Recent Event Concours of America at St. Johns The long weekend started early Friday morning with a Haggerty Insurance Motoring Tour of the local area, and on the way visited the Roush Automotive Collection in Livonia. Finally the group stopped in Northville at the Garage for lunch. This tour was led by our treasurer, Michael Salemi, in his wonderful 280SL. On Friday evening the “Autobahn Night” was held for the first time in the parking lot of the Inn at St. John’s. This was for German cars only and we had 141 turn up to put their cars on display for the evening. The $15 entry included food provided by the staff of the Inn at St John’s with a band playing live music in the background. The rain held off but the skies were dark and the temperature was cool. It was a very sociable evening and many new friends were made. Kip Sheward was the sponsor of the event and he brought along several super cars for display. This was an evening of fun not to be missed. We had several members of the MBCA from across the USA either driving or flying in. The backline was all Mercedes Benz vehicles except 1, a Bitter, the 3rd car from the left. Saturday was for the Ladies of MBCA with a Garden Lunch. The event, includined 67 ladies, started at 11.00a.m. and some had the chance to buy dresses, purses and jewelry before lunch at noon. We had a lovely lunch of salad with either chicken, salmon or vegetarian. At this time we had the start of a fashion show where all the daytime outfits were modeled. After coffee and desert, the second half of the fashion show was presented, modeling evening gowns and outfits. On Saturday evening we met at Karl’s Cabin for dinner in their banquet room. 36 members attended including Terry (MBCA President), Laura Simonds (MBCA VP), Jim Luikens (MBCA Secretary), Lisa Juhl (Director of Marketing), Ernie Fancy (NE Regional Director), and Cliff Reyle (Central Regional Director). We had members from Cincinnati Fort Wayne, Pittsburgh, and of course SE Michigan. We had opted for a buffet so that the service would be quicker, and they served chicken, beef, pasta, potatoes and green beans with salad to start. An ice cream sundae with hot fudge sauce rounded of the meal. Many people came up to our secretary afterwards to compliment her on the venue and the food, saying how they preferred the intimate setting to the Deadwood Grill. On Sunday morning the tent was finished early and ready for the visitors. We had a 2014 S63 loaned by MBUSA on the west side, a 1957 300SL convertible loaned by Paul Devers on the east side and off to the side a Sprinter Airstream motorhome. Before the show opened to the public. The rain stayed away most of the day and we always seemed to have visitors in our tent talking about their cars. The Most Significant Mercedes Award was given to a 300SL Gullwing. There were only 4 Mercedes Benz vehicles in the show this year, and all 4 owners were interviewed for an article in the upcoming Star magazine. Thanks to all the MBCA members who helped man the tent and chat with our club’s members. We did sign up several new members at the show and gave out information about the club to many car enthusiasts. Future Events August 15th MBUSA R&D Summer BBQ and Carshow. See attached flyer.
