LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
PITT OHIO has been known as a reliable, dependable
and flexible Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) carrier for over
35 years. Our focus on quality and innovation
continues to be the foundation of our organization and
these characteristics, which have defined our brand,
still hold true today.
We've always made it a priority to listen to our

marketplace needs, which encouraged us to introduce
new transportation services. In the past few years, we've developed SUPPLY
CHAIN, GROUND, and TRUCKLOAD services, which have allowed us to stay

I am excited about the sustainability efforts PITT OHIO is making focused around
“People, Planet, and Profit.” While some may be surprised to see a transportation
provider taking a leading role in sustainability, we understand the impact our
business has on our economy and on our environment. At PITT OHIO, being
sustainable means taking into consideration everything that we as a company

HISTORY OF PITT OHIO
1979
1994
2005
PITT OHIO EXPRESS
DIRECT LTL
ECM TRANSPORT
Chuck and his two brothers, Bob and Ken,
bought 3 trucks and leased a small
one-door warehouse in East Liverpool,
Ohio. In 1979, they began moving freight
between Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and
Ohio – thus naming their business
PITT OHIO EXPRESS.
In the mid to late 90's, PITT OHIO updated
its logo and opened five more terminals
throughout Ohio, Pennsylvania and
Virginia. Through voluntary employee
contribution, PITT OHIO EXPRESS made its
first check presentation to The
Make-A-Wish Foundation.
By acquiring a partnership interest in
ECM TRANSPORT, LLC in 2005,
PITT OHIO EXPRESS launched a
TRUCKLOAD service which includes 300
tractors and 1200 trailers.
Between 1979 and 1983, the company
opened terminals in Cleveland, Ohio,
Baltimore, Maryland, Norristown,
Pennsylvania and Charleston, West Virginia.
1999 was a big year for PITT OHIO
EXPRESS. The company launched its first
website and celebrated its 20th
Anniversary by opening a new corporate
office headquarters in the Strip District
area of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
1984
In 2006, PITT OHIO EXPRESS expanded
its coverage again to include the Greater
Triad Cities of North Carolina including
Winston-Salem, Greensboro and High
Point. In the same year, PITT OHIO
expanded its coverage area further west
by opening terminals in Indianapolis,
Indiana and Battle Creek, Michigan.
Over the next 10 years, 6 more terminals
opened in Maryland, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
The company built their business on
providing outstanding service to customers
along with stretching next day lanes farther
than any other carrier in the LTL industry.
THE START OF A FAMILY TRADITION
At PITT OHIO, our core values and business practices have been
passed down from generation to generation. Charles Senior was
the first in the Hammel family to start in the transportation industry
opening Hammel's Express in 1919 with a horse, a buggy and one
customer. In the 1940's his son, Charles Hammel, Jr., continued in
the family business, which became the foundation from which
Charles (Chuck) Hammel, III began to learn and love the
transportation industry.
With deregulation of the transportation industry, Charles Junior's
vision to provide next-day service to his customers between states
was realized when he provided the guidance and funding for his
sons to start their own business.

1999
FAST TRACK
PITT OHIO EXPRESS became the first regional carrier to offer an
expedited service, which the company named Fast Track. For the first
time, PITT OHIO EXPRESS participated in the Walk For Autism in
Pittsburgh, PA and added Autism Speaks as a corporate charity.
In 2000, PITT OHIO EXPRESS added the tag phrase "We're Always
There For You!" and opened an additional four terminals.
From 2001 to 2003 PITT OHIO EXPRESS offered service to Detroit, MI
for the first time, began shipping to the southern United States
through a partnership with Averitt Express, and expanded its
coverage area and a opened a terminal in Chicago, IL. The company
participated in The Great PA Clean Up and eventually expanded this
beautification effort to all of its 21 terminals.

THE ENTERPRISE
PITT OHIO EXPRESS continued
expanding its coverage area in 2007 by
forming The Reliance Network, which
spans all of North America. Expanded
coverage to New York City was also
launched with Sunline Express.
In 2010, PITT OHIO EXPRESS responded
again to our customer's need for a more
flexible small package solution and
began offering a GROUND service.
In addition to expanding beyond the days
when deliveries were made between only
Pittsburgh and Ohio, PITT OHIO has
expanded its service offerings over the
past 35 years. PITT OHIO EXPRESS is no
longer "just" an LTL (or trucking) company.
In 2011, PITT OHIO EXPRESS changed its
name to PITT OHIO to better reflect the
transportation solutions provider it has
evolved to. A new logo and website were
launched. PITT OHIO maintains its
signature commitment of "We're Always
There For You!" and our core services SUPPLY CHAIN, GROUND, LTL and
TRUCKLOAD serve as the company's
foundation. PITT OHIO received its 5th
President’s Trophy presented by the
American Trucking Association (ATA)
recognizing carriers with the most
comprehensive safety program.
In a commitment to our employees’
health, PITT OHIO launched a wellness
program encouraging employees and
their families to Eat Right, Be Fit and
Live Well.
PITT OHIO EXPRESS expanded its
fundraising efforts to include all 21
terminals and added The Boys & Girls
Clubs of America as a fifth beneficiary.
Improvements were also made to The
Reliance Network with the addition of
two new carriers covering the Western
United States.
The company received its 16th Quest for
Quality Award for its LTL service and its
expedited service, FAST TRACK, received
its 6th Award, ranking first among six
other national carriers.

SOLUTIONS PROVIDER
PITT OHIO EXPRESS responded to our customer's need for a
Protect From Freezing service and introduced Heat Track in
2008 and improved service standards to Louisville, Kentucky
with The Reliance Network in 2009. The company also
released mobile web and applications in 2009 allowing
customers to access PITT OHIO Anytime, Anywhere.
Additionally in 2009, PITT OHIO began connecting with its
customers and employees via Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
Over the past 10 years, PITT OHIO has laid the foundation necessary
for a comprehensive sustainability program. The company has
elected to focus on “People, Planet, and Profit,” and is committed to
lowering our environmental impact, finding efficient transportation
solutions for our customers, being a good corporate and
community citizen, and supporting our employees.
PITT OHIO received the Quest for Quality award for the 19th time in
the LTL category, for the 9th time in the expedited category and for
the first time in the truckload category. Bringing PITT OHIO’s overall

customers. At PITT OHIO, "We're Always Thinking Green!" as well. By actively trying to reduce our carbon footprint on the road
and at our facilities, we are on the forefront in preserving our environment.
PITT OHIO is committed to improving the environmental performance of our operations in an effort to sustain a healthy
planet. We treat our business practices with an environmentally conscious approach.
PITT OHIO works every day to reduce our Carbon Footprint by improving vehicle practices and retro fitting our facilities. It is
our goal to promote the construction and maintenance of buildings that are environmentally responsible, efficient and
healthy places to work. PITT OHIO reduced its normalized carbon output by 1.4% over 2012 levels through improved fleet MPG
and reducing our electricity by almost half a percent.

CARBON CALCULATOR
PITT OHIO is able to evaluate carbon emission for our LTL
customers’ shipments based on density, distance and fuel
utilization by measuring greenhouse gas emissions at the
shipment detail level.
EARTH DAY
For over 9 years, PITT OHIO has participated in the Keep
America Beautiful campaign, organizing litter clean ups
and other beautification projects at our facilities and
the communities that surround our terminals.

CSA IS DESIGNED TO
MAKE THE ROADS SAFER
Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) is a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)
initiative to improve large truck and bus safety and ultimately reduce commercial motor vehicle
(CMV) related crashes by targeting unsafe operations.
CSA will use a comprehensive BASIC method to identify specific carrier and driver safety
performance issues. The BASIC safety performance categories are: Unsafe Driving, Fatigued
Driving (Hours-of-Service), Driver Fitness, Controlled Substance/Alcohol, Vehicle Maintenance,
Cargo-Related and Crash History.
