Advanced Placement EXCELLENCE Knox students sat for a total of 27 Advanced Placement exams in May of 2011 and did remarkably well overall. In fact, most students scored at least 3 on their exams. Only 6 exams received a score below 3. Twenty-one out of 27 exams or 78% scored 3 or above. This is significant because many colleges and universities, particularly state schools, will give advanced credit for scores of 3 or above. Seventeen exams or 63% had scores of 4 or above. Most astounding, twelve exams or 44% scored a perfect 5. If the AB subtest of the BC Calculus exam is included, 50% of the exams scored a perfect 5. This is truly an incredible accomplishment by Knox students. As Advanced Placement courses are designed primarily for 11th and 12th grade students, special mention should be made of two students who scored 5 on AP the Calculus AB exam: 10th grader Tai Jin and 9th grader Trevor Henderson. Additionally, two members of the Class of 2011, Ji Sub Choi and Elijah Kim, qualified as Advanced Placement Scholars, a designation that is reserved for those students who earn a score of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams. Ji Sub and Elijah averaged 4.67 out of 5. Congratulations… Duncan L.
