In the midst of your busy
schedules of everyday life,
work, and school, look up and
notice it is almost Fall! I
would like to extend a warm
welcome to all our students
…. New students, welcome to
your first day of class! Welcome back to those continuing
their education! And congratulations to those who have
completed their journey with
us and finished their educations!
A firm believer in education, I have been given opportunities because of the education I’ve achieved—for example, I’ve been with Vatterott
College for 8 years and this
past August I experienced my
first Vatterott gradua-

tion. There was an immense
amount of pride and energy
displayed by graduates, students, staff and faculty. It
makes me further appreciate
what our students endure to get
to school and complete their
degrees. The energy at graduation and your educational
challenges makes me think
about how many lives have
been changed by the pure
knowledge of the power of an
education gained in these hallways. That gives me goose
bumps.
Sometimes it is the bigger
picture and a wider view of the
affect when an individual receives an education. Through
the experience, education, and
knowledge that are provided
from within these walls, challenges have been overcome,
obstacles have been moved,
mentors and friends have been
made. It brings me great
pleasure to see our students rise
to defeat their challenges and
forever change their lives with
even an ounce of knowledge or
education!
Always look to the reward
of the challenge and at the end
of the day know that in life
we will continue to be students even outside of an educational institution. Open
your minds to your current
experience and YOUR future
experiences of knowledge and
education. Go for the challenge! Don’t lose sight of
your dreams and accomplishments!

STAFF SPOTLIGHT:SYLVIA HUBBLE
Over the course of Sylva’s career in
teaching, she has educated over 4,000
students. She values knowing that she
is setting a foundation for the rest of
all of her student’s lives. One thing
Sylvia greatly enjoys is seeing her past
students out and about … finding out
what they’re doing and knowing she
played a part in their success. She has
been with NorthPark for 14 months
teaching Phase1 classes in the Cosmetology department.
When asked what she enjoys about
teaching at Vatterott, she said,
“Vatterott offers a vast amount of
student services that help you overcome your obstacles, stay in
school, and become the person who
you desire to be.” Her motto is
“No Stylist Left Behind!”

Be specific in formulating
your complaints. Resist the
temptation to involve
yourself in conflicts that do
not directly involve you. Try
to depersonalize conflicts. Instead of a "me versus you" mentality, visualize
an "us versus the problem"
scenario. Be open and listen to another's point of
view and reflect back to the
person what you think you
heard. Don't always involve your superiors in
conflict resolution. You'll
quickly make the impression
that you are unable to re-

solve the smallest difficulties. Take it outside and
away from the group of
inquisitive coworkers if
they're not involved in the
problem. Limit your complaints to those directly
involved in the workplace
conflict. Character assassination is unwarranted.
Know when conflict isn't just conflict. If conflict arises due to sexual,
racial, or ethnic issues, or if
someone behaves inappropriately, that's not conflict,
it's harassment. Take action and discuss the prob-
lem with your supervisor or
human resources department. Consider a mediator if the problem gets out
of control, or if the issue is
too emotional to resolve in a
mutual discussion. Take
home point: It's not all
about you - You may think
it's a personal attack, but
maybe your co-worker is just
having a bad day. Take time
to think BEFORE you speak
in response to an insensitive
remark.
It may be that saying
nothing is the
best response.

IRONMAN COMPETITION 2012
August 30, 2012 Northpark hosted our annual
Ironman Welding Competition. Last year was
exciting, but this year we
had a much larger turnout
and the competition was
intense. I’d like to thank
all of the participants in
this year’s event. I hope it
was a good experience
for everyone involved.

We had 57 donars!!!!!!
Our goal for the school
was 25. The clinical
medical students were
quite awesome! We
had so many people,
the other teachers,
staff, Ms. Denise, who
was from the bone
morrow association,
Bobby, Ms. Kathy,
even other students
make so many positive
comments on how very
professional our students looked and behaved. “Like a real professional should be” I
could not had been
prouder of all of my clinical students. They all
really “stepped up to
the plate” Yea for
ya’all… All of Vatterott
really came together for
a greater cause. I am
proud of each and every
donor for, hopefully,
making
a
huge difference
in
someone’s
life.

I want to thank all of

students for sponsoring
the Marrow Registry
Drive at Vatterott College - North Park Campus on August 21. We
had
an
amazing
turnout; 58 potential
donors joined the
registry
and
at
least
12
people
wanted to join the
registry but couldn't
because of health
issues or age!
Also, we talked about
our best donors being
between the ages of 18
-44 years old. Patients
react better to their
stem cells because they
are more active.
I
would guess that about
95% of the potential
donors that joined at
your drive were in that
age range!
As you
know we are desperate
to get more minorities
on our registry and at
your drive we had 53
minorities out of the 58
that joined!
This is
awesome!
With every additional
marrow donor added to
the registry we are giving thousands of patients a better chance
of finding a match. It is
great that we now have
58 additional potential
donors on our marrow
registry
because
of
your drive.
Your
drive also helped us
educate
and
build
awareness about the
life-saving benefits of
joining the Be The
Match Registry.
Also, please thank
all
your
volunteers
again for me. They
all did an amazing
job and worked so
hard!

able to have Marrow

It was a perfect day for
an Open House and Student
Appreciation Event … our
very own outdoor Vatterott
Voice concert … warm, but
not like our July (ya’ll
know what I mean—
blistering and unrelenting)
… the sun was bright and
not over-powering, the
stage was set, and the
crowd was full of students,
faculty, staff, and friends
from all around … Hot
104.1 was in attendance
with a few DJ’s as well.

Before the concert began,
I had the privilege to sit
and talk with Seviin Li.
In the first few seconds
she was interviewing
me—she’s like sitting
and talking to your best
girl friend!! We could
have talked for hours. So
gracious, intelligent, and
full of life. Not only does
she sing hip-hop, she
loves gospel, jazz, r&b,
alternative, she’s an actor
on the stage as well—
loving plays and playing
to an audience in
whatever capacity. She’s
diverse and amazing.
Did you know she was

Sure was. She’s a
military kid and has been
all over, but loves to call
St. Louis home and we
are proud to have her!
