PRESS KIT 2015
A furiously fun musical hybrid dance-a-thon
that beams positivity through intimate Westcoast
stories powerfully rooted in funky, Graceland
beats and ripping, old time guitar licks.
Our Story
“It isn’t conventional yet
immediately approachable,
being a mix of South African
(via Paul Simon’s Graceland),
reggae, latin with a hint of gospel.”
Tom Harrison
THE PROVINCE NEWSPAPER
“They’ll pull even the most
stubborn wallflower into a
frenzied tribal dance-a-thon.”
Paul Crawford
FOUNDER, ARTSWELLS FESTIVAL
“It’s impossible to not succumb
to the contagious joyfulness
pouring off the stage.”
Buckman Coe
MUSICIAN
“It was like Phish showed up at
a bluegrass concert.”
Maxuel Boyel
MUSICIAN
Warless has two goals: to celebrate life on this west coast, and to help people
have a hell of a great time.
Friends since art school on Vancouver Island, Keith and Rika first laid the
roots of Warless playing folk songs around the campfire in 2002. Years
later, they found themselves making their own music, sharing Rika’s inspired
songwriting at open mics throughout Vancouver. Fast forward to 2015,
and Warless is a long way from the coffee house circuit. With the addition of
Erin Sharp’s worldbeat rhythms and Eric Lu’s danceable bass grooves in
2011, the shows grew in energy. Then in the summer of 2013, Noam Ascher’s
meticulous keyboards and vocal harmonies brought things to a yet another
level. The ensuing summers featured two tours of BC, featuring fan-making
performances at ArtsWells, One Love Festival and the Edge of the World
Festival in Haida Gwaii.
In late 2014, they released the six-song EP “Upbeat Liberators,” filled with high
energy, dance floor-moving grooves. But don’t be fooled – Rika’s thoughtful
songwriting is still in there if you’re listening.
We are Warless. In the hope that some day we all will be.

“It isn’t conventional yet immediately approachable, being a mix of South African (via Paul Simon’s

or Phish with its attention to feels, busy grooves and dynamics.”
