Preserving a part of the Past
We are looking for a 13'- 15'. Doesn't have
to have a bathroom, although my wife might
say otherwise. Don't know if vintage trailers
have 110 hookup or not.
Would prefer if it did. Also, would prefer a
refer instead of ice box. Water tank, stove,
oven (maybe). Low profile. Decent tires and
clear title. This is our "A" list.

Parts Wanted
I just purchased my first camper- a ‘69
Nomad that has only the shower left
original. Actually it is an empty slate. The
po tore everything out and had redone the
walls and ceiling, but had not started to
reconstruct the inside. I will have the
pleasure (headache) of designing the entire
inside from scratch! I am looking for a rock
guard for the front window. This window is
63” x 23“. I know we can make one, but it
would be nice to have a "real" one.

Name: Ralph & Sherry Hall
Trailer: 1953 Terry Rambler
Tow Vehicle: Evolving, currently 1989
Ford F-250 Super Cab
Both grew up in the Corvallis, Oregon
area - Ralph in Philomath & Sherry in
Corvallis and the Blodgett area, went to
high school together, were good friends,
but never dated
each other. Fast forward 12 years later:
both found themselves living in Salem
and "unattached." Ralph ran across a
10 Year Philomath High School Class
Reunion brochure (which neither had
attended) & found Sherry's phone
number & gave her a call .. . 2 1/2
weeks later they were engaged & will
have been married 22 years in March
2011.
Ralph is a pharmacist, employed at
Fred Meyer for almost 25 years, the last
15 or so as the manager of the store on
Lancaster & Market in Salem. He's a
skilled homebrewer & loves hiking &
biking. Sherry is a homemaker with an
Education degree, loves her daily walks,
is a movie buff & they both love
traveling around the world & they have
one son, Travis, who's currently
attending Chemeketa with an eye to
transferring to OSU in 2
years for a degree in Computer
Science.
Ralph & Sherry had never really
considered buying a vintage trailer, until
one found them. In about 1995, on
Sherry's urging, Ralph, his father &
Travis (about age 6) began
taking a yearly "male bonding" trip every
summer - it was quite a rough & tumble
free for- all! 3 guys, $100 worth of weird
food (instant "Red Eye Gravy" flavor
grits, anyone?
"Champ," what's "Champ?" It's
processed meat product, not quite
"Spam," but a step above generic!) from
Grocery Outlet, no showers (unless
there was a hot springs on the itinerary)
& to start with, a pop-up tent trailer.
About 2 years into the process, "Dad"
decided they needed a proper domicile
and purchased a 1953 Terry Rambler
canned ham travel trailer out of a cow
pasture which had been sitting under an
oak tree for 20 years & had about a foot
and 1/2 of "oak mold" on top of it for the
exorbitant price of $100. He
set to work "civilizing" the Tiny Terry,
including painting some nifty, sporty
stripes on the sides, rewiring it and
making it comfortable. The boys
enjoyed several years dragging it
behind a 1994 Ford Explorer (with "C.G.
Hall Trucking" emblazoned on the
doors) on Forest Service & logging
roads, up lonely bluffs and to the edge
of the cliffs over the Snake River. The
old Terry never let them down, providing
aid & comfort (but not always SO
comfortable on those 100+ degree days
in the Stein's Mountains!). When Dad's
health became such he could no longer
manage the yearly Male Bonding
outings, he parked the Terry in an
enclosed storage unit for 6 or 7 years
until he decided he wanted to clear the
unit out and asked, "Ralph, would you
like...."
Ralph had the truck, trailer hitch at the
ready, parked in front of the storage unit
before Dad could finish his question.
Ralph, Sherry & Travis decided to "rehab" the Tiny Terry, but decided not to
alter too much the basic "atmosphere."
They put in a new vinyl tile floor (the sub
floor was solid), got a new tabletop,
installed an awning, had the upholstery
done & just basically cleaned the trailer
up & made sure it was roadworthy. They
have plans to shine up the exterior,
basically maintain the beast & have lots
of fun taking trips to vintage trailer
rallies, something that never would have
occurred to them until the Tiny Terry
decided it needed to be owned & used
by them. Sherry is not a true "camper,"
having spent most of her youthful
vacations camping & vowing not to do
THAT again, but ROVT provides many
opportunities to network with other
vintage trailer owners & make new
friends during various rallies adjacent to
the modern conveniences (water!
electricity! showers!) that make camping
easier & much less primitive. Ralph &
Sherry's Tiny Terry made its ROVT
debut in October at Beverly Beach &
there are plans to take it out for several
events this coming year.
Thank you Ralph & Sherry for
sharing your vintage trailer life with
us! Ralph & Sherry are now part of
the team helping host our River Bend
Rally for 2012! Thanks guys!
“Feature Member” section in our newsletter!
I will turn it into a feature story context and
also pass it along to Diana to publish on our
web site. I thank you in advance! Jerry
