Abilene Dyess Air Force Base Economic Impact
Dyess Air Force Base has a total economic impact of $420,939,089 on the Big Country’s economy. This impact stems from Active Duty and Retired Military members, Military Civilians and Dependents. It also includes jobs created in the community to meet the needs of the people listed above and contracts that the base makes with local vendors. Dyess Air Force Base exists to deliver rapid, decisive and sustainable air power to combat commanders anytime and anywhere it is needed with the B-1 bombers. Dyess is the home of the first operational B-1 bomber and is the training center for all B-1 aircrews. It is also the home of two squadrons of C-130J aircraft which provide worldwide airlift support, including the delivery of critical humanitarian aid. Our relationship with the Big Country extends beyond economics. As a team, we enjoy a long standing and rich history of mutual respect and support. The excellent community relations are evidenced in activities such as "The World's Largest Barbecue" for Dyess personnel and their families and the Veterans Day parade sponsored by the citizens of Abilene. Big Country residents have an interest in the military presence which is reflected in the wide participation in the Dyess Open House. Numerous local business people share their business expertise and experience with the military community and serve as honorary squadron commanders. Dyess personnel return their generosity by volunteering their time and services to many local charities and civic groups Economic Impact Statement Oct 2012 - Sep 2013 Dyess 20% 10% 7 BW 317 AG 70% Other Dets & Tenants For More Information, Contact: 7th Comptroller Squadron 7 Lancer Loop, Suite 165 Dyess AFB, TX 79605 (325) 696-2017 EIS data was compiled, analyzed, written, and edited by 7th CPTS Air Force Base Personnel Active Duty Military Military Retirees 4,394 3,570 Total Military 7,964 Appropriated Funds Civilians Non-Appropriated Civilians Base Exchange Private Business 398 152 107 42 Total Civilians 699 Total Dependents 5,807 Total Personnel 14,470 ECONOMIC IMPACT: $420+MILLION ACROSS the big country Military Pay Active Duty Military Military Retirees Total Military Pay $230,213,958 $86,112,000 $316,325,958 Civilian Pay Appropriated Funds Civilians Non-Appropriated Civilians Base Exchange Private Business Total Civilian Pay $27,649,531 $3,599,528 $1,862,856 $1,265,373 $34,377,288 Contract Expenditures Medical Construction Government Purchase Card Commissary Base Exchange Health/TRICARE Impact Aid/Tuition Assistance Other Procurement Total Expenditures $334,109 $6,262,138 $196,300 $460,859 $2,360,906 $3,227,821 $22,963,416 $35,805,549 Medical Construction 1% 17% 1% 1% 7% 64% 9% Government Purchase Card Commissary Base Exchange Health/TRICARE Impact Aid/Tuition Assistance Other Procurements Job Creation Total Number of Jobs Created Average Annual Pay 1,574 $36,000 *Bureau of Labor Statistics: Abilene, Texas Estimated Annual Dollar Value of Jobs Created $56,664,000 Economic Impact Total Payroll Local Expenditures Value of Job Creation $350,703,246 $13,571,843 $56,664,000 Total Economic Impact $420,939,089
