GROCERY SHOPPING: Join us on Tuesday, March 22 and Wednesday mornings before and after (30th) for grocery shopping at Market Basket followed by a quick bite to eat on the way home. If you would like to go and need a ride, call for pick-up. WELLNESS CLINIC: Date & Times will be forthcoming. PODIATRIST: Visits are on Fridays and usually every two months. Come and join us every Wednesday afternoon. No charge for this activity. Rowley Van Trip The Bus will leave the Senior Center on Thursday, March 3, at 9:30 am to visit Calef’s Country Store in Barrington, NH. There will be a $4.00 fee due to the distance and tolls. Lunch to follow before we return home to Rowley. As always, all are welcome. However, preference will be given to those who do not drive or who do not have transportation. For economic reasons we will only be running the monthly trip if we have at least 6 people sign up. Creative Coloring is a wonderful way to relax and create something beautiful all while enjoying the company of friends. Teri Silva-O’Neil and Mary McIsaac, Care Managers and Founders, will be joining us for a talk about options to staying in your own home, getting assistance when needed, and what organizations in the community can help accomplish these goals. As part of the Rowley Police Department’s initiative to help ensure the safety of the towns senior citizens, the Rowley Police Department and the Rowley Senior Center are in the process of implementing a new voluntary program called ’Good Morning Rowley’. The purpose of the program is to provide a daily wellness check for senior citizens living alone. The senior citizen participant calls the Rowley dispatch Center each morning between 7 & 9am. If the call is not received, the dispatcher attempts to contact the participant by calling their residence. If there is no answer, an officer is immediately dispatched to investigate. Anyone interested in participating in the program should contact Officer Thomas Hills at 978.948.7644. Prescription Drug Costs too High? Look into the Extra Help program from the Social Security Administration! You may be eligible to apply for Extra Help in meeting prescription drug costs… and you can be a homeowner and still potentially qualify for this program. Benefits for 2016 include drug co-pays as low as $2.95 for generics and $7.40 for brand name drugs. An Extra Help application can be completed anytime during the year. Rowley Triad presents Driving Decisions with Michele Ellicks from MA DOT. This program will be on Wednesday, 3/31/16 at 2pm at the Rowley Library. Learn and Discuss Strategies for Safe and Contentious Driving! From the Director’s Corner, Happy March to All! We have had some recent snow and cold temperatures but I was so happy to see everyone at our February events! The days are getting longer now and there are some wonderful things coming up as we get ready for a change of seasons. March brings St. Patrick’s Day and Easter to us. Our annual trip to Indian Head is looking to be wildly successful and should be fun for everyone! In addition, we have a presentation by Heartstrings, shoe fitting clinic and a day of chair massages with Gail Dombreski. I hope that each event will be informative and enjoyable! The “Friend’s of the Rowley Senior Center,” are a nonprofit organization and corporation, was organized for the charitable purpose of acting as a support organization for the benefit of the Senior Center. The Friend’s Organization supports the Center by funding various functions and activities. They supplement the Center’s annual Christmas Party and fund the “Appreciation Luncheon” for Senior Center volunteers, as well as help to fund van expenses. They also provide kitchen supplies and help with the purchase of office equipment when the need arises. If you have not filled out your Friend’s membership form for the year 2016, won’t you take a moment and do so. We not only need your membership but your support and help in making the Rowley Senior Center a responsive, active organization for Rowley seniors. Please contact Paul Duval (978.948.8735) or Senior Center Staff at Sand Available To Seniors A citizen of the Town of Rowley may obtain a 5 gallon bucket of sand (BYOB = bring your own bucket) from the Highway Department during the winter months to sand driveways and walkways. The Highway Department requests that you pick up the sand between 12-1pm or 3-3:30pm. While the weather is still good, go pick-up your sand and be prepared for winter. Movie CRAZY STUPID LOVE Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 1 pm Inclement Weather Policy The Rowley Senior Center will be open for business in inclement weather unless all Rowley Town Departments are closed. If the Triton School District closes (due to weather) there will be no van or NEET rides and all Senior Center activities and programs will be cancelled or postponed. If the Merrimack Valley Nutrition Program is closed (due to weather) there will be no Meals on Wheels delivered. If in doubt about cancellations, please call the Popcorn & Tonic (no charge) Cal Weaver (Steve Carell) is living the American dream.
