Badgerland Financial returns almost $9.55 million in
cash patronage dividends
Badgerland Financial closed its 2013 fiscal year with good earnings,
a strong portfolio and a solid capital position. That’s great news for you
and your cooperative!
One of the benefits of doing business with our cooperative is the patronage
program. Because of this year’s strong performance, Badgerland Financial
distributed almost $9.55 million in cash patronage dividends to our
patronage-eligible member-borrowers in March.
“Badgerland Financial is committed to cultivating rural life and helping
our members achieve their goals,” says Diane Cole, CEO. “It pays to work
with us. Not just because we have a strong knowledge of agriculture, but
because members have the opportunity to share in our co-op’s success
through patronage.”
In the past 10 years, Badgerland Financial has returned nearly $85
million to our patronage-eligible member-borrowers to reinvest into their
farms, businesses and local economies. Patronage is just one part of the
cooperative difference!
Want to learn more about how the patronage program works? Check out
our patronage video at badgerlandfinancial.com (under the “Our Company”
section) for a more in-depth explanation.
Here are a just a few reasons why our
members love our patronage program:
“For 40 years, through hard times and good
times, I have benefited from patronage
dividends returned to Badgerland Financial
borrowers. Patronage dividends are our
reward for joining together with our neighbors
throughout rural Wisconsin to access reliable
credit to help us build our future and fulfill our
dreams.” - Dave Kuehl, Hazel Green
“Cash patronage dividends provide a
tremendous value to Badgerland Financial
members. Our slogan, ‘We know ag because
we are ag,’ means you are dealing with
people who know and understand your
business needs.” - Jim Rickert, Eldorado
“In the ever-changing agriculture industry,
where variable, unpredictable weather and
input costs are the norm, it’s reassuring to be
part of a steady and stable cooperative where
the members own the business and receive
patronage when times are good.” - Tim Evert,
North Freedom

patronage video available online

President’s Message
Spring has arrived (at least on the calendar anyway!) It’s a seasonal shift that naturally
signifies new beginnings and growth, especially for farmers so closely connected to the land.
At Badgerland Financial, it’s this time of year that we, too, find ourselves re-energized about
our role in growing rural Wisconsin and helping you, our customers, achieve your goals.
After all, our roots run deep. Badgerland Financial is proud to be a part of nationwide Farm
Credit System, which is nearing its milestone 100th year of lending support to agriculture
and rural America. The System provides over one-third of the financing for agriculture in the
country, has nearly 500,000 member-borrowers and employs nearly 13,000 people.
So what does this mean for you as a customer of Badgerland Financial?
Diane Cole
CEO
Badgerland Financial
Expertise. Your Badgerland Financial teams know ag and country living, so you benefit
from industry-leading expertise and financial services. Serving agriculture and rural
Wisconsin is who we are and all that we do.
Commitment. We are here for you–in both good and difficult times. You don’t need to
wonder whether we will still be interested in agriculture when your next need arises or the
next cycle hits.
Competitive Pricing. We access the global credit markets at attractive rates, which
helps keep your borrowing cost down. In fact, we help keep interest rates down for all of
agriculture through our consistent, competitive presence.
Local Control. Due to the cooperative structure of the System, you as member-owners
retain local control over Badgerland Financial through your elected Board of Directors.
It is a great time to be a Badgerland Financial customer, for reasons mentioned above but
also for so much more. Just take a look at highlights in this newsletter! I encourage you to
take advantage of what we have to offer.

Daniels, Schauf Named “AgVocates of the Year”
at the Wisconsin Ag Women’s Summit
More than 300 women were
in attendance to celebrate
their role in agriculture at the
Wisconsin Ag Women’s Summit,
hosted by Badgerland Financial,
Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation
and UW-Extension on March 14
and 15 in Madison. Laura Daniels,
Cobb, and Karyn Schauf, Barron,
were specially recognized as the
2014 Wisconsin AgVocates of
the Year during Friday evening’s
banquet.
Laura Daniels (above left) and Karyn Schauf inspire the
crowd as they accept the AgVocate of the Year award.
“We all have that moment where we read in the newspaper something that doesn’t
represent the truth of agriculture. We know that someone needs to speak up
on behalf of farmers, and it’s that moment that we realize it’s our time,” Daniels
commented. She and her husband, Jarred, and children, Nathan and Julia, care for
their 300 Jersey cows and 650 acres of crop and pasture land at Heartwood Farm.
“The real key to successful advocating is that, whatever style fits you best, just do
it well,” Schauf shared with attendees. Karyn and her husband, Bob, own and farm
Indianhead Holsteins where they milk 100 registered Holstein cows and market
cattle genetics world-wide.
The Wisconsin Ag Women’s Summit AgVocate of the Year award is given to a
woman who actively and positively represents agriculture to both her peers and
those outside of the agriculture community.
The Summit’s planning committee invites women to save the date for the 2015
Wisconsin Ag Women’s Summit, March 13-14 at the Madison Marriot West in
Middleton. You can follow the Summit on Facebook: facebook.com/Wisconsin.

Crop Insurance Reminders
As you work on spring planting, your Badgerland Financial Crop Insurance
team has a few important reminders for you.
Winter Kill Concerns – If you suspect winter kills on your winter wheat, forage
stand or 2013 forage seeding, you may be eligible for a crop insurance payment.
Just remember, an adjuster needs to assess the winter kill damage before you
plow or rotate to another crop!
Cover Crop Insurability – A new rule this year is that in order to insure a spring
crop following a cover crop, you must terminate the cover crop at or within five
days after planting but before crop emergence.
Hail insurance – If you’re concerned about Wisconsin’s unpredictable weather
this summer, you can protect your crops with Crop Hail Insurance. You don’t need a
federal crop insurance policy to purchase hail insurance, and you can add coverage
up to two hours before the storm. Plus, it includes coverage for crop damage
caused by fire, vandalism and transportation.
