あらすじ
梟
The Owl
ASIJ KYOGEN CLUB PRESENTS
狂言2015 A man returns from the mountains, acting
strangely and crying like an owl. His
concerned brother visits a mountain priest
for help. An angry owl spirit has possessed
the brother. The priest uses his powerful
incantations to get rid of the spirits but this
has unintended consequences...
とある兄弟の弟が山から帰ってきて以来、奇
声を発するなど奇妙な行動をとるようになる。
それを心配した兄は山伏に弟の容態を見ても
らいに行くことにする。山伏は弟が梟に取り
憑かれてると言い、悪霊を祓うよう全力を つくす。

Welcome to our Annual Kyogen Performance!

This evening marks the 38th year of Kyogen performances by students
at the American School in Japan. 二人大名
Kyogen (狂言) is a traditional Japanese performing art which is related
!
to Noh (能). Unlike the refined and elegant Noh, however, Kyogen is
comical and aims to bring laughter to the audience. The literal
translation of Kyogen is “crazy speech.” !
Once again this year, students have had the privilege of working
together with professional actors from the Okura School – Yasutaro
Yamamoto, and Noritaka Yamamoto. We are deeply grateful for their
help. !

あらすじ
Two daimyo or powerful feudal lords are
traveling by foot to the capital city of
Kyoto. They are used to having their
servants carry their long swords, but today,
they happen to have no one with them. So
they ask a passerby to be their servant, but
the passerby respectfully declines. The
lords won’t take no for an answer and
forces the reluctant fellow into service. The
passerby turns the tables on the two lords,
however, and antics ensue.

A young man is preparing to visit his future
father-in-law for the very first time to ask
permission for his marriage. To learn the
proper manners for this formal greeting, he
visits an acquaintance who can teach him.
However, this friend tricks him to make him
Serving Sizes look ridiculous. Watch for the father-in-law’s
unexpected reaction.

若い男が結婚の許可を得るため、舅に会いに

いく準備をしていた。男は婿入りに行く前に、
舅に失礼な態度をとらないようにするため、
二人は普段家来に太刀を運ばせていたが、そ
婿入りの作法と礼儀を学ぼうと知人を訪ねる。
の日はいなかった。そのため、ふと通りかかっ
しかし、この知人は聟にいたずらをしようと
た男に太刀を持ってくれと横柄な態度で頼む。
間違った作法を教えることにする。
通りの者は渋々受け入れるが、二人の大名の
偉そうな態度に腹をたて、復讐することを決
意する。
