Program”.
-During SQL installation, when SQL Native Client is failed to set up.
Control panel >>> Program install / uninstall >>> Please uninstall these two files.
