South Range Local Schools K-12 Newsletter December 2014
South Range Local Schools K-12 Newsletter December 2014 Inside this issue: Elementary School 2 Middle School 4 High School 9 K-12 13 …. a school family serving children and those who love them P.T.O. Auction Principal’s Message On November 7, 2014, our Elementary PTO had its 33 rd As we enter the month of December and begin items auctioned off that night. Also, during the auction the holiday season, let us all remember to try and show compassion for one another. We must try to be compassionate when someone is in need of our help. The great thing about showing compassion is that anyone can do it. It comes from the heart and hopefully causes us to make a decision that will lead to action. For our students, compassion can be helping a friend tie a shoe on the playground, or helping a classmate with their annual auction in our cafeteria. There were over 130 people had the opportunity to buy tickets for gift baskets, a 50/50 raffle, money tree and food. The night is always a huge success due to the PTO parents who organize the night, all of our volunteers and the community members who support us. The auction is A LOT of hard work and I would like to say “Thank-You” to everyone who helped out. Your time and effort is greatly appreciated by everyone at South Range Elementary!!!!! homework. Compassion can be big or small. It can be as small as holding someone’s hand when they’ve fallen and scraped a knee, or it can be as Fourth Grade Leaders big as helping others to change the world. Here at South Range Elementary, I am thankful for our wonderful staff and students who make our school special. I am also thankful for our parents and community who support our efforts as we work together for continued success. I am proud to be part of such a wonderful school that is full of loving, compassionate people. I hope all of you can find a way to do something to help others, and I wish you all a safe and special holiday season. At the beginning of each school year, our fourth grade students have the opportunity to be the leader of their classroom. The students must give a speech in front of their classmates explaining the qualities they have that make them good leaders. The students then vote for one boy and one girl to be their classroom leaders. These students meet with Mr. Matos and Mrs. Hvizdos throughout the year to discuss different leadership ideas and service projects for our school. Currently, our fourth grade leaders are writing and saying the morning announcements each week and preparing for a Sincerely, Steve Matos Principal holiday project. Our hope is to help our school and community in any way possible. Our fourth grade leaders this year are: Emmett Bailey, Ryan Hvisdak, Amanda Hvizdos, Abbey McCabe, Gianna Pasquale, Sophia Rankin, Nick Vuletich and Jackson Yeagley. 2 Calendar of Events December 1 Classes resume from Thanksgiving break. 2 Market Day orders due in the elementary office today. 8-12 Interim Reports will be sent home this week. 9 P.T.O. meeting in the media center at 7:00 p.m. 10 Market Day pick-up in the cafeteria from 2:00-3:00 p.m. 15 Board of Education meeting tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the high school band room. 18 Third grade Christmas program today. Library News - Reading Counts We get downloads of quizzes from Scholastic on a monthly basis; therefore, keeping a current database on the Media Center website is very difficult. The following websites may be helpful. http://src.scholastic.com/ Parents or students may visit this site to look up a book title to see if there is a Reading Counts quiz. http://www.lexile.com/ This site will allow you to search for books in a Lexile range. Finding books on these sites does not guarantee that the Media Center has a copy of the book, but this will be helpful for books that students may be interested in from the Public Library. You can locate the Media Center page from the South Range School District website: http://www.southrange.k12.oh.us Look under the “Parents/Students” tab to find the Media Center. Use the “Online Public Access Catalog” link if you are searching for a book in our Media Center. Select “CAT Jr” for Elementary or “CAT” for MS/HS. Use the “Reading Programs” search to find a book in your child’s Lexile. By selecting “Lexile Score Search,” the student is prompted to put in their Lexile range, which is 100 below-100 above their number. This will generate a list of books that our Media Center has in their Lexile. Please email me at any time with questions: rpluchinsky@southrange.org. Happy Reading, Mrs. Pluchinsky 13 YOU’D BETTER WATCH OUT. YOU’D BETTER NOT CRY. YOU’D BETTER NOT POUT. I’M TELLING YOU WHY… SANTA’S WORKSHOP IS COMING TO TOWN!!
