In a congregaon our size, small groups are the primary way for people to connect with others while pursuing spiritual transformaon in their lives. Small groups are a way of building an interconnected community, one in which we foster opportunies to sojourn together. When we nurture intenonal relaonships with one another, we embody a relaonal God – a God made known in the life and ministry of Jesus, who reminds us that wherever we gather in small numbers, the Christ Presence is with us. There are three main types of Small Groups at First Congregaonal Church: Spiritual Growth & Development Groups, Fellowship Groups and Mission & Social Acon Groups. While some groups emphasize one value over another, each small group embodies four important values: Inving, Growing, Connecng and Serving. SG D!"!#!$G% Spirituality groups are primarily interested in growing spiritually through study, discussion, spiritual pracces, prayer and worship. While spirituality groups emphasize growing, they are also intenonal about inving others to join the group, connecng with one another to build community, and serving others through outreach. F!%G% Fellowship groups are primarily interested in connecng with others, providing opportunies for friendship and community building. But fellowship groups are not merely social clubs: they are also groups that offer opportunies to grow spiritually through prayer or theological reflecon, inving others to join the group, and serving others through service projects. Fall 2013 Small Group Ministries Page 4 M%%$S(A($G% Mission groups are primarily interested in serving others in the community or in the world. What differenates mission groups from other philanthropic organizaons is the theological commitments that invite us to serve, which means mission groups are also interested in growing spiritually. Through acts of service, mission groups also provide opportunies for inving and connecng with others. O!G% In addion to these three primary groups, we also offer many other group opportunies (i.e. Youth Groups, Music Groups, professionally led groups). Regardless of the group’s focus, each strives to incorporate all four components: Inving, Growing, Connecng and Serving. We hope the small group experiences will help us to discover and enrich our faith, to discern and use our gi<s, and to build community within our congregaon. Look through the many offerings, find something of interest to you, and get involved. Sign up at the Small Groups Fair on Sunday, September 29 following both services, or call/email the facilitator listed.
