January 2008 - Classic Glass Corvette Club
Volume XVIII Issue1, 2008 THE SETTE VETTE A Monthly Publication For The Members of The Classic Glass Corvette Club Volume XVIII January 2008 President’s Corner As the cold north wind starts to blow and winter gets its icy grip on us, we are already dreaming of warmer weather and cruising with the tops down… I want to start out by saying THANK YOU to all of our members for making it a great past year as President! It really makes it easy to be President with the wonderful amount of support I have received. It has been a real pleasure to have served you all. I know that you will all give our incoming President, Don Jones the same great support you gave me. Since our November meeting, we had an absolutely picture perfect day for the Veteran’s Day Parade on November 11th. We had about 9 or so cars from Classic Glass and another 9 or so from one of our sister clubs, Corvette Atlanta. For some of our club members it was the first parade they had participated in. It was the least that we could do for all of the sacrifice and selflessness that our fighting men and women give to allow us to continue to enjoy the freedoms we have. We also had a great time with the Children’s Hospital Christmas Parade. We had 4 cars attend and Tom Wright had a DJ from Dave FM while Jerry Briant, Harriette Majoros and I had the Kelly and Alpha team from B98.5 along with Alpha’s Wife. As Harriette said, “the crowd loves the sound of the Corvettes”… Our 2007 Holiday Party and Annual Meeting was a huge hit as we had the Sock Hops providing live entertainment. This was the first time in quite some time we had a sit down dinner. There was plenty of dinner, dancing and fun for everyone that attended. I know why some folks, including myself, don’t need to have a microphone to be entertaining... ☺ A number of our members decided to donate their checks back to either the Foster Care Group or the NCM. We have also had volunteers shopping their little feet off buying for the Needy Families that were picked this year. The hard part is going to be wrapping all of those gifts. Once again we increased the number of families we sponsored this year. I know that these families will be very appreciative of the thoughts and gifts from the club. I would like to thank the 2007 Board of Directors for keeping me on the right track this year. A good leader surrounds themselves with great people and this was another great group to help keep things running smoothly. Join me in welcoming the 2008 Board of Directors and Officers: President – Don Jones V.P. at Large – Darryl Gunter V.P. of Membership – Larry Yon V.P. of Activities – Harriette Majoros Board of Directors Carl Etter Jack Kreger Barry Tomlinson Joe Owens NCM Ambassador – Fred Hale Newsletter Editor – Bill Majoros Treasurer and Secretary Positions have been announced and the Board of Directors has approved them. SELECTION The Corvette club/organization shall submit an application naming its selection of an ambassador to the NCM. The Ambassador must be a current member of the National Corvette Museum. The NCM will process the application and mail the Ambassador their welcome kit. The selected Ambassador will then be the point of contact for the NCM. COMMUNICATION The National Corvette Museum communicates weekly to our Ambassadors through e-mails on our Ambassador e-mail list. This is also a forum to be used among the Ambassadors to share ideas with each other and the Museum. The Corvette clubs/organizations are invited to send their club newsletter to the NCM to be included in the library. Ambassadors are encouraged to contact Stephanie Morrill at any time for assistance with projects or questions. AMBASSADOR MEETINGS NCM Ambassador In May, nominations are due for NCM ambassador. The following is the process by which selection is made. Any one in our club who is an NCM member is eligible and you may enter your own name to the club president. The board makes the final decision. Ambassadors are encouraged to attend NCM membership meetings. At least one Ambassador meeting will be held each year in conjunction with our Corvette Celebration each Labor Day Weekend. The following also tells what is expected of the ambassador. Fred Hale has met and exceeded all of Classic Glass Corvette Club Page 2 Volume XVIII Issue1, 2008 Preparations for the 2008 American Le Mans Series, its 10th season of world-class sports car racing, begin January 28-30 with the annual Winter Test at Sebring International Raceway. The 2008 season opens with the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring on Saturday, March 15. Watch for the Vette’s! The new Classic Class Corvette Club, Marietta, GA windshield clings are in and are being used for the first time in the Chick-Fil-A bowl Parade on Dec 31st. Watch for us! From VP of Membership: Larry Yon Here is a current list of new members for Nov. and Dec. John & Sonya Fulcher William & Rena Kruse WELCOME! Valentines Day weekend will be Feb 9 & 10. As usual, we will have a block of rooms and you will make your own room reservation direct. There are a number of places under consideration right now and I will have this finalized before the meeting on January 8. First of all I would like to welcome the new members to Classic Glass, as we look forward to a great 08. I ask that all of you please take part in the club activities and meetings. I promise you will have a wonderful experience. There will be a busy schedule for this year so check the web site often. As details are finalized, the web site will be updated. If you have an event you would like to see run, please let me know. I would be happy to work with you for a date and assist you in making the plans. Thank everyone who voted for me this year. I will do my best to uphold the office. I look forward to seeing all of you in January. From VP of Activities: Harriette Majoros Gosh! I am so excited about this 2008. We will be doing some old type stuff along with a lot of new. At the Holiday Party and via email, some of you have given suggestions and are willing to manage the event. One event will be “Don’t Bet Your Vette” Poker Run. Another will be a Just for Fun to Anywhere run. Mystery Cruise and Wine Cruise each will be run and a weekend trip to S.A.M. Our year is off and running with the Calvary Home Kids on January 12 at US Play in Kennesaw, off Barrett Pkwy, up the hill at the BP station. Start time is 12:30p.m. so if you will plan on being there about 12:15 we can greet the kids when they get there. Same lanes to the back on the left. Bowling for 2 hrs, pizza and drinks. Then the kids will get play cards for the games. Plan on bowling or being a cheerer. If you have not let Larry Yon know what model Vette you have, would you do so at the next meeting you attend. Jerry Briant is gathering a list of all Convertible owners so that we only bug those folks for dignitary rides in parades. He is coordinating all the parades this year but that does not mean he is running all of them. There are plenty of events that will need a manager While I am now retired, I cannot do it all and we have an aggressive agenda. A number of good folks have made suggestion and are managing events. Jack Kreger will be doing all the Sat. car shows at Riverstone and Acworth. Jerry Briant is managing all of the parades. Chris Siddall will be gathering all the volunteers for SVS. Will you answer the call to manage? It is not hard. Heck even making the runs, plotting them out on Mapquest, Bill and I always manage to make a wrong turn. Getting back is fun. As many of you know, I not as VP of Activities but as a regular member like to do a Heart to Heart project in February. This year it will be “Bottoms Down.” Donna Cruce told me that the foster care kids do not get hand-me down or used underwear (thank heaven!). So here’s the deal: Bring either a package of socks or a package of underwear. Just one package per member is all I ask. However many are in the package, well then that is it. My heart felt Thanks. Keep on Wavin’ Harriette He also wants to have some parades where in the coupes can participate such as 4th of July parades where the entry is made as a group. Coupes will have first dibs on this as those with convertibles get to have the fun in many of the parades we do. Classic Glass Corvette Club Page 3 Volume XVIII Issue1, 2008 CLASSIC GLASS CORVETTE CLUB MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL- 2008 It is time again to renew your Club Membership for the coming year.
