THE 2016 EDITION
Some of the sports events have a unique flavour. The Jumping of La Baule belongs to this exceptional category.
Second leg of the European 1st Division of the world circuit of the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup, and 2nd leg of the national circuit FFE
French Tour, the Longines Jumping International of La Baule, also known as "Officiel de France", is to horse riding what Roland
Garros is to tennis, what the Six Nations Championship is to Rugby, or what the Tour de France is to cycling.
If on each Olympic year the international jumping competitions 5 stars (CSI 5*) are given special attention, those which carry the
“O” label (CSIO 5*) are even of greater importance. A “O” added for Official, a “O” that almost resonates like “Olympic”.
Only 19 in number around the world, the CSIO 5* remind that only this format of competition is similar to the Olympic Games.
From 12 to 15 May, La Baule holds the unique CSIO 5* de France, and the only 5 star competition of the Pentecost week end. Before
all eyes turn towards Brazil, three months away from the beginning of the Equestrian Events of the Rio Olympic Games, it is actually in Loire Atlantique that the show jumping enthusiasts will smell this Olympic perfume... with the best riders and horses on the
starting list, and many highlights during the show.

CSIO 5* DE FRANCE, THE HIGHLIGHTS
FURUSIYYA FEI NATIONS CUP PRESENTED BY LONGINES
Friday 14 May at 2pm, team class, two rounds, 1m60, broadcasted (available on Eurovision)
The Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup presented by Longines will look like a rehearsal of the Olympics. 95 days away from the equivalent
competition in Rio, the 8 nations present in La Baule fully intend to make a mark on everyone's minds and take an advantage before the eyes of the national coaches, looking at building their ideal team
PRESENTATION OF THE TEAMS
France wants to impulse the Olympic spirit
Each year, the French team sets its mind on shining in "its" Nations Cup. Winners in 2014, the "Blue", vice team world champions in
2014 have a chance to perform on home ground before Rio, where they intend to put an end to their 20-year Olympic drought in show
jumping. With riders like Simon Delestre, Pénélope Leprevost, Patrice Delaveau, Kevin Staut, Jérôme Hurel…, the national coach
Philippe Guerdat has a team with great potential.
Germany, the everlasting evidence
The presence of a German team on a showground is a guarantee to watch excellence. The Mannschaft, record holder of the team Olympic
titles (8 since 1912) guided today by Otto Becker, collects successes all over the world. La Baule offers guarantee to see some of the main
German gold-seekers Christian Ahlmann, Marcus Ehning, Ludger Beerbaum, Daniel Deusser, Hans-Dieter Dreher... a team to place among
the favourites in La Baule, but also in three months in Rio.
5
CSIO 5* DE FRANCE, THE HIGHLIGHTS
Belgium out of the Games
Unlike the other nations present in La Baule, Belgium could not clinch its team ticket for the Olympics. The individual quotas should allow
one or two representatives to go to Rio. Therefore, the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup becomes the priority of the team led by Dirk
Demeersman. Winner last September of the world final in Barcelona, the "Red Devils" present a fantastic combination of experienced
champions and performing young riders. 4 years after its last success in La Baule, Belgium is the only nation to compete without Olympic
pressure.
Brazil and its Olympic dreams
Conducted by the American George Morris, the Brazilian "Seleçao" has been preparing for its Olympic Games for many years. Bronze
medallists at the 1996 and 2000 Olympics, this time the South American dream of clinching gold on home ground. The La Baule leg
has to be a launching ramp for them. Behind its traditional leaders, Alvaro Affonso de Miranda Neto and Rodrigo Pessoa (2004 Olympic
champion), a young generation has bloomed. Pedro Veniss, Marlon Modolo Zanotelli and Eduardo Menezes are the best examples.
Great Britain, a title to defend
Olympic champion in 2012, Great Britain is one of the main nations in show jumping. While the Brits were already lucky in the
Longines Grand Prix of the City of La Baule (Nick Skelton / Carlo, winners in 2012), they missed the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup for a
long time until last year. If the Whitaker family still form the backbone of the British team, Captain Di Lampard showed for several
months that her reservoir is particularly dense and of a high quality.
Netherlands, the collective strength
With its individual world champion, Jeroen Dubbeldam (also 2015 European champion and 2000 Olympic champion) the Dutch proved over the past few years they were always there in major occasions. Team world champions in 2014, European champions last year,
and winners of the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup in 2014 in Barcelona (3rd in 2015), the Netherlands clearly has a solid group. Although
they are not necessarily at the top of the world ranking, the Dutch often showed that horse riding could also be a collective sport.
Switzerland willing to write a beautiful fairytale
Third in the European championships last year, Switzerland has taken its place among the great nations of show jumping for a long
time. Behind Steve Guerdat, its leader and Olympic champion, the Swiss team has serious assets like the experienced Paul
Estermann or Pius Schwizer. The Swiss, who did not win in La Baule since 2009, can also rely on performing riders like Romain
Duguet, Janika Sprunger or the young Martin Fuchs. Bronze medallist in the 2008 Olympics, Switzerland, who never won the team
gold, could fulfill its dreams this summer.
Americans land in Loire-Atlantique
In their European tour, USA traditionally presents a very competitive team, mainly composed of a subtle combination of experienced riders, already qualified and medallists at the highest level (Laura Kraut, Beezie Madden...) together with the innocence of
young talents. Olympic champions in 2000 and 2004, USA appear like the main opponent of the European nations.

CSIO 5* DE FRANCE, THE HIGHLIGHTS
DERBY OF THE PAYS DE LA LOIRE REGION
Saturday 14 May at 1pm, Table A class against the clock, without jump off, 1m45, broadcasted (available on Eurovision)
The Derby of Pays de la Loire Region is far from being a jumping competition like any other. Second highlight of the week-end, it is
a unique competition, since it is the one and only Derby to take place during a CSIO 5* in the world.
For almost 3 minutes, riders and horses must complete a 1100 meters long course, with 21 jumps, combining traditional and natural fences (hedges, gates, barriers, mounds, water jumps...) which represent 9 more fences and 600 extra meters compare to a regular course.
Janou Lefèbvre is the only female rider who won the mythical Derby of La Baule three times (1963, 1969, 1971). In 1971, associated to Rocket, she clinched victory not only in the Derby but also in the Grand Prix that she won 4 times (1962, 1971, 1974, 1975).
For almost 53 years, like Janou Lefèbvre, only the biggest names of world show jumping managed to win this spectacular class.
7
CSIO 5* DE FRANCE, THE HIGHLIGHTS
LONGINES GRAND PRIX OF THE CITY OF LA BAULE
Sunday 15 May at 1pm, Table A class with jump off against the clock, 1m60, broadcasted (available on Eurovision)
In any discipline, main events only crown the biggest champions. The Longines Grand Prix of the City of La Baule is certainly one of
those.
Olympic champions like Éric Lamaze and Pierre Durand, world champions like Jos Lansink, Franke Sloothaack and Éric Navet…all of
them entered their name in the record of the Grand Prix of the Officiel de France.
Legendary horses like Hickstead, Orient Express HDC, Rochet M, Carlo 273, Noltes Küchengirl, Jappeloup, Rocket or Quito de Baussy
have left their mark on equestrian sports by winning this class keenly contested by the best horses in the world.
For more than half a century, a new page of the discipline is written in La Baule, in front of packed grandstands, where the public
holds its breath until the last second. This year again, only 3 months away from the Olympics, only one pair will achieve the highly
coveted exploit. Only one will have the honour of seeing his name engraved forever on the marble plate of the François André stadium.

NOT TO BE MISSED
CSI 1*, FIRST STEPS TO HIGH LEVEL
Be able to share the same show ground as the best riders in the world, warm up
before the eyes of those who shine every week in the most prestigious competitions
of the planet, these are some of the unique moments that the riders who enter the
CSI 1* of La Baule will experience. A CSI1* that has everything of a big moment of
sport. With 50 experienced riders on the starting list of 8 classes, this competition
runs in full swing every year in front of an enthusiastic public.
If the 12 of May will be a kind of "warm up" for the competitors, serious matters will
begin as early as Friday 13 of May. Like the riders of the CSIO 5* de France, the pairs
will take part in a mini Derby (Saturday 14 May), supported by Le Sabotier brand,
then will end the competition with the Shanti Travel Grand Prix (Saturday 15 May),
a perfect conclusion to this week end in La Baule.
Among the VIPs in competition, Guillaume Canet, Julien Courbet and his daughter
Lola, Cassandra Foret, and for the first time this year Benjamin Castaldi.
CSI U25, TALENTS IN THE MAKING
The French Equestrian Federation chose the Officiel de France to launch its new sportive
project reserved to jumping riders aged 18 to 25 : the FFE Top Young Talents AC Print.
The 10 most promising French riders and the 10 best international up-and-coming will
compete in 3 new classes.
Jean Baptiste Gallen, CEO of AC Print, partner of the circuit:
"Around fifteen years ago, we bought our first horse to go hacking, but he finally
competed in CSI 2*". Passionate about horses, he created a communication agency
specialised in equestrian sports, Equicom. After meeting Sophie Dubourg, FFE technical director, late 2015, Jean-Baptiste Gallen decides to join the new sportive federal project. "My motivation is to contribute to reveal these new talents who stand at
the doors of the highest level. Besides, it is also a way to highlight other talents, not
involved in sports, like the teams who make the reputation of my company."
Owner, his horses are currently ridden by the French Guillaume Foutrier. "Guillaume
is also a rider in the making, his horses should compete next year in CSI 3* or 4*."

THE SHOW FAVOURITES
IN FAVOUR OF THE FRENCH CHARITY "SECOURS POPULAIRE"
Created in 1945, the "Secours Populaire (SPF) is a non profit organisation, state-approved, that has
been declared great national cause. The target of the association is to fight poverty and exclusion in
France, and in the world, and to promote solidarity and its values. In France, the Secours Populaire
Français pays close attention to exclusion problems. On a short-term basis, it provides emergency solidarity based on dialogue, food and clothing; emergency lodging and orientation towards a welfare
structure remain at the heart of its preoccupations.
On a long-term basis, the SPF supports individuals and families in their procedures and rights (access to lodging, health, holidays,
culture and leisure, sport, professional integration.
On Saturday 14 May, the Longines International Jumping of La Baule will welcome about thirty children from the French Secours
Populaire, and invite them to discover the backstage of the competition and its actors.

FOR JUSTWORLD INTERNATIONAL
Created in 2003 by the international rider Jessica Newman, JustWorld International is an NGO supporting the
most helpless kids. In Europe, the association mobilises more than 100 volunteers and 30 ambassadors in show
jumping, eventing, dressage, racing and polo.
With the support of local organizations, JustWorld International accompanies various programs in education,
professional training, nutrition, health and hygiene to benefit the underprivileged kids in Cambodia, Guatemala,
Honduras and Colombia.
During the 4 days of the Longines International Jumping of La Baule, the hostesses of JustWorld International welcome the public
and offer the complete program of the competition for sale. All proceeds will benefit the association. Each program allows to participate to a lucky draw to win VIP seats or to walk the course with one of the JustWorld International ambassadors... Please note
the implementation of the operation "Longines clear the Jump". The idea is : every time a rider clears the Longines fence, the watchmaker offers the equivalent of 200 meals to the kids involved in the different programs.
