WELCOME TO PORCHESTER HALL
History
The Porchester Hall was opened in 1929 alongside the Turkish Baths and Library on Porchester Road. It provided the Borough of
Paddington with a dignified Public Hall intended primarily for use by the residents in the area, its beauty and convenience proving to
appeal to a wider circle. The Hall was available for concerts, as well as drives, banquets, dances, receptions and meetings.
The foundation stone was laid by the Mayor Leonard Snell, JP, and this can be found at the Halls main entrance.
The Main Hall
The striking exterior of the hall sets the standard for the rest of the building. Portland Stone and Cornish granite were used for the main
structure and entrance steps of the hall with teak woodwork and bronze metalwork around the windows forming the details.
The grand entrance to the Hall is ideal for reception drinks and leads guests up the elegant staircase with its ornamental bronze and
wrought iron banisters, striking marble walls and crystal chandelier. The stairway leads through to the main hall on the first floor. (Toilets
and cloakroom are provided at the base of the main entrance in the basement.)
The Hall walls are handsomely panelled in English oak and walnut, with luxurious rich crimson velvet drapes. Fascinating figurines and
motifs support the main beams and ten magnificent crystal chandeliers hang from the fine ceiling. The Hall is amply suited for all sizes of
functions with the perfect dance floor made of sprung oak parquet.
At one end of the hall the oak panelled stage provides a perfect setting for any band and features a fantastic art deco skylight,
ornamental brass panelling and the Borough of Paddington coat of arms.

The Small Hall
Situated at the ground floor of the building just before the entrance to the Main Hall, the Small Hall is a quaint room with charming “old
– world” atmosphere. The space enjoys the same attractive wood panels, while 6 large windows provide plenty of natural light. With
a separate entrance the small hall is perfect for intimate events, family occasions and workshops or it can be hired as part of the main
space and used as a reception area or production office.
The Paddington Suite
Recently renovated, the suite is an attractive room adjacent to the Main Hall. The space combines classic surrounding with state-of-theart presentation technology to make an ideal meeting room. The Paddington Suite can also serve as an elegant bar or catering area and
is often used as a break out room during conferences.

DON’T JUST TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT...
“On behalf of Key4Life I would like to write and thank you enormously for your most generous support towards our Gala Dinner on
Wednesday 18th March 2015.
Your wonderful support will go towards helping some of the most marginalised young people in the UK onto a positive new path.
We will keep you posted on the progress of the charity.”
“A thoroughly enjoyable experience with very professional staff”
“I wanted to say a huge thank you for making Friday/Saturday possible, the filming went better than we could have imagined and will
make a brilliant episode. Please pass on our thanks to all of your staff, everyone was so helpful and welcoming.”
“I wanted to wish you a Merry Christmas and thank you again for all the help you gave to us in running UCLU Hindu Society event at
Porchester Hall. It was a very successful event for us and it would not have been so without your help”
