As we reported earlier, Arcadia Mayor Peter Amundson has apparently invited H.B. London, Jr. , vice president of Ministry Outreach/Pastoral Ministries
for Focus on the Family, to the Mayor’s Breakfast on March 4. According to Amundson’s profile, the mayor “appreciates the history and culture of our
city as well as the hometown traditional values that have made Arcadia great.” His Facebook page says he is a fan of Protect Marriage, sponsors of the
antigay Yes on Prop 8 initiative – which was ruled unconstitutional by a federal district court last year.
Tuesday night, a number of people who are pro-LGBT equality spoke before the Arcadia City Council expressing their concern about the mayor
courting the anti-gay religious group.

Gail Rolf, Education Director of Friends of Project 10, a group that supports the long-running LGBT youth-supportive Project 10, wrote this follow-up
message:
“Thank you for “showing up.” Yes, really showing up. Everyone spoke from their hearts, and virtually every point that need to be made,
was made tonight. We have created the “groundwork” with our efforts to get Mayor Amundson to cancel the Focus on the Family speaker,
H.B. London, Jr., for the March 4th Mayor’s Breakfast.
The Mayor truly had a “meltdown” and showed his true colors by calling us “haters” and referring to us as “opposition activists” who have
“no tolerance.” And yes, he boasted about ticket sales due to the outstanding press coverage in the local papers. All of this went on public
record. Let’s continue our movement toward creating a culture for the city of Arcadia that fosters inclusion of all people. The culture of the
city portrayed tonight is a hostile one, and we are the voices who shall challenge that. A city not safe for LGBT people is not safe for
anyone, including families. Continue rallying your friends, family members, clergy, educators, and colleagues to come out and support this
cause.”
