Welcome to Bolton Wanderers Institute of Sport’s (BWFCIOS),
prestigious International Football Studies Programme.
Bolton Wanderers have a long association with education and over the last few years, we have
established BWFCIOS as an independent school dedicated to delivering internationally recognised
academic qualifications in professional sporting facilities. The Institute is inspected and accredited by
several highly regarded bodies including Independent Schools Inspectorate, Pearson Edexcel and
International Baccalaureate. We have a 100% academic pass rate and we are proud of our reputation
and success over the years, which has led to widespread recognition.
Our students do not just merely enrol on our programme – they become part of the BWFC family, where
they are guided by caring, dedicated, experienced staff in a carefully supervised and supportive
environment. They are encouraged to express themselves and are challenged to fulfil their potential.
Being a small independent school allows us to focus on holistic student development based on the
premise that each person finds identity, meaning, and purpose in life through connections to the
community, to the natural world, and to humanitarian values such as compassion and peace and
to instil a passion for life and love of learning. This unique programme which is integrated across the
Club has resulted in the Institute of Sport becoming the UK’s leading Football Studies school in the UK,
combining quality education with elite football coaching.
The world is continually evolving and with it the employment opportunities and ethical issues our learners
will encounter when they graduate. Ultimately, our aim is to prepare our learners for whatever lies ahead.
To provide – as far as possible – a bespoke education that suits the individual, so that they can make the
most of their talents beyond the Institute of Sport, into University and the wider world.
Our prospectus has hopefully given you an insight into the unique programme we offer, however to
fully appreciate the spectrum of opportunities available to our learners, we hope you will come and
visit us when I look forward to meeting you personally.

through a comprehensive coaching cycle, which is
in line with the club’s coaching philosophy. Planning

player development (Technical/Tactical, Physical,
Social and Psychological).
Over the duration of the course, you will
understand what it takes to get to the next level
with simplistic decision making, practices and
games programmes. Based on the technical and

What are the progression pathways once I have completed
the programme?
We ensure guidance and the development of strategies for progression routes and career
pathways are a high priority. Our education and coaching staff work with you to plan a clear
pathway for life after you’ve completed your course. Whether you would like to continue your
academic studies at a higher level in a university within the UK, in your respective home country,
or in another country entirely, then we will assist you in achieving that goal. Alternatively, if you
wish to enter the workforce directly after you’ve completed your studies, we will provide career
guidance to help you achieve this.
We, the parents of Tyrone Mondi, would just
like to thank you all for the past 12 months
that Tyrone has spent there in the UK with
you. He gained experience in football and
also in education with assistance from
you all.

Will my parents be kept informed of my progress?
Your primary contacts at the Institute of Sport will be the Programme Co-ordinator and the Welfare Officer. The Welfare Officer will act as the contact
in relation to any welfare or safeguarding issues which may arise whilst on the programme, and the Programme Co-ordinator is always available
to answer any questions. Parents will also receive a newsletter from the Programme Co-ordinator each month with an update on the programme
activities, excursions, news and any other important information.
Are females accepted onto the programme?
Yes, we strongly encourage females to apply for the International Football Studies Programme.
