SEA ISLAND, GEORGIA
SEA ISLAND, GEORGIA THINGS TO KNOW CLIMATE Sea Island’s location along the Atlantic Coast ensures beautiful weather year-round. Winters are moderate with highs in the 60s and low 70s and summers are warm with highs in the 80s and 90s. GETTING THERE Sea Island Resort and the Cloister Hotel are located on the coast, 30 minutes from Brunswick Golden Isles Airport (BQK). You can also fly into Jacksonville, Florida (JAX), or Savannah, Georgia (SAV), both about 90 minutes from Sea Island. We recommend renting a car for getting to Sea Island but your Personal Vacation Advisor can arrange private transportation if you prefer. GETTING AROUND Since your residence is located just steps from all that Sea Island has to offer – including the convenient resort shuttle – renting a car is not absolutely necessary. However, there are a number of interesting things to see and do on St. Simons Island, so you might want to consider renting a car for at least a day or two. If you do decide to rent a car once you've arrived, your concierge can arrange to have one delivered to your residence. PARKING Complimentary parking is available at your residence. CHECK IN/ARRIVAL PROCESS Your concierge will greet you at your residence, where you will check in. If you plan to arrive with multiple cars, let your concierge know so that the correct number of gate passes can be arranged. If you arrive prior to the standard check-in time of 4 p.m., you can enjoy all of Sea Island’s amenities, such as the beach club and spa (both of which offer showers and changing facilities), and your concierge will call you when your residence is ready. Be sure to provide your best contact number during the planning process. QUICK FACTS ADDRESS Sea Island 100 Cloister Drive Sea Island, GA 31561 CHECK IN 4 p.m. CHECK OUT 11 a.m. AIRPORT BQK/JAX/SAV SEASONAL INFORMATION From Labor Day to mid-March, it's quiet on Sea Island and many activities and restaurants will have limited hours; please check with your Destination Concierge for details on hours and closures. THINGS TO KNOW GROCERIES For just the cost of groceries, your concierge will be happy to fulfill your grocery order. Simply complete the order form on your Inspirato.com account at least 72 hours prior to your arrival. Additional shopping trips are $35 plus the cost of groceries. SPECIAL NOTE: Please note that you cannot ship alcohol to the state of Georgia ahead of time. Due to Sea Island’s liquor license requirements, all alcohol orders must be sourced through Sea Island, which you can do by simply noting your alcohol orders on your pre-arrival grocery list. IN-RESIDENCE DINING OPTIONS Room service is available 24/7 from a special a la carte menu. Alternatively, you can opt for drop-off meal service, which includes a fully prepared dinner delivered to your doorstep for you to serve (48-hour notice required). In addition, a private chef can be arranged to come to the residence and prepare a meal for you; however, we request that this be booked a minimum of 72 hours in advance. STAY FIT The resort boasts a state-of-the-art fitness center equipped with everything you need: squash courts, a cycling studio, indoor pool, and more. If you’re looking for a more hands-on experience, personal training is available along with a variety of fitness classes including yoga and Pilates. In addition, the on-site Sea Island Tennis Club has eight Har-Tru® courts available. SPECIAL NOTE: Guests must be 18 or older to access the fitness center unaccompanied; children ages 16 to 18 are welcome if accompanied by a parent or guardian. HOUSEKEEPING Daily. TIPPING GUIDELINES While our Destination Concierge teams and housekeeping staff welcome and appreciate recognition for exceptional service, tipping is entirely up to you based on your level of satisfaction. If you would like to leave a gratuity, we suggest the following general guidelines: + Destination Concierge: $20-$50 per day depending on the level of service you experienced. + Housekeeping: $5-$7 per occupied room per evening is typical for luxury hospitality. + Restaurants: The customary 15-20% of your total bill is appropriate. + Vendors: Gratuity is dependent on the complexity of the experience or service, so we suggest using your discretion. SPECIAL NOTE: With the exception of the spa, all Sea Island activities add a 20 percent service charge. AMENITIES + Five miles of fully serviced private beach and an impressive beach club with three pools + Three award-winning golf courses + Forbes Five-Star rated Cloister Spa + Forbes Five-Star rated Georgian Room restaurant plus eight other on-site dining options + Exceptional children’s program and an expansive equestrian center + Tennis club with 16 Har-Tru courts and volleyball and basketball courts + Game room, ice cream parlor and kids’ movie theater + Family Bingo nights THINGS TO DO SPA Sprawled across 65,000 square feet, the Forbes Five-Star rated Cloister Spa is a remarkable retreat tailor-made for relaxation. The wide variety of treatments, including massages and skin care, is bolstered by wellness programs that include a customized itinerary with options such as private yoga sessions, personal training and Lifestyle Kitchen classes. Appointments are available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays. Advance reservations are strongly recommended. SPECIAL NOTE: The spa offers kids spa treatments for those ages 8 to 12 and teen spa treatments for those ages 13 to 16. GOLF + Seaside Course (located on-site at the Lodge) – Recognized by Golf Digest as one of the Top 100 Courses in the United States, the Seaside Course is also the famous home to the PGA Tour's McGladrey Classic. Lying seaside, the Scottish links course demands that you carefully plan your shots among the tidal creeks, dunes and salt marshes. + Plantation Course (located on-site at the Lodge) – Ancient oaks and cedars surround the Plantation Course, though not so much as to prevent gorgeous views of the Atlantic Ocean. The course renovator, Rees Jones, proclaimed it the "parkland by the sea" for its combination of lush leaves and ocean vistas. Don't be fooled by the expansive fairways; lakes and tidal creeks wait on either side. + Retreat Course (located on-site at the Lodge) – This course may offer the most interesting greens on the island, thanks to innovative redesign by PGA champion Davis Love III and his brother Mark. You'll likely find that a single green shot isn't quite sufficient for the slope and undulations, bordered by sand bunkers. PVA’s TIP: Twilight rates for all three courses begin at 3 p.m. and are available March through October. BEACHES Sea Island sits on a private, five-mile beach that’s perfect for sunbathing, building sandcastles and an array of water sports. Lounge chairs and umbrellas are available free of charge on a first-come, first-serve basis and the beach club has other amenities available for rent, including paddleboards, Hobie Cats and kayaks. DESTINATION HIGHLIGHT Head to the Lodge at sunset for a cocktail, beautiful views of St. Simons Sound and one of Sea Island’s most distinctive features – live bagpipe music. The lively tunes are the perfect complement to a leisurely evening. The time of the bagpipe music changes with the seasons, but usually lasts from 30 minutes before sunset to 30 minutes after. DC’s TIP: Make it a family affair with dinner in the Oak Room followed by “The Lodge Lawn After Dark,” which treats you to complimentary s’mores around the fire pit daily from 6 to 10 p.m. FAMILY Everyone can learn something about Sea Island’s barrier islands and grasslands on a kayaking trip. The small vessels let everyone get a close-up glimpse of wildlife, and a seasoned naturalist is available to guide you through shelling excursions. SPECIAL NOTE: Reservations are required, and tandem kayaks are available upon advance request. MUST-DO Family Bingo night is the tradition at Sea Island Resort – and a fun one at that. Gather up the whole family and try your hand at this timeless game of luck. Who knows, maybe one of you will even come out as that night’s winner. SPECIAL NOTE: Bingo is held Tuesday and Thursday at 8:30 p.m. from spring through fall, plus certain holiday periods (check with your concierge for specific dates). Formal attire is required, and jackets are required for gentlemen over the age of 12. Be sure to make reservations as far in advance as possible. THINGS TO DO ROMANTIC Nine farm-to-table courses, nine wine pairings and one extra-special night: Set aside an evening for the Chef’s Table experience at the Forbes Five-Star rated Georgian Room. At 6:30 p.m. you will be seated in a soundproof, enclosed room in the kitchen, with a glass viewing window that looks into the heart of it all. From your cozy nook, you will be able to watch the expert culinary staff prepare your meal, learning each step along the way. ADVENTURE Your resort features one of the nation’s best shooting schools and whether you’re a seasoned veteran of the sport or just an admiring beginner, it is sure to have a program that excites you. Facilities include a five-stand sporting clay field, two skeet ranges and a trap field. Off-property, at the Broadfield hunting preserve, half-day quail hunts and pheasant shootings are both available. NATURE Discover the surrounding marshes aboard a Sea Island yacht. Your very own nature guide will teach you about the curious wonders of this ecosystem and its numerous inhabitants, including shore birds, dolphins, oysters, shrimp and more. LOCAL Get a slice of local history aboard the St. Simons Island Trolley Tour. During the 1.5-hour trek, local experts provide a narrative of 36 historic Southern sites including the St. Simons Island Lighthouse, Fort Frederica, Christ Church and Bloody Marsh – many of which date back to the mid-18th century and are relics of the Civil War era. SPECIAL NOTE: The trolley picks up at the Pier in St. Simons Island’s Pier Village near 117 Mallery Street.
