2014 Holiday Open
House
Once again, Dillinger's Event
Center provided the perfect
setting for our annual Chamber
Open House, with great
decorations and nostalgic food
and music.
The Annual Cupcake Raffle was a huge success, with TWENTY-ONE
fantastic prizes hidden inside of delicious cupcakes from Morning Glory
Bakery. We gave away some super door prizes, and our great team of
volunteers from MedFlight sold a lot of 50-50 raffle tickets, sending one
lucky winner home with $104 of holiday cash.
The ugly-sweater-wearing winners of the Ugly Christmas Sweater contest
took home some equally ugly trophies! If you see these contestants around
town, congratulate them on their success:

Chamber Holiday Hours
The Bucyrus Area Chamber of
Commerce will be closed from
Wednesday, December 24 through
Friday, January 2. We will reopen at
8:30 am on Monday, January 5.
If you need something during this time,

Holiday Garbage Schedule
Garbage normally picked up on Thursday, December 25 will be picked up
on Friday, December 26.
Garbage normally picked up on Thursday, January 1 will be picked up on
Wednesday, December 31.
Garbage normally picked up on Friday, January 2 will be picked up on
Monday, January 5.
The city asks that you place your garbage at the curb by 7 am on
December 26, December 31, and January 5 as they will be running double
routes.
Extra paper and cardboard will also be picked up on scheduled
garbage days through January 9 at no additional charge. We would
like to encourage everyone to recycle. Recycling saves money!
The city will pick up live Christmas trees at the curb through January 16 or
they can be taken to the compost site until January 9, as long as they are
not in bags and all decorations, lights and tree stands are removed.
All other non-emergency city offices will be closed on Thursday,
December 25 and Thursday and Friday, January 1 and 2 to observe
the holidays with our families.

Shop Hop Wrap Up
The 2014 Bucyrus Holiday Shop Hop wrapped up on Monday, when the
Chamber and the Bucyrus Tourism and Visitors Bureau helped each of the
thirty participating stores conduct their individual drawings. We then
combined ALL of the thousands of entry forms (thanks Doug and Midwest
Furniture for the mattress bag!) and held the Grand Prize drawing on
Tuesday morning. Annette Richards of New Washington won $300 in
gift cards from area shops and restaurants. The winners of each individual
location prize are listed below, and you can watch video of the Grand Prize
drawing here. We also held a drawing for our participating stores, and
Authentiques won a free ad in the Telegraph Forum!

individuals to promote effective and efficient use of community resources.

Public Safety Forces Hitting the Hardwood for
Backpack Program
Tonight at 7 pm at Bucyrus Secondary School
Officers from the Bucyrus City Police Department and firefighters from the
Bucyrus City Fire Department will trade in their normal work uniforms for
shorts, t-shirts and sneakers to play a friendly game of hoops to benefit the
children of Bucyrus.
The game, slated to tip-off tonight (Wednesday, December 17) at 7:00 pm.
in Alex Kish Memorial Gymnasium at the Bucyrus Secondary School, will
be played to benefit the Bucyrus Backpack Program.
“This is a selfless act of giving from individuals who already give so much
by putting their lives on the line to protect our community everyday,”
Backpack Program Board member Lorie Pennington said. “This is a
wonderful opportunity for students, parents and community members to
see our public safety forces in a different venue, and also raise important
funds and awareness for the Backpack Program.”
The price of admission for the game is $3 for adults and $2 for students,
with all proceeds raised going directly to the Backpack Program. Proceeds
from concession sales will also be donated to the Backpack Program.
Players from both the boys and girls basketball teams will serve as
officials, scorekeepers and work the concession stand.
“We cannot thank our public safety forces enough for their willingness to
play this game to help our students and families, as well as thank them for
the jobs they perform everyday to keep our community safe,”
Superintendent Kevin Kimmel. “I invite all our students and families, and
community members, to come to the game the 17th and support our police
officers, firefighters and the Bucyrus Backpack Program.”

Crossroads Gives Back to
the Community
Fundraising efforts benefit
United Way of Crawford County
Crossroads Original Designs is
giving back to the community this
holiday season thanks to a unique partnership with the United Way of
Crawford County. Crossroads owners Jason and Justin McMullen recently
presented Amber Wertman, Executive Director of the United Way of
Crawford County, with a check for $12,000. These funds were raised
during Crossroads’ biannual open house events this past year; therefore,
much of the credit goes to all of the individuals who purchased a pre-sale
ticket and helped Crossroads meet its fundraising goal.
The McMullen brothers have partnered with the United Way for the past
several years and are committed to giving back to others in ways that help
improve lives and strengthen communities. They proudly support the
efforts of the United Way of Crawford County because this organization
actively works to advance the common good by creating opportunities for a
better life for all.

BWC Update
News from the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation
Reminder: Payment addresses have changed
The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation will send payroll reports to
employers starting Dec. 31, and would like to remind you of their recent
address change.
Please use the following address when submitting payments to BWC via
mail: Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, P.O. Box 89492, Cleveland,
OH 44101-6492.
Express and overnight payments may be mailed to: Attn: Lockbox 89492,
5575 Venture Drive, Unit A, Parma, OH 44130.
Return envelopes that will be sent with invoices and payroll reports will
include the new address. As long as employers use the envelopes BWC
sends out, they will not need to take any additional action. If they do not
use the envelopes provided, they need to update the address.
Health Plan Heroes
What plan is my doctor in? Will my drugs be covered? How much will my
health insurance cost? Do I qualify for a subsidy? These are some of the
questions people are asking in this second open enrollment for health
insurance.
With this year comes a new and very important process: renewing the
coverage you bought last year. For consumers who purchased their
coverage on the exchange, it is important to update your information
before December 15 to make sure you get the right 2015 subsidy.
And that’s where your local broker or one of Anthem’s Health Plan Advisor
comes in – and it is their job to help you do that. They listen to and help
renewing customers; who we refer to as members, understand what
products will meet their health and financial needs. As a licensed
insurance agent, they will consult with you one-on-one, research options
for you – and even call you back with answers. It’s their job to make health
insurance coverage easy.
There are scores of people – including our Bucyrus Area Chamber of
Commerce Director and Dawn Ratliff of ADM Benefit Plans Agency, our
Chamber partner broker – who are ready and standing by to help our
renewing members – as well as new ones.
Yes, last year’s enrollment process captured a lot of news coverage – but it
was also the first year of a very large change in our health insurance
system. Many lessons were learned – and people have been working long
and hard to make sure that the process is smoother this year.
At Anthem, we have conducted extensive research so that it is easier to
search, compare, enroll in, and access coverage with confidence. The
result is a one-stop-shopping experience with subsidy estimates, tailored
plan recommendations and the option to compare doctors and doctor
networks so you can make informed choices. And of course, for those who
want a real person to talk it through – we are here for you.
Yes, as with every big change like this, there will be issues and
challenges, but everyone is committed to working through them. At the
end of the day, the goal is to make sure that everyone is covered with the
right plan for them.

getting the right plan that meets your health and financial needs is what
open enrollment is all about. You can call the Chamber, ADM Benefit Plans
