With over 8,100 stores in 46 states and the District of Columbia,
Family Dollar is the nation’s second largest dollar store. The company
also operates nine distribution centers that are each over 900,000 SF.
Family Dollar targets women shopping for a family earning less
than $40,000 a year. Consumables (food, health, beauty aids, and
household items) account for about two-thirds of sales. Family Dollar
also sells apparel, shoes, and linens.

Family Dollar stores are low-format and are located in low and middleincome rural and urban areas. Most goods and groceries (national
brands, Family Dollar private labels, and unbranded items) are sold
at a variety of discounted prices, the majority of which are under $10.
For the fiscal year ending August, 2014, sales were $10.49 billion, net
income was $284 million, and net worth was $1.67 billion.
In January 2015, Family Dollar shareholders approved being bought
by Dollar Tree Inc. The new merger plans to keep both brands and
operate both separate dollar store models and will probably take
effect in May.

ABOUT
CEDARTOWN, GA
Cedartown is the county seat of Polk County and the
principal city of the Cedartown Micropolitan Statistical
Area. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population
of 9,750. The Cedartown Commercial Historic District is
listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Due to the expansion of U.S. Highway 27, Cedartown
is easily connected to nearby cities such as Atlanta,
Birmingham, and Chattanooga. The nearest major
airport is Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International, which
is about 70 miles southeast.
