Parish Fete 2011
3rd September
Free entry
The Parish Fete will be held on Saturday 3rd September 2011 from
1.00pm on The Football Field, Works Lane. Once again, there will be
numerous attractions for all ages. The Country Club will be open all
afternoon for liquid refreshment and the Bowls club will be providing tea,
coffee and cakes. The Scouts will have their burger and hot dog stand.
The Lafarge Tug-of-War challenge will be taking place and we are sure
Proctors will be keen to retain their championship title. We are looking for
more teams so please let us know if you can get together a team of 8 to
take part.
There will be a live band performing in the evening at Barnstone Country
Club and tickets will be available soon for this free event.
Donations for raffle and tombola prizes would be greatly appreciated. All
proceeds go to the Scouts and Brownies.
The gang putting this together is still eager for ideas for activities and will
welcome extra pairs of hands and brains.
If you would like to take part or run your own stall please contact Andrew
Charlett, Val Gell or The Clerk – contact details at the back of this
newsletter.
ENTRY TO THE FETE IS FREE.

Pond
Langar Village Pond in 1818
The proposed restoration of Langar Village Pond has been approved for
inclusion in the Nottinghamshire County Council Local Improvements
Scheme Initiative. It is intended that the project will be delivered during
2011/12 subject to more detailed design work, detailed costings and the
gaining of planning approval.
A very positive meeting was held with the Nottinghamshire County
Council Project Officer on 6 May when various issues were discussed.
The level of funding by the County Council is yet to be agreed but it is
likely that additional funds will need to be sought from other sources.
The next steps in the project are the completion of the lease agreement
with Everards Brewery Limited, applying for planning permission,
identifying other sources of funding and obtaining quotations for work to
be done by contractors approved by the County Council.
The ongoing maintenance of the pond will remain the responsibility of the
Langar Village Pond Trust, so it is vitally important that we recruit as
many members as possible to help with the work, raise funds etc.
Look out for further updates on the Village Blog and in the next issue of
Parish Newsletter.
If you can help us in any way please contact Nigel Wood on

Note from the editor
Hello and don't the villages look fantastic now all the leaves are back on
the trees? It's a relief to emerge from such a long winter and more
villagers are out and about, plus all the cyclists, hikers and horse riders
that use our villages.
There seems to be more than ever going on in our villages at the moment,
please check the parish website to see details on the archery club, and
film club, as well as all the events listed in the newsletter. I am particularly
looking forward to the village fete in September, last year I came home
with loads of goodies, a raffle prize and an afternoon well spent!
Congratulations to the winner of the March edition competition winner. The
winner lives in Langar, but would prefer to stay anonymous. I hope you
like the new name and layout to the magazine.
As always any comments, photos or local happenings would be very
grateful. Anything received will go into a hat to win this editions prize.
Charity Fundraising Event
Joan Charlett of Barnstone has been an active independent volunteer
fundraiser for the Nottingham Breast Institute, City Hospital for 3 years. In
this time she has baked countless delicious cakes for sale, compiled and
sold 1,000 copies of a cookery book and embarked upon a sponsored trek in
the Himalayas and even undertaken a sponsored Firewalk. She is now
engaging in her first venture into organising a fundraising event.
This will take the form of a High Quality Food & Craft Fair to be held at
The Old School, Cropwell Bishop on Sunday 3rd July from 11a.m. to 3 p.m,
where she will be providing Ploughman’s lunches and Teas with her
delicious homemade cakes, to keep pangs of
hunger at bay whilst visitors enjoy a browse
around the many stalls and displays.
There will be lots of food stalls, craft stalls and
fun for all the family; not forgetting the Teddy
Bears who will have the opportunity to
parachute from the adjoining St. Giles Church
tower around midday. So bring your Teddy
Bear and parachute!
Where else could a family enjoy a Grand Day
Out, with free admission, and bask in the feelgood factor of contributing to raising funds for
Breast Cancer Research?

Open Meeting held
by the Langar &
Barnstone
Scalextric Club on
Sunday 20 March.
Everyone took part
in a series of
challenge circuit
races as well as
trying their hand at
a rally stage based
on the Monte Carlo

ended with a knock-out competition of races. The final was between
Barbara Wood and Phil Petchell with Phil coming out the victor.
The next step for the club is to build a permanent circuit and we are in the
process of purchasing the required items of track. We intend to hold regular
meetings in Barnstone Village Hall. Watch out for details of this.
If you couldn’t make the Open Meeting but would like to join the club please
give me a ring on 01949 860001.
