Content updated as of March 6, 2015
Dear Colleagues and Friends:
I am pleased to invite you to
join professionals from around
the globe for the 62nd Annual
Meeting, 6th World Congress on
Exercise is Medicine®, and World
Congress on the Basic Science of
Exercise Fatigue, in beautiful San
Diego, California.
The program committee has
assembled an extraordinary schedule of clinical and original
science sessions, which is based on registrant feedback
and which spans the breadth of ACSM member interests.
Specifically, the 2015 program will include a strong clinical
track (i.e., with CAQ review and clinical case sessions) and
a pre-conference for graduate students and early career
professionals. I personally am eager to attend the scientific
sessions that will focus on exercise fatigue: from skeletal
muscle anatomy-physiology to neuromuscular diseases. And
don’t forget the prestigious Wolffe, Dill, and President’s
lectures (pages 6-7) which promise to be informative, appealing
and memorable.
Many networking events will allow you to meet and greet
colleagues and make new friends. Unscheduled time blocks
remain during the noon hour and evenings, allowing you
to socialize, exercise, or enjoy the exceptional dining and
recreation that San Diego offers. Runners and in-line skating
enthusiasts will be delighted by Balboa Park. Families will be
able to enjoy the world-famous San Diego Zoo. Major league
baseball fans will be pleased because the Padres will play the
Pittsburgh Pirates at Petco Park on three nights.
Please make your travel reservations today, and register early to
get the discounted rate.

ACSM Media Training: Crafting Your Message for a Multimedia World
Tuesday, May 26, 1:00 p.m.
Explaining a study to a potential funder? Describing a treatment plan to a patient? Spreading your health and exercise message
to the public through an interview with a journalist? Answering a hot topic media request on deadline? Communication with the
public begins with crafting the scientific or clinical message in a clear, understandable, concise and compelling story.
In this session, learn to craft a compelling message for print and social media. Hear specific techniques to hook and energize
your audience. Teach, entertain and maybe even go viral with your message. Substantial discussion illustrates real interactions
with media professionals. Attendance at this session is strongly recommended for potential members of ACSM’s Media Referral
Network.

PINES Ten Questions, Ten Experts: Sports Nutrition for the Brain
Tuesday, May 26, 4:00-6:00 p.m. followed by the PINES reception
Over the past decade, there has been a renewed interest in the potential to achieve performance enhancements via the nutritional
strategies targeting the brain and central nervous system. Intriguingly, there is evidence that simply putting nutrients into the
mouth and throat allows communication between these nutrients and the key areas of the brain, leading to alterations in brain
function that facilitate improvements in muscular outcomes. This story started with the mouth sensing effects of carbohydrate, but
has since moved to other nutrients and food chemicals. In this session, 10 experts will provide a summary of latest knowledge on
this topic.

EIM on Campus: A Recognition of
Outstanding Programs
Friday, May 29, 10:40-11:30 a.m.
Health Care is undergoing a major shift with a heightened
emphasis on chronic disease prevention and a movement
towards population health management and patient-centered
care. This change is putting a higher demand on affordable and
efficient treatment plans. Health Care providers are becoming
the champions for physical activity counseling and exercise
professionals are being positioned in a brand new way working
alongside those in the clinical setting, making them a crucial
part of treating and preventing chronic illness. This session
will be held [location, date, time] and will be facilitated by Dr.
Felipe Lobelo (Emory University).
Learn more about this change and how you can become a part
of it! 2015 is here and healthcare is changing. Are you on
board?
At the 2014 World Congress, Exercise is Medicine® on
Campus announced its new campus registration process
and global Campus Recognition Program. Through the
recognition program, campuses can be recognized for their
level of implementing the EIM Solution. At this year’s World
Congress, schools will be recognized for on-campus initiatives,
programming, working with their local communities and the
overall impact that they are having on campus wellness. This
session will be led by Robert E. Sallis, Chair of EIM Advisory
Board, and Carena S. Winters, Chair of Exercise is Medicine®
Advisory Board.
The deadline to apply to the recognition program for 2015 is
March 30, 11:59 p.m. PST. For more information on
how to register your campus and apply for recognition,
