CALVING AT SHOW If an animal calves during the period of the Show, the instructions listed in rule 40 must be followed. 33. UNNACCEPTABLE PRACTICES BEEF Should any contrivance or device of any description (such as injection) be found or proved to have been used on any animal for any purpose, or if any other practice considered improper is performed on any animal at any time while the animal is on the Showground, the Council or its nominated representative, at its absolute discretion, shall have the power to disqualify the animal so concerned from any award or trophy at the Show and may prohibit the owner of such animal from exhibiting at future Shows. The Council reserves the right to have all animals inspected by persons nominated by them, either prior to, during, or after judging. 25 DAIRY In addition to the above practices for Beef Cattle, the following practices and/or procedures are prohibited when showing registered dairy cattle: a) misrepresenting the age or ownership of an animal; b) filling an animal’s rumen unnaturally with liquid (tubing); c) balancing the udder by any means other than by leaving naturally produced milk in any or all quarters; d) treating the udder internally with an irritant, counter-irritant, or any other substance to temporarily improve conformation or produce unnatural animation; e) treating the udder externally with an irritant, counter-irritant, or any other substance to temporarily improve conformation or produce unnatural animation. Inspection All Participants at the Show shall provide promptly to the Show Office and/or Inspectors, upon request, whatever information and produce any documents reasonably required for the proper monitoring of compliance with the Showing Rules and shall fully co-operate with any inspections. All entries to the Show and personal property of the Participants are subject to inspection by the Inspectors. Participants shall co-operate with the Inspectors, provide access to the animal and shall provide all such information as is reasonably required in connection with such inspections. Participants shall provide to an Inspector, if requested, samples of urine, milk, blood, or any other body fluids suitable for analysis. Participants shall not deliver any medication, preparation or substance to their animals, by any method whilst on site, except that administered by the Show veterinarian. The only exception being that participants can deliver medication which has been disclosed at Bio-Security, upon entry to the Showground, so that the duty vet is aware of the substance and why it is being used. Additionally Inspectors or their nominated representatives shall have the authority to perform on any animal entered in the Show any of the following: a) a milkout, collection and testing of any of the animal’s body fluids of any individual cow or cows, after the milking classes have completed; and b) the use at any time of any other technology and other inspections and/or analysis, that the Inspector considers may be useful for assessing compliance with the Showing Rules. 6. Following completion of milking cow classes the Organisers and/or Inspectors shall have the option to take milk samples from a representative group of cows, prior to milkout, from a representative number of the milking cow classes. If inspections are to be carried out, an announcement will be made prior to the judging of the milking cow classes. 34. MILKING The vacuum pump in the Dairy will be available for the use of exhibitors arriving on Thursday 9 July. However milk will be accepted for payment between the hours of 5 pm and 7 pm only. The Show being purely of an educational nature, it behoves producers of milk to ensure that the milking of cows and disposal of the milk is carried out under hygienic conditions at the Show Dairy. The following Regulations are therefore designed for the benefit of exhibitors and the public. 26 Suitable white clothing must be worn by all attendants. 1) 2) Udders and hind quarters must be in a clean condition before milking. 3) All milking must be done in the Show Dairy. In order to be of assistance to exhibitors and herdsmen the following arrangements have been made: a) All milk produced during the Show will become property of the Society and will be purchased by the Society at 20p per litre. The sale of milk by exhibitors or their herdsmen other than to the Society is strictly prohibited. b) All pails and utensils can be washed and sterilised at the Show Dairy free of charge. c) Hot water will be provided. d) To prevent contamination of milk by antibiotics, random testing of milk will be carried out by Stewards at the Show. SHEEP 35. Every animal entered for competition must be entered or certified as eligible to be entered in the Flock Book of its breed. 36. “Two-Shear” and “Shearling” determine sheep dropped in 2013 and 2014 respectively, except where individual breed societies dictate otherwise, for example - year start 1st September for Dorset Horn & Poll, year start 1st December for Zwartbles, Charollais & Hampshire Down. 37. The colouring of sheep is prohibited. Any sheep found to have been artificially coloured or otherwise faked with a view to deceiving the Judges shall be disqualified. 38. The Mutilation (Permitted Procedures) (England) Regulations 2007 Schedule 5.5 requires that sheep must have sufficient tail retained to cover the vulva of the female sheep and the anus of male sheep. Any sheep which does not comply with the aforementioned regulations will not be eligible to be judged in its class. The decision will be made at the discretion of the Society’s Chief Veterinary Officer or his representative. SHEEP & GOATS 39. Scrapie. All exhibitors of sheep and goats will be required to sign a declaration to this effect at entry stage. HEALTH & SAFETY 40. The Organisers of this Show have taken reasonable precautions to ensure the health and safety of everyone present. For these measures to be effective, everyone must take all reasonable precautions to avoid and prevent accidents occurring and must obey the instructions of the Organisers and all the Officials and Stewards. IMPORTANT NOTES FOR ALL LIVESTOCK EXHIBITORS Brucellosis Eradication Cattle which calve or show evidence of calving whilst on the Showground must be placed in the approved isolation immediately pending their possible early removal from the Showground. The animal cannot take part in the Show and once fit to travel* can be returned home. The suspect animal must be isolated during transit. When milking, udder cloths, hands or milking machine units must be suitably disinfected between each cow. Dams may suckle their own calves.
