AMUSEMENT DEVICE FACT SHEETS NJAA – NAARSO 7th Annual Safety Seminar February 2015 FACT SHEETS • ASTM F770 Section 4.1 • Each owner/operator of an amusement ride or device shall read and become familiar with the contents of the manufacturer’s recommended operating instructions and specifications, when received. FACT SHEETS • ASTM F770 Section 4.1 – Each owner/operator shall prepare an operating fact sheet. – This fact sheet shall be made available to each ride or device operator and attendant of the amusement ride or device. – The owner’s/operator’s fact sheet (on a ride by-ride basis) shall include but not be limited to: FACT SHEETS • We Will Use A Zamperla Jump Around For Demonstrative Purposes. FACT SHEETS • ASTM F770 Section 4.1.1 – Specific ride or device operation policies and procedures with pertinent information from the manufacturer’s instructions. FACT SHEETS • Operator Duties • It is the responsibility of the operator to safely load and unload all passengers. • The operator shall ensure that all passengers meet the minimum height requirements to ride prior to allowing the passengers to board the ride. • During loading operation the operator should distribute uniformly passengers on the ride vehicles in order to avoid unbalancing. • All passengers have to be loaded arranging the load as evenly as possible. • The operator shall ensure that the passengers are properly seated. • The operator shall ensure that all passenger restraints are properly secured prior to starting the ride cycle. • The operator shall monitor the ride and all passengers at all times during the ride operating cycle. • After the ride cycle has completed, the operator shall open all passenger restraints and guide the passengers to the ride exit. FACT SHEETS • Ride Description – Jump Around is a ride composed of 6 vehicles provided with a descending/ascending and rotating on a central axis. FACT SHEETS • General Safety Procedures – Normal Operation – The operator and service personnel must keep the attraction under control, paying attention to public and passengers’ behavior. – Public must stay outside the passengers’ loading and unloading area; the latter must be marked and delineated, so access during operation becomes difficult for anyone. – If public should enter in the mentioned area or if it shows dangerous behavior, it is necessary to stop the attraction immediately after making sure that the stop doesn’t cause a worse danger. – If someone feels sick or behaves dangerously for himself of the others it is better to stop the ride immediately after making sure that this doesn’t cause a worse danger. – The operator and service personnel must be prepared to face all emergency situations that may occur, they must know all procedures and have all the instruments to guarantee public and passengers’ safety to ensure a prompt and ordered evacuation. – In case that the operator has to leave his place, he must have attraction stopped and unloaded, in the “off” position the general switch of driving power circuit. FACT SHEETS • Emergency Conditions – In the event of an emergency situation, the operators shall stop the ride, if possible, and call for a supervisor. – The operator shall instruct any passengers on the ride to remain calm and assistance will be there shortly. FACT SHEETS • Abnormal Operating Conditions – In the event of any abnormal operating condition of the ride, unusual noises or passenger distress is observed by the operator; the operator shall press the ride cycle stop switch on the control cycle. – This will return the ride to the load / unload position. The operator shall unload the passengers (IF POSSIBLE) and call for a supervisor. – If the ride WILL NOT lower automatically, the operator shall depress the “SET” switch on the operator console, instruct guests to remain calm and call for a supervisor. FACT SHEETS • Passenger Injury – In the event that a passenger is injured or shows sign of medical distress, the operator shall stop the ride by depressing the ride cycle stop switch on the console.
