(FEI/Dirk Caremans) 2 CSIO5* Rotterdam (NED) 19 June 2015 #SupportYourNation Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Jumping 2015 – sport at its finest By Louise Parkes The third season of the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Jumping series is filled with so much promise. This sport, enjoyed by participants and public alike for over a century, has been transformed since Furusiyya first injected its support and enthusiasm two years ago, encouraging development and expansion on a grand scale. That was exactly what was needed in order to ensure it grasped the mantle of modernisation while maintaining the tradition and dignity for which it has always been admired. When Nations Cup competitions first took place early in the last century, the teams were filled with military men, and only a limited number of countries took part in the battle for the title of supreme Jumping nation in the world. Horses played a major role in everyday life in those days and were, therefore, a familiar sight. Urbanisation has changed all that however and the world is a very different place today. But the love of the most magnificent of creatures lingers on, and in cities and towns right across the globe once again this season, crowds will flock to see their own riders compete against visiting sides partnering the finest steeds in the land. Horsemanship and sportsmanship of the highest calibre will be displayed, realising the concept of the term “Furusiyya” which embraces equestrian expertise along with purity, nobility and chivalry. The first leg of the 2015 Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ season took place at a new venue in Ocala, USA in February and was the first qualifier for the North American region. That was followed by the single leg in the Middle East at Abu Dhabi, UAE before the action crossed back to Coapexpan in Mexico for the second round of the North American series in April. The month of May saw Europe come alive, with a calendar of 16 events beginning at Lummen in Belgium and accommodating two levels of competition. One of the most exciting aspects of the new-look FEI Nations Cup™ is the potential for development it provides. Significant numbers of previously unknown horse-and-rider combinations have emerged to show their potential during the past two seasons and a whole new range of countries have raised their game and seriously challenged the long-time elite. A year ahead of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games the Furusiyya series will provide the perfect stage for talent-spotting and testing of ability, but the country they will all be keen to beat will be The Netherlands. Crowned new world champions just two months earlier, the Dutch team proved unbeatable once again at the 2014 Final in Barcelona, Spain last October and the question this season is whether their victory-roll will continue. The Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Jumping series however is not all about the winners. It is about all the men, women and courageous horses who carry the hopes and dreams of their country onto the field of play with great passion and pride. It is, quite simply, about sport at its finest, and we can expect plenty of memorable moments on the road to the 2015 Final which will again return to Spain. 4 CSIO5* Rotterdam (NED) 19 June 2015 #SupportYourNation Presentation of Furusiyya For centuries, the ancient term Furusiyya (Arabic: )هيسورفhas embraced the idea of horsemanship and equestrian knowledge, and now this same sense of purity, nobility and chivalry has been brought to the FEI Nations Cup™ – the Show Jumping’s leading team competition. The term is a derivation of faris, or horseman, and faras, a horse. Reflecting a huge growth in popularity for the sport around the world, the new structure of the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Jumping embraces more countries than ever before, who will compete head to head in a competition which pits the traditional powerhouses of the sport against teams from developing nations. Furusiyya is immensely proud to be the title sponsor of the FEI Nations Cup™ Jumping until 2017, and to be the catalyst for the international expansion of this great equestrian competition. During the inaugural 2013 season, no less than 37 nations competed for 18 places at the Final, which will was staged to great success in Barcelona (ESP) at the end of September. The first Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Jumping Final featured teams representing countries from around the world and was a true reflection of the popularity of the Jumping sport on the global stage. But 2013 was only the start. The Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Jumping has been created to make the sport more accessible to all nations, and Furusiyya believes that the competition will lead to more countries than ever before wanting to compete against the best in years to come. This will see an increase in the number of Nations Cup shows being staged around the world and ultimately, higher standards of competition across all levels. So, we at Furusiyya wish all the horse and rider combinations the best of luck today, and let’s all enjoy the start of a new era and look forward to some top class international team Jumping throughout the 2015 season. 5 CSIO5* Rotterdam (NED) 19 June 2015 #SupportYourNation Photo Caption: Riders from around the globe in Barcelona for the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Jumping Final 2014 draw inspiration from the iconic Piscina Municipal de Montjuic, home of the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Diving Finals. The North and Central America & Caribbean Region has two qualifiers. The season opens at Ocala (USA), with the CSIO4* running from 10-15 February. The Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Jumping Final will once again be held at the Real Club de Polo of Barcelona (ESP), venue for the equestrian events at the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992. The detailed calendar of the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Jumping 2015 is available on p. 11 of this press kit. The nations Qualifying events for all regions will be run under the traditional two-round Nations Cup formula. To be eligible to participate in qualifying events for the Final, all nations must have a minimum of four riders in the Longines Rankings at the end of October the previous year. For regions without qualifying events, the Longines Rankings will be used to determine the teams that will qualify for the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Jumping Final. National Federations participating in the series must compete at their home event, if applicable. The second round at each qualifying event is restricted to the top eight teams, with all four athletes competing. National Federations competing in Division 1 and 2 can earn points at 50% of the events in their respective Division and must declare at which events they would like to participate for points by 1 February of that year. For regions where there are fewer than four qualifying events, all events count for points. National Federations may participate at events outside their region if invited, but may not earn points at these events. The nations declared for the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Jumping 2015 are listed on p. 12 of this press kit. 8 CSIO5* Rotterdam (NED) 19 June 2015 #SupportYourNation Points system The following points system will be used for all qualifying competitions: 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th 9th 10th 100 90 80 70 60 55 50 45 40 35 For Division 1, qualifying points for the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Jumping are distributed based on each team’s classification in the competition. For Division 2 and other Regions, qualifying points are based on each eligible team’s classification among the teams from the respective Region or Division in the competition, meaning that an eligible team placed eighth in the competition obtains the points for seventh place if the seventh placed team is from outside the Region or Division. The Final The Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Jumping Final 2015 has been allocated to Barcelona (ESP) and will take place from 24-27 September. The FEI Nations Cup™ Final will consist of three competitions, with all qualified teams starting in the first of these. This one-round competition, not against the clock, will decide the top eight teams that go through to the third and final competition. Teams placed ninth and lower will compete in the Challenge Cup (competition 2). The eight teams that advance to the third competition, which decides the outright winner of the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Jumping Final, start on zero penalties. Four riders in each team compete in the first round, with a jump-off against the clock in the event of teams tied for first place after this round. Only three riders per team go through to the jump-off, with no drop score, guaranteeing a thrilling finish to the series. The complete rules of the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Jumping 2015 are available on the FEI website HERE. 9 CSIO5* Rotterdam (NED) 19 June 2015 #SupportYourNation The calendar EUROPE DIVISION 1 Level Venue NF Start of show End of show CSIO5* Lummen BEL 29 April 3 May CSIO5* La Baule FRA 14 May 17 May CSIO5* Rome ITA 21 May 24 May CSIO5* St. Gallen SUI 4 June 7 June CSIO5* Rotterdam NED 17 June 21 June CSIO5* Falsterbo SWE 09 July 12 July CSIO5* Hickstead GBR 30 July 2 August CSIO5* Dublin IRL 5 August 9 August Competition date Friday, 1 May 16.00 CEST (TBC) Friday, 15 May TBC Friday, 22 May TBC Friday, 5 June TBC Friday, 19 June TBC Friday, 11 July 14.30 BST (TBC) Friday, 31 July 14.15 GMT (TBC) Friday, 8 August 15.00 IST (TBC) EUROPE DIVISION 2 CSIO4* Linz-Ebelsberg AUT 7 May 10 May CSIO3* Odense DEN 14 May 17 May CSIO3* Lisbon POR 28 May 31 May CSIO3* Sopot POL 4 June 7 June CSIO3* Budapest HUN 16 July 19 July CSIO3* Bratislava SVK 23 July 26 July CSIO5* Gijon ESP 26 August 31 August CSIO3* Arezzo SMR 2 September 6 September Friday, 8 May 16.00 CEST (TBC) Friday, 15 May TBC Friday, 27 May TBC Friday, 5 June TBC Friday, 17 July TBC Friday, 24 July TBC Friday, 28 August TBC Friday, 4 September TBC NORTH AMERICA, CENTRAL AMERICA & CARIBBEAN CSIO4* Ocala USA 10 February 15 February CSIO4* Coapexpan MEX 23 April 26 April UAE 18 February 21 February Friday, 13 Feb, 13.00 EST Friday, 24 April 11.00 CDT MIDDLE EAST CSIO5* Abu Dhabi Thursday, 19 Feb, 16.00 MDT FINAL, CSIO 5* Barcelona (ESP), 24-27 September 10 CSIO5* Rotterdam (NED) 19 June 2015 #SupportYourNation The teams Photo caption: Participating nations The list of nations declared for the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Jumping series 2015 is as follows: Europe Division 1: Belgium, France, Great Britain, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, The Netherlands Europe Division 2: Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Turkey, Ukraine North and Central America: South America: Canada, El Salvador, Mexico, United States of America Africa: Egypt, Morocco Asia/Australia: Australia, Hong Kong, Japan Middle East: Jordan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Qatar, United Arab Emirates Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela 11 CSIO5* Rotterdam (NED) 19 June 2015 #SupportYourNation Allocation of teams to Europe Division 1 events T E A M Lummen 5* BEL La Baule 5* FRA Rome 5* ITA 29 April3 May 14-17 May 21-24 May * NED SWE * FRA * Rotterdam 5* NED Falsterbo 5* SWE Hickstead 5* GBR Dublin 5* IRL 17-21 June 9-12 July 30 July2 August 5-9 August * * * * * * * GER BEL * St. Gallen 5* SUI 04-07 June * * * * * * * * * ITA * * * * * * * * * * Allocation of teams to Europe Division 2 events * Linz 4* (AUT) Odense 3* (DEN) Lisbon 3* (POR) Sopot 3* (POL) Budapest Bratislava 3* (SVK) Gijon 5* (ESP) Arezzo 3* (SMR) 7-10 May 14-17 May 28-31 May 4-7 June 16-19 July 23-26 July 26-31 August 02-06 September * 3* (HUN) * * NOR * * * DEN * * * POL * * UKR * * * * T E A M * * SUI IRL * * GBR ESP * FIN * * * * * * AUT * * CZE * * * * SVK HUN * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * SLO * * GRE * * * * * * * * * * POR RUS BUL * * * * * ROU TUR * * * * The teams indicated above are the only teams that can obtain points at these events. 12 CSIO5* Rotterdam (NED) 19 June 2015 #SupportYourNation The Athletes – CSIO5* Rotterdam (NED) Click here to view the athletes’ biographies Four (4) riders from each team will participate in the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Jumping at Rotterdam (NED).
